Shoegaze was quite big in the late 80s - mid 90s. It's just its time has passed to open up new genres. Who knows maybe someday it will see the rebirth. At least that's what i hope for. They say the history goes spiral ;)
comparing them to their colleagues like MBV, Ride or say Catherine wheel they have never been truly on par with them (i mean looking at the overall quality of their material). Yes, they had really nice songs and all but i think the amount of limelight they had back in the day was just about right. I mean they never were truly underrated, on the contrary they were rated quite adequately if you look at the press.
What you say is 100% correct. The Pale Saints nevergot the kudos either! Problem was the industry ran with bloody Radiohead, who were basically Pearl Jam wannabes with a bit of shoegaze glitter.

I remember them playing with Chapterhouse at the Tiv in Buckley, and thought what a great tune back in the day also.
