I suspect a lot of the negative comments below are from Fijians living in Australia. These are the ones who constantly talk about the big money (ilavo levu) they make. However, when they are asked to contribute to village development they quickly disappear or make excuses. They claim to have lots of money but never go back to their village and give meaningful help. They then criticise (sa vakaloloma ...) these brave men who go to Australia to do something for their families. $8,850 Australian is around $13,000 Fijian dollars. After expenses, where would these men get that for six months work in Fiji? Be realistic and give these men praise for their effort to rebuild their lives and that of their village instead of giving condescending comments. To my "Tauvu" from Koro, good on you, may all your hard work be rewarded by the Almighty.

@@melanatednesians1642 The white man or the yellow man or the red man is not obliged to pay you whatever you want. They run a business and if you don't want the work they will find someone else. That is the reality of the capitalist world that i suspect you live in. Unless you are a socialist living in some communist country where the State determines what your labour is worth. If you work hard and save your money you to will have people work for you and their wages will depend on 'supply and demand.' What your labour is worth in the current job environment.
In the meantime stop putting down people who have chosen (no one forced them) to go and work in Australia to help their family and their village. Unless you are willing to send funds to the Koro Islanders who are trying to put their lives back together. Complaining about some 'White man' in Australia is not going to put food on the table of villagers on Koro. Again, I say God bless the young men who chose to do something for their families instead of sitting and complaining.

Our government should take a proactive role in ensuring that Fijians are not treated unfairly by their overseas employers. There were recent cases highlighted by our dailies on this issue which needs to be addressed. Can our government devise a follow -up strategy to ensure that seasonal workers are not being exploited and receive their appropriate dues according to the work done. Our government should not allow this seasonal workers scheme to be a new system of exploiting working people. On the other hand, the Australian government should be applauded for the positive move........Vinaka vaka levu Sir!

Vinaka vakalevu na yalo ni sasaga. 3,000 graduates in Fiji are looking for jobs every year. Kemudou gade/holiday for six months, exercise ga vakalailai, vodo jet, lesu mai with AUD$8k. Far, far better than unemployed Fijians who stay home with $0 in their pocket for six months. Stop praying, start working. God bless you guys.

Somebody can tell me why can't you employ Australian living in Australia to work in these farm why?
    1) Educated Australian living in Australia knows the minimum wage rate in Australia but these workers don't.
2)Work conditions is very poor compared to Australian work standard.
Hours of work is too much compares to the income earned
Lastly why would a Government opted for overseas workers when you have a million people looking for jobs because its cheaper having overseas workers then employing the local ones.
I hope that all Fijians out their will be more educated and well informed before making a decision to accept these kind of offers GB everyone
