I like how the story isn't sentimental but shows clearly the quarrelsome nature of adults and children alike except for one difference: children are able to forgive more easily and regain their joy and delight in each other.

Weren't we were once children like those two little girls before we too become adults and lost our innocence and how we turned out to be

Childhood is the most pleasant and free part of any life -- fearless, truthful. unbiased, near to God, and playful. But alas! it is very short-lived, leaving behind never-ending nostalgia.

More than just a sweet story is this wisdom to live by: “Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4

I think its interesting and so often true. My father taught me as a young child this truth; children will argue and sometimes even fight. If the parents get into an arguement or fight over then, they will still be fighting long after the children have made up and are playing!! So true!

A wonderful and so true nice story to share. Yes, children are so much more resilient than adults. We have sooo much to learn from them! Thank you for sharing this story. Tolstoy was indeed a very insightful soul.

Why oh why does someone always have to bring religion, and only one religion at that, into every comment section. The Jewish bible, its
Christian and Muslim offshoots has brought more evil into the world than good.

Too many try to blame one side; when both are involved.
Too many moralize the joy of children and try to make enemies where there were none.

I had a neighbourhood child as my close friend and classmate from the age of four. We went to school and everywhere together until we went to different professional colleges. Our mothers competed and fought with each other all their lives on accord of us and all the neighbours and even some teachers joined in the comparison and side taking. Nothing affected our friendship and we are still close to each other like twins. Adults carried on fighting even till some of their death! We left them to their stupidity. 😂

Because the teaching of moral, religious principles, hymns, vedic scriptures are replaced by mundane articles, movies and books. Ilreligious becomes religious. Fame, wealth, power and prestigious become ONE'S false GOD.
All religious practice are meant to purify our mind and heart through acts of kindness, truthfulness, compassion and unconditional love to all living beings. The pure in heart can return back to the kingdom of God, the spiritual world .

Child LIKE and Child ISH are very different. Jesus meant for us to see the joy and excitement in life like children do, he didnt mean we should remain immature and irresponsible

I think He meant a natural faith in love and forgiveness triumphing over judgement. Trust and true effort at obedience, not perfection. Joy of life.

    • @spinnettdesigns

I absolutely agree. Childish is the opposite of what is being taught by this parable. Jesus knew that children didn’t have the same baggage as adults, which the leaves them bitter. Children more easily and more naturally choose joy over grudges and hate.
At 61 my family is deep in grudges and I’m grudge free, and that’s my childlike choice. 😊

    Matthew 18 NASB
    Rank in the Kingdom
1 At that [a]time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And He called a child to Himself and set him among them, 3 and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 So whoever will humble himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one such child in My name, receives Me; 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Tolstoy misquoted the bible passage, which in fact is Jesus own words. It had nothing to do with adult or child behaviour as such and everything to do with the only way to enter the kingdom of God.

I can understand your sentiments. It maybe was some of the 'harsh' wording of the writing and anger in the tone of voice in some parts of the reading that probably upset you. You sound like an HSP (a Highly Sensitive Person) About 15 -20% of the population are so. :-)
