Hands down one of my favorites in the challenge. Your choices of build are always the most interesting compared to us boring bladesmiths and our sharp edges 😂 i was considering making a bisento at first but the child in me wanted a katana 😂
Man oh man! From the pictures alone I figured you'll have my vote but this video definitely hammered it home. Fantastic build and fantastic video, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it 🙌
Really interesting entry to the challenge. Loved the forging process where the business end looked like a red hot steel octopus. This must have been a ton of hammer time. Those "beauty shots" were excellent entertainment. Awesome result, great job!
THIS is what I was talking about "make something that is NOT a katana, wakizashi or tanto! Be creative!". Thanks a lot Phil for making something original and (my god!) freaking cool!!! You didn't disappointing me brother! Love the whole video and the weapon (don't ask me to remember the name of it :P). And honestly, this is I guess the most hardcore forging project you could chose- phenomenal skill BRO!
Now that was a entertaining build! And yeah I gotta agree with you on the originality. Half the guys in the challenge made a katana I knew that was gonna happen but nothing wrong with that. Nice to see something outside the box and you nailed it! I’m kinda hoping the next challenge if I make it is the apocalypse as I feel a Viking challenge will be narrowed down to 3 items as well. (Axe, Sean ,sword) . Anyways I’d love to fight a bear with that weapon😂
That was absolutely brilliant, it boggles my mind to think this was an actually thing used on people, what a bad ass thing it is. Your getting my vote buddy
Mad props for originality, you get my vote in the challenge Also I get what you're saying about Tyrell, he just casually busts out a legendary caliber silver Damascus sword for this challenge, no big deal. For him
I guess you could have made a few of the spikes with screw tips instead of using visible screws. Seeing dust, stain rags, and flames scares the bejesus out of me. That weapon would definitely catch a ghost.
Just a suggestion for another option, instead of screws into blind holes, a brass nail with the head on the wood side, peened down on the metal side would have done the job ellegantly.
Phil this is a wicked piece. I certainly wouldn't want to be caught on the wrong end of that. you nailed it. I also enjoyed learning about your background in jiu-jitsu. P.S. you have my vote
i love it, that engraving i would of messed up the screws a spot of weld on each one to hide they are screws all worth the extra mile as its so dam cool, hope you dont mid the tips, as you give me plenty in your videos 😊😊 ps lol the lettice 😂😂 you got my vote simon
I really liked where you were going until the damn screws, using hardware screws wasn’t the problem it was leaving them with that commercial black finish just looks awful and stands out. Bit of advice for future projects is if using hardware like that stick them in your forge for a min to burn off the commercial finish or use a torch to do then dunk them immediately into oil which will color them somewhat better to match blacksmith work
Really cool. I was hoping someone woukd make this or a ornamental naginata. No offense to anyone but katana is boring af. Never understood the obsession with katana it was the samurai weakest weapon on the battlefield.
Stopped watching after I heard "centimeters" damned Europeans and your backwards measurements. Over here we all know that deer are as tall as a bicycle and weigh as much as 800 hamburgers. It's not that hard. Awesome work man. Really cool idea 💪🏻
ok ok but just from the image who the f would want to be not just 1 but possible hundreds of these things being swung around. christ even the guy's allies would be endangered by it but it would make single guy to guy fighters worry about just being hit with tips and barbs. the problem with it is once stuck in and the guy isn't hurt enough or dead you'll lose it most likely.
The polarity of you and Old Hickory is hilarious 😂
He says Kay-tan-uh and you speak Japanese 😂
I love this build!! You never disappoint on these builds and keep me smiling the whole time! 😂. Great job, Phil!
Cheers Denis!... (PS. I only hate you a little, some of the time) 😂
Damn.. that looks sooo mean 😆 Absolutely loving it man! Congrats!
Cheers mate! 😁🤘

Thanks man! I honestly loved your build. Your inner child wants what it wants, and you did it damn beautifully!
Bro that intro... daymn; commitment! That Sodegarami is gnarly! Cheers man
Thanks! Good luck with yours! :)
Man oh man! From the pictures alone I figured you'll have my vote but this video definitely hammered it home. Fantastic build and fantastic video, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it 🙌
Thanks a lot man! I fear that this weapon would easily lose to a samurai butter knife though! 😅
@@PJTForging Okay, you're probably right. But honestly, which weapon wouldn't lose to that? 🥸
Fair... Fair. 😎
That thing came out great man! Love it!
Cheers dude!
Love the different direction you went. That looked extremely hard to forge and came out awesome.
It may have been slightly awkward. 😅
Thanks a lot! :)

Awesome work fella! Definitely the best so far :)
Thanks dude!

Well you got my vote. Freaking awesome.

I thought the same about the Viking one. I'm hoping for sci-fi though. 😉
Thanks a lot, and good luck! :)
that is cool as, love the rustic, hand made look
Thanks Andy! 🤘

Also I get what you're saying about Tyrell, he just casually busts out a legendary caliber silver Damascus sword for this challenge, no big deal.
For him
Denis' skill is something to truly aspire to, for sure. 🤌
Thanks a lot for your support, I sincerely appreciate it! 🤘

My god. That was amawezome. That was super cool man.
Dude!!! err Mate*!? 😂 idk…. Loved the build and video was top notch! We’ll done!! you got my vote.
Thanks a lot! 🤘
If that is your assigned weapon, you know you're working for the baddies!
That drill press + angle grinder was very Michael Cthulhu... 😁
Where do you think I got the idea. 😉
So cool!
So glad someone made one of these!!!! It was second on my list but I ended up choosing a Naginata instead. Way to go! Such an amazing build!
Thanks a lot! :)
37 views and only 14 likes. Come on everyone. That’s not nice.
Keep up the great work looks amazing
Cheers! 😂
Love your work....maybe that a little strong....really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos dude. Can't wait.
Thanks Richard!
Holy Crap that looks deadly AF!!! So Cool Man!!! 😁👍👍👍
Thanks! :)

That weapon would definitely catch a ghost.
Damnit! I hadn't thought of that, that would have been a really good idea! 😅
Ha. The craziest no-blade smith blacksmith smithing a blade / weapon. Got my vote.
Thanks man. Alarmingly accurate description. 😅
@@PJTForging And to be clear, all of it meant in the most positive way. Love the end result. 👍
Great job. This challange introduced you to me. I am now a subscriber.
Hey thank man! Appreciate it :)

I like you man, your funny!
Cheers! 😅

Thanks Ally! I appreciate it. :)
Love it I think I might have to give it a go sometime
I forgot to ask.. what the hell does “piggy wiggly” mean?! 🤣. Is that the same as “wonky”? 😉
higgledy-piggledy
/ˌhɪɡ(ə)ldɪˈpɪɡ(ə)ldi/
adverb
in confusion or disorder.
"bits of paper hung higgledy-piggledy on the furniture and walls"
:)

Cheers Simon! I don't mind. :)
2:33 "Darn it Jim, I'm a blacksmith, not a..." And let the fun begin
As an American, I approve the "could be an American" statement...😂😂
😂😂😂
As an American, I don't approve!🧐 But I still laughed 🤣🤣🤣
It’s all in good fun I’m sure. And it got a follow out of me. I’m excited to see how this turns out

"it will Keal"
You should have turned down the rivet areas all at once on the lathe, then sharpen the end, cut it off, rinse and repeat. It would have been safer.
Less fun though. 😉
🤠

Tbh I kinda would of like to see how it would have been with brass colored fasteners
25:00 for when them farmers attack the feudal lord i guess...
Your like a super ninja turtle haha
...but which one? 😏
@PJTForging all of them

It's always fun to tease a little. 😉
That's not a Sodegarami . that's a Sodedamnedcool!
Cheers dude! :)
You do know that says Sexy Chicken Sandwich don't you?
I'd be 100% fine with that. 😅

Shipping to Ky USA?
Really cool. I was hoping someone woukd make this or a ornamental naginata. No offense to anyone but katana is boring af. Never understood the obsession with katana it was the samurai weakest weapon on the battlefield.
Don't get me wrong, I've been known to be a katana fan-boy here and there. But yeah, I wanted to do something a little different. 😅
Stopped watching after I heard "centimeters" damned Europeans and your backwards measurements. Over here we all know that deer are as tall as a bicycle and weigh as much as 800 hamburgers. It's not that hard.
Awesome work man. Really cool idea 💪🏻
Damned colonials. We taught you all that stuff before we ran away. 😂
Cheers dude!
At least your build is samurai adjacent, and not farming implements turned weapons that ninja, and not samurai used...
No Okinawa presence here. 😅
