God I love this thing! It was a lot of fun trying to figure out how to try and forge the head from one solid piece of steel, especially since it barely fit into my forge during the shaping process. But whilst it may not be perfect, I’m still thrilled with how it came out.

Hands down one of my favorites in the challenge. Your choices of build are always the most interesting compared to us boring bladesmiths and our sharp edges 😂 i was considering making a bisento at first but the child in me wanted a katana 😂

Now that was a entertaining build! And yeah I gotta agree with you on the originality. Half the guys in the challenge made a katana I knew that was gonna happen but nothing wrong with that. Nice to see something outside the box and you nailed it! I’m kinda hoping the next challenge if I make it is the apocalypse as I feel a Viking challenge will be narrowed down to 3 items as well. (Axe, Sean ,sword) . Anyways I’d love to fight a bear with that weapon😂
I thought the same about the Viking one. I'm hoping for sci-fi though. 😉

You didn't disappointing me brother! Love the whole video and the weapon (don't ask me to remember the name of it :P). And honestly, this is I guess the most hardcore forging project you could chose- phenomenal skill BRO!

I guess you could have made a few of the spikes with screw tips instead of using visible screws.
Seeing dust, stain rags, and flames scares the bejesus out of me.

Really interesting entry to the challenge. Loved the forging process where the business end looked like a red hot steel octopus. This must have been a ton of hammer time. Those "beauty shots" were excellent entertainment. Awesome result, great job!

I really liked where you were going until the damn screws, using hardware screws wasn’t the problem it was leaving them with that commercial black finish just looks awful and stands out. Bit of advice for future projects is if using hardware like that stick them in your forge for a min to burn off the commercial finish or use a torch to do then dunk them immediately into oil which will color them somewhat better to match blacksmith work
Just a suggestion for another option, instead of screws into blind holes, a brass nail with the head on the wood side, peened down on the metal side would have done the job ellegantly.

You should have turned down the rivet areas all at once on the lathe, then sharpen the end, cut it off, rinse and repeat. It would have been safer.
Less fun though. 😉

Really cool. I was hoping someone woukd make this or a ornamental naginata. No offense to anyone but katana is boring af. Never understood the obsession with katana it was the samurai weakest weapon on the battlefield.
Don't get me wrong, I've been known to be a katana fan-boy here and there. But yeah, I wanted to do something a little different. 😅

ok ok but just from the image who the f would want to be not just 1 but possible hundreds of these things being swung around. christ even the guy's allies would be endangered by it but it would make single guy to guy fighters worry about just being hit with tips and barbs. the problem with it is once stuck in and the guy isn't hurt enough or dead you'll lose it most likely.
