not a regular watcher of Emmerdale, but this storyline had me gripped... well done to the writers for dealing with such a serious health matter with such sensitivity.
I watched Emmerdale for years before my family started watching it too. I always was so fond of Ashley so hearing news of his diagnosis really hit me. John Middleton did an incredible job showing us what it must be like hearing about and dealing with dementia. This is what TV should be.
My friends grandma has Alzheimer's but her granddad is trying to find her a care home. One care home near his home said they would take her in but for £4000 a month. He cannot afford it. It is hard for him and the rest of my friends family.
Chelsea Kirves I am sorry to hear this. That is the common rate for self-funding (if you have over £23,250 in savings and assets including property) otherwise the local council should be helping. I hope it was sorted x
I remember watching this exact episode and followed upon the storyline afterwards. Such a heartbreaking storyline and brilliant acting by the people. Nowadays I just can’t watch emmerdale - the storylines are not as good as they used to be (I’m not saying every storyline has to be a tragedy) but progressively I find the show less watchable by each point. Arthur’s character has been ruined in a stupid bullying storyline with Archie which came out of nowhere.
Bless him brilliant acting

This dementia storyline was very well played out by Emmerdale. It is just like real life great acting too.

Tbh, in the 90s, the whole Donna/Andy bullying storyline seemed to come out of nowhere.
