I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
I just picked one up this past week and it has been great so far. I have 1.25 acres and it trimmed the full yard in a single charge. I have a couple of wooded areas with dense underbrush but it had plenty of power to trim the very thick weeds that try to come from the woods into the yard. Best part - never having to start a 2-cycle motor ever again!
Just bought one. You're right on all performance points....except mine is not a year old. But I ditched a nearly new Stihl gas-powered trimmer, because loading or advancing trim line was an absolute horror show. That was $140 down the tubes. I gave it to my nextdoor neighbor. The Ego was $189, and it works like a dream. After weeks of watching trimmer videos, the Ego came out on top. Now, having used it a few times, I'm convinced I bought the very best product. Incidentally, your video is very good. Especially the edging demo.
I recently purchased the EGO hedge trimmer (24”) after owning a Black and Decker hedge hog corded and an older stihl gas power version. I’m blown away at how much work you can do with these things. No worries about cutting an extension cord and they are designed to work while slightly wet. I ran mine today for about an hour and the charger indicates the battery is still good to go! I’m going for the snow blower next!
I love mine. I bought a strap so I don't have to hold it all with my arms/hands. It has been a great addition to my lawn care tools. I can't wait the get the EGO lawn mower.
I just used mine for the first time yesterday. The edger attachment worked like a charm. The weed whacker worked great in the horizontal position, but when I rotated it to edge my garden beds, I found it awkward. The perfect solution would be either a circular handle, or a quick-rotating handle. EGO, take note! Update: I merely rotated the handle one quarter turn, and the problem is solved.
I've had mine for about 4 years. It still runs like new. Mine feels lightweight and balanced with 2ah battery but I've been lifting weights for years so I'm stronger than average mortals. All in all the EGO doesn't feel any heavier than my STIHL FS90R or my FS80R. You could add a strap if it's hurting your arm.
@@tsubasarides4650 I forgot to mention that I have Jedi trimming skills so I took the plastic guard off the end which really helped balance it out and lets me get into tight places the guard won't go.
I have one of these and I LOVE IT! It has great power and longevity. It is also very quiet. It is hugely convenient so I find myself grabbing it and using it much more often than my Stihl gas weedeater. I also purchased a blower so I can clean up around the house and shop. It also means I have two batteries. If you are thinking about getting one of these, go get it, you wont regret it.
Just found your video. I recently bought the EGO mower, primarily for my wife, but i love it too. I am now considering the purchase of a trimmer. Thanks for the video!
I found it helpful to experiment with the front handle positioning. Moving it back seemed to work better, allowing me to stand up straighter and places more pressure on the armrest.
I bought the ego mower a year ago, and it has exceeded my expectations. Yesterday I used it at my in-laws to mow thick, 3 foot grass on an uneven, almost unwalkable hill. I don't think any gas mower I've ever owned could have done the job. I'm looking forward to getting the "line trimmer". Just wanted to see it in action. I think the line trimmer will be better suited to taking on that hill for next time.
I’ve had my ego repaired once. The motor was replaced under warranty and then it quit again after one use. There is a design flaw in the first generation. They PULL taller grass in. The cooling fan catches the tall grass- or worse - vines and cause them to wrap inside the motor shaft. Happens way too quickly to notice until too late. That ruins the motor
Mark Oppuse I brought one that has to be mixed with something else and I didn’t knew till it stopped working. It works, but sometimes it refused to start. I hate pulling and pulling to get it started. Definitely getting an electric cordless one now.
Have the same trimmer for 2 yrs. Works well. Battery just died but ego is replacing it under 3 yr warranty. Only complaint is that the head can be very difficult to release. Also battery replacement remains high at $149 for 2.5ah 60v battery.
Pretty much how my EGO trimmer performs: a bit heavy but I've never used a gas trimmer to compare. My model is the 1 with the carbon-fiber shaft. After about 1 season, I had to refill the string; the easy-spool loading didn't work as promised though. After several tries to get the new line loaded and failing to get it to load, I decided to return it to Home Depot. Unfortunately, Home Depot noticed the purchase date was over their 6 months return limit; they would only give me store-credit. I didn't want to mess with EGO repairing it under warranty, so I took the credit and then discovered that Home Depot no longer sells EGO products. Since I also have a leaf-blower that uses the same battery, I had to buy the new trimmer at Ace Hardware. So I'm disappointed in HD. But all in all, I like the trimmer and the blower with the lithium battery that powers both. I'm hoping that when I have to replace the line, I don't have a problem.
@J M interesting, correct me if i'm wrong. read on Meewakee website that 1 charged HD9.0 battery (18 * 9 = 162 W hr) = 1 hr run time. And Ego's 2.5 Ah battery (56 * 2.5 = 140 W hr)... and thats about 30-35 mins run time. Would that suggest Meewakee's motor is more efficient?
I just got an EGO 56v self powered with the carbon fiber. You load the string and push a button it'll load it for you.I haven't gotten it yet I'm hoping I get it tomorrow sometime.I ordered mine online they are hard to get in the local stores right now.
Thanks for video ... quite enjoyable ... one thing i might recommend is that when giving a product review, please state the model number ... nonetheless, a very nice video ...
Our city council workers are transitioning to ego eventually as their products get better. I've been told a power gauge/meter will be put on green button in a circular design as soon as the current stock runs out.
I could not imagine using a battery operated lawn tool lol. Probably because I’m a mechanic so I would want to do maintenance on the gas powered one. Using something like that would be boring for me. Plus gas is more powerful from my experience. My parents had bought a battery trimmer I had them return it and bought a top of the line one gas one. I’ve used this brand and a few other battery one. Haven’t been impressed with them at all. Guess everything is expensive too.
wow. Mine didn't even last a week with minimal trimming. The bump head failed and EGO said either they would send a new bump head or I could take it back. I am surprised you said you edged with it because that's what was doing when the line started coming only one side and I had to keep reloading, and finally I can't even get the string to load. EGO told me this trimmer was not designed to edge and that's what was causing the bump head problems. Very disappointed
Bought an EGO trimmer just like this one at HD. Works great but battery crapped out after a year. Replaced under warranty. Son in law had same experience with his EGO.
It could do with a cruise control for less fatigue in large areas... Btw buddy its designed so you don't need to crouch... Practice with it standing upright to protect your back
I found the same results as you with left arm burned out from holding the heavy electric head up. Gas powered trimmers are easier on the arms but suck if they don't start because of gas issues.
I've added a strip of expanding foam with the density of say a wrestling mat on the arm rest.No cord to trip over.Lost the desire for huffing two stroke fuel and the auto string loading is like slipping on a pair of white hush puppy loafers! The only downside is that I already know what to expect in heaven!
Great to know the battery life is strong but for some reason the review always focus on cutting edges I would like to see it trimmer a small square yard to absolute ground. Would like to see how it handle cutting down grass as low as possible.
Thanks! I can find all kinds of out of the box new reviews, this is the first review after a whole season of use I've found. I would like to see a follow up after a second season. I'm curious to see if the battery life is holding up ok and if you see any overall decline in the performance.
Nice review except saying that the battery lasts "forever" isn't very helpful. Do you mean forever on one charge ? Or forever if you keep charging it ? Could you give me a ballpark duration for 2.5A on a single charge ?
Nice video, no wonder your arms are sore after trimming/edging, you're edging incorrectly. Stand up straight, hold the string trimmer close to you, have the line edge your edge. You are using an inch or two of line to make the edge and walk backwards. Hold the trimmer close to your body to reduce stress. So what it will look like is the battery will be close to your head.
Joe Meow if I was wearing shorts I would also put maximum distance between me and string head, I know my trimmer kicks up a quite a bit of debris that would sting if hitting bare skin.
Bought mine about this time last year and i really like it, but ive already had to replace the charger (diode fried) and enitre weedeater (drive motor literally melted down). Warranty covered so i got the new stuff free, but the battery life is very lacklustre (still using original) from mine time using it, on a full charge i might get 10min before it starts cutting out. Weedeater seems like its still got plenty of power, the computer is just saying no for one reason or another. Mind you i do not use it commercially, just my own yard. Its a shame because i like it and dont want to throw it away, but there is no way in hell im spending $400 on a new/upgrade battery. Id give it a 3/5 atars, for light residential use only.
Hi...have the EGO mower and love it. Am toying with getting the weed whacker. Currently have a B&D Grass hog electric. My question is how easy is the EGO weed whacker to change the string? B&D is very easy.
Joan Baird Just replaced a B&D GH1000 with an EGO ST1520S yesterday. Love the freedom from the cord, but on first use I prefer the feel of the B&D to the EGO. Might be just a matter of getting used to the straight shaft after 13 yrs using the B&D, also miss the GH’s automatic line feed right away. I found it a little harder to gauge the cutting plane when holding it upside down for edging compared to the GH, and it’s not as comfortable to hold in that position as the GH where the shaft rotates to keep the grip position the same. Again, that may become more comfortable in time after getting used to the different feel. Had an EGO mower, blower, and hedge trimmer for a while and LOVED all of those on first use compared to what each replaced. I like the trimmer, but don’t love it yet. Since I’ve only used it once, can’t testify to the ease of line replacement, but the ST1520/ST1520S has the powerload feature. Cut 13ft of line, push it through the head so that half is sticking out either end, hold down a button at the end of the shaft and it winds itself. There’s a rapid load version that is similar in that you push a length of string through the head, then twist the head manually until it’s wound. Both should be easier than the GH.
@@53C52 Just looked at the Ego trimmer at Home Depot. It appears to not have the metal piece that helps to line up the edges of the sidewalk. (B&D does) Also not clear how you flip it over like the B&D. I'm still on the fence but appreciated your comments!
Can someone use generic replacement line? I assume the only plus the EGO brand line is being pre-cut to maximum line lenght the auto spooler will take. If nothing special about EGO line, one could buy generic line and precut to the lenght needed. What is your observation on that?
Hang in there. My edging with this was terrible at first too (not that I'm a pro by any means). The biggest difficulty for me was that there is so much more weight at the head (by the string) because of the electric motor being there. It threw my balance off for awhile, but now it's not an issue for me.
We bought one about 1.5 year ago and the battery when placed in the charger make clicking sounds and it doesn't charge.. looked into replacing it but they are anywhere from $140 to $400 thats outrageous for a unit that has less then 1.5 with moderate use.. 👎👎
gleneckert1 My husband bought this, but he’s recently had surgery so I’m using it. I like it, but there’s a lot I don’t know about it. I didn’t know that it had speeds, and why did he press the button on the battery? I also have trouble replacing line, and I didn’t know it was a bump feed...or is it?
Hello, is there any chance you could do me a favor? I’m interested in buying a new ego weed eater and I was wondering what the full assembled length is…I’m kinda tall and I was thinking I might try to look for a unit that’s a bit longer so I’m not bending over too much but I’m having a hard time getting the full length specs on the 2 ego models I’m looking at and other brands as well like kobalt, greenworks, et cetera. If you could measure the length from end to end I would appreciate it, thank you.
EGO HANDS DOWN!!! Not even close. EGO has a great track record in outdoor power equipment and that's all their known for. Milwaukee has no track record in outdoor power equipment. Only power tools!!! Milwaukee does make outdoor power equipment yes but they just started that a few years ago. I wouldnt rely on them like I would EGO. That's for sure. EGO has been proven for more years then Milwaukee when it comes to outdoor power equpiment.
Mine works good and has plenty of power. But I'm very tall, 6'5" so I get a backache. It's new, so maybe I'll figure that part out. But l love not messing with gas plus the quiet.
I did not do so well with mine. I haven't made it one season, actually one string change. The feeder is terrible and has never worked well out of the box. Every time I need more string I need to take the head apart. I would not recommend this product.
The trimmer shaft should be almost vertical with what your’re trying to edge. Look up some videos on UA-cam and you’re edge can look 20x better than what you’re doing right now lol
I hate my Ego trimmer, but love my other Ego tools. I just can’t get used to the clockwise rotation. It’s a deal breaker for sure. If you’re used to a pro level trimmer you’ll never get used to it. It’s like learning to write with your other hand. Look how awkward it looks in this video. What was Ego thinking?

Just replaced a B&D GH1000 with an EGO ST1520S yesterday.

If you want to edge with the EGO, you have to hold it upside down so that the battery and trigger are facing up instead of down.
But I'm very skeptical of using it for push mower and for my landscaping business but only for Hedges and bushes that I do in the morning
I smack the bottom and can't get the line to feed, I've rethread it through to make sure nothing was bound up inside.
That’s odd, this has been the best trimmer for the auto feed system.
I returned the bad one and replaced it. It runs great now. Love It!
1 year review & you wanted to test it out for a couple of summers? 🤔
For me, as a senior, it was way too heavy for me so I returned it.
It is a bit heavier than my old gas model.
Try standing up straight and walking backwards. It’s much easier on the back...and faster
Are they rain proof I get 9 months of rain and rest is summer
Hi there great review. Which model is that weed wacker?
It would be nice to know but It could be the 1502 maybe, hard to tell I hope he responds.
Can someone use generic replacement line? I assume the only plus the EGO brand line is being pre-cut to maximum line lenght the auto spooler will take. If nothing special about EGO line, one could buy generic line and precut to the lenght needed. What is your observation on that?
I just bought one of these and I can’t get the hang of it. I’ve been a gas guy forever and for whatever reason my edging looks like crap with my ego.
Hang in there. My edging with this was terrible at first too (not that I'm a pro by any means). The biggest difficulty for me was that there is so much more weight at the head (by the string) because of the electric motor being there. It threw my balance off for awhile, but now it's not an issue for me.
I thought it was just me being out of shape that it felt heavy to me 😆
You're not alone!
He’s used to a curved shaft, fellas.
Lmao 😂

We bought one about 1.5 year ago and the battery when placed in the charger make clicking sounds and it doesn't charge.. looked into replacing it but they are anywhere from $140 to $400 thats outrageous for a unit that has less then 1.5 with moderate use.. 👎👎
The bump head not working was because you probably had an MTD made trimmer such as Troy Bilt or Craftsman. They are JUNK!
Did battery life decline over time? Someone has one for sale that is 2 years old and I worry about the battery
how is it doing so far in 2022? im thinking of getting one
Did he say change speeds?
Cause mine does not seem like it was last week.
gleneckert1 My husband bought this, but he’s recently had surgery so I’m using it. I like it, but there’s a lot I don’t know about it. I didn’t know that it had speeds, and why did he press the button on the battery? I also have trouble replacing line, and I didn’t know it was a bump feed...or is it?
why am i watching this review if its still on the orignal string after freaking year.. hasnt been used enough to even tell......
good trimmer but the bump head always breaks...
Ego HAS to get in on the solar battery game... so much $ to be made...
battery powered plus preloaded spools is the ultimate...so my question is can you buy preloaded spools for this machine?
@mark rush
No need. It has a feature that will load the spool for you. It’s genius
You really should have shown the string rewind, now that’s cool !!
I haven't had to replace it yet. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever run out..
would love to know where to buy this all the stores i go to dont have it
having trouble with the string when you bump it on the ground
have to stop and manually pull it out
you can use the 2.5 in your mower?
If you are asking, yes the 2.5 can be used in the 21" self propelled mower it just won't last as long as the 7.5 that came with it.
What’s your thoughts on the Milwaukee vs Ego. Which one would you go with for the Lawn Equipment?
EGO HANDS DOWN!!! Not even close. EGO has a great track record in outdoor power equipment and that's all their known for. Milwaukee has no track record in outdoor power equipment. Only power tools!!! Milwaukee does make outdoor power equipment yes but they just started that a few years ago. I wouldnt rely on them like I would EGO. That's for sure. EGO has been proven for more years then Milwaukee when it comes to outdoor power equpiment.
How long does the battery last before you have to charge it?
How long does a full charge last? New vs 2 summers later?
Mine works good and has plenty of power. But I'm very tall, 6'5" so I get a backache. It's new, so maybe I'll figure that part out. But l love not messing with gas plus the quiet.
David Knigge Darwin’s grip is what you need
@@brandonboutwell8653 where do I find that?
They have them on amazon
I did not do so well with mine. I haven't made it one season, actually one string change. The feeder is terrible and has never worked well out of the box. Every time I need more string I need to take the head apart. I would not recommend this product.
Replacement of the Battery is real painful to your bank account too
How is the Trimmer Holding up in 2019 ?
The trimmer shaft should be almost vertical with what your’re trying to edge. Look up some videos on UA-cam and you’re edge can look 20x better than what you’re doing right now lol
Can u wash?
I hate my Ego trimmer, but love my other Ego tools. I just can’t get used to the clockwise rotation. It’s a deal breaker for sure. If you’re used to a pro level trimmer you’ll never get used to it. It’s like learning to write with your other hand. Look how awkward it looks in this video. What was Ego thinking?
Interessante e bella idea
I just picked up a 82V Snapper
