Such a gorgeous book - each shed is unique and inspiring, and I love all the tiny details Kotite features to help readers imagine how to create their own She Sheds ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR . The feature on Dinah's Rustic Retreat is like something from a fairy tale. It's really inspiring to see how creative all these ordinary people are in making beautiful and useful spaces on a modest scale.

When Ontario, Canada was on lockdown, all of the home improvement stores were in the essential business category so they were open with curb side pickup for online orders. So people could at least work on home improvement projects while the lock down was in place.

As a contractor in Ontario I can tell you we never stopped. We were also considered essential and as long as you had permits pulled before the lockdown date then you were good to go during the lockdown.

Hey Scott, I'm a 22 year old apprentice carpenter in Ireland. Over the course of the pandemic we were one of the most lockdowned countries in the world. Being in construction we weren't allowed work for up to a total of 7 months (save for very essential works) over the last year and half. That amount of inactivity and idleness, especially for someone who likes to be busy, has meant that the last year and half has been the hardest of my life. My mental health was shattered. Thankfully now we are lucky to be coming out the other side of it and life is starting to return to normal. Stay strong, I know exactly how bad the bad days can be, the good times are to come.

I’m in Scotland where things are better. However, like you, I’m self employed and the back end of our lockdowns is now hitting home. I’ve been left with tax bills that are due, and I’m stressed out about it. I work my arse off and have done for decades. Now, I’m being chased for payments I couldn’t make because I was told not to work and respected that. TBH, I wish I’d kept going, who’s health is number one after all….

I thankfully had savings coming into lockdown 1 so paid the VAT and tax up to date and lived on the rest as all my work was inside homes and I didn’t deem it essential. It’s left my cash flow crippled now though what I should have had as reserves is gone. With costs rising it seems like daily I’m not sure how much further I will go before I sell up. A winter lock down will be end of trading for me after 19years.

But on an upside, our hardware stores are open to trade only or click and collect. So we have been doing a lot of reno work at our sons place. stripped nearly every wall out. Lol. Thanks for your videos. They are keeping us sane.

Hi guys, I feel your frustration. Throughout our lockdowns here in the uk, I kept to all the restrictions. With the recent easing, I kept with guidance and wore masks in enclosed and crowded spaces, used hand sanitiser etc, but in honestly many didn’t. Consequently our cases, mostly Celaya variant, have surged. Last Friday I started with a temperature and had a positive COVID test on Saturday which leaves me self-isolating for 10 days. Feeling a bit like I’ve been run over by a bus, I’m double jabbed so hoping I’ll get a mild case and am slowly on the mend. It just shows how quickly things can change. Take care out there guys and be SO careful when things ease.

Not to be a cunt, but it'll never end. Deploying a vaccine DURING a pandemic does not work, especially with an airborne virus (high theoretical maximum R0) and a vaccine that doesn't provide wide immunity (i.e. high effectiveness against potential variants, which your own immune response produces). Whether you're an island nation or feckin Russia, vaccine's aren't even a short term solution to this problem, let alone a long term solution.

    • @whirled_peas
      @whirled_peas 3 роки тому +1

And check out the term "leaky vaccine" if the above sounds like bollocks. It's a well established phenomenon, predicted by many epidemiologists to essentially be an certainty with this pandemic, and almost certainly known to be a very high probability by vaccine produces. Who benefits from a leaky vaccine situation? Vaccine producers.

The only thing that kept me sane was having my workshop at the bottom of my garden so I could get on with little projects I'd never had time for in the past. Guess I'm lucky to have that. People who have been stuck in flats or apartments and not had an outside space available 24/7 must be particularly hard hit in these difficult times.

I married a kiwi….’used to go back home for visits’ so I feel you….we’ve got it bad in Mt. We’ve gone mad here in the states. I’m vulnerable and was glad to have access to the vaccine and miss going back to New Zealand. Can’t wait for some form of normal to return. I live and get to visit some of my two favorite places. I’m already disabled by disease, so this has just been vinegar in a wound. It’s hard. I think you’re doing what you can. This delta is so infectious and you can see cases just sky rocket even in rural areas (comparatively) to Auckland. We’ve seen cases double every week in Mt. the last 3 weeks with nearly a 50% vaccination rate which goes to show how contagious this new strain is-it’s getting as bad as when we had nothing but some common sense. It’s a drag. Enjoy your videos….we will eventually get through this but we will just have to learn how to manage. I’m afraid of what that looks like even being fairly young at 52. Illness has a way of giving perspective and good health has a way of making many feel impervious. It’s certainly a strange one. Love that crispy clear air that time of year. Say hello to Grant if you come across him on an inspection..Small world and all!

It's weird cos I feel like I know you as I watch your videos, but this one brought me closer to both of you seeing you also going through what I describe as the worst thing to happen to me in my lifetime, a lot worse then the time I was crushed between 2 cars as a pedestrian and lived to tell the tale. I'm in Melbourne Australia and hurting, I'm a mentaly strong guy,32 with a wife,2 kids and a dog. Lockdown 7 and it's taking a toll not just on me and my wife but my poor kids. I can't be with my best mate and his family. I feel alone with nothing to lok forward to. To all of you out there I'm super sorry my story isn't a good one but watching Scott made me feel like I could open up.
I know we all have our own battles from time to time but I am right there with you Scott!
All the best to every single one of you ❤

Stay safe guys, we've already been through it here in the UK, and not to burst your bubble but it basically lasted most of 2020! I'm also a carpenter and didn't do any work mainly to keep my ageing dad isolated (he's 84) What I did manage to do though was convert my newish van into a work/camper, something I had been planning for a while, and fortunately already had most of the materials to hand, so for me it was ideal having the time to get stuck in, not sure it would have ever gotten done without it! ;)

It'll all get better soon, vaccines are rolling out, and the world will eventually get back to some level of normality (this isn't the first pandemic).
If you're looking for lockdown videos, I'd love to see how you maintain your tools, whether it be sharpening, oiling, cleaning, etc.

The vaccines will not end this because people can still get sick and transmit the virus. The most heavily vaccinated places in the world still have covid and some are on second and third booster shot. This virus and variants are here to stay. Improve your personal health and get on with life because lockdowns are a short term solutions and do nothing but cripple economies that are on the brink already. People need to wake up

Most kiwis haven’t a clue how lucky they are, I moved to the NZ from the UK in March, in the UK we were in lockdown for over a year, less strict than here in NZ but actually worse because it was essentially only a social lockdown for most people, which is actually horrible on the mental health after a while. Then UK has had over 13000 deaths and still having nearly 100 deaths a day! I see some of the rubbish some kiwis are saying on a lot of comment threads online and honestly, they really need to seriously check their privilege.

On top of that we had a cold, wet and grey winter, so going out doing walks was just no fun, so consider it a total win for you guys, that your surroundings are sooo beautiful, and that spring is coming.

Well being a fellow Commonwealther if that is even a word I will say that it is likely the Film and TV industry in New Zealand or Australia is likely as buoyant as it is here in Canada. Some of us in the production side have turned to doing carpentry work for the streaming companies that are going gangbusters. I would say that given SB considerable skill level he may consider contacting the union for Film and TV workers... here it is IATSE... and see if he can get some carpentry work with those set builders etc. We all wore masks and had proximity lanyards to make sure we were far enough apart . Tested every week and so on. Mind you pre pandemic there was always a huge demand for carpenters but fairly low supply of resonably qualified people. So Mr Brown it may be worth a look into the set making world.

I know it might not look like it, but let me tell you, NZ is a great role model how to deal with this pandemic, and at least people who are not stupid, envy you guys. I hope vaccinations help you even more. I'm writing this from Europe, where some countries are doing well with vaccinations and measures, unfortunately some are not (where I'm stuck at the moment), and there aren't any effective measures, people are not getting the vaccines (some are just expiring unused) and the worst part, people are dying in record numbers.

I will say that a lockdown or something resembling it is common in many other areas of the world. The difference is that your country tackles it immediately and does it intensely over a shorter period of time to get cases to 0, while the rest of us are just trying to keep from losing too many people and lived through a lot more social distancing and day-to-day complications persistently for the last 18+ months. I would go with NZ's response, given it is a set of islands and can get cases to zero, any day over what we've gone through. Stay strong!
