Wii u kinda did the same thing back in 2012. If someone was using the tv you could switch it to the gamepad. Only difference is you had to be kinda close to the console.
My dualsense controller stick has the drift, but the sticks on this are different. Idk about internally but externally they are smaller in size which makes me believe they won't get drift and sony quietly changed the sticks
@@CC_Reads Sony has def done atleast three redesigns of the Dualsense now. 1,A and now we’re on B and they’ve been working on the stick drift issue, they’re aware of it.
Idk the price seems on point for what it is. The PSP launched at $249 in 2005, which is a whopping $406 adjusted for inflation. Games were $40 and had to be purchased even if you had them for your console. This is an extension of your PS5, with all the games you’ve already purchased. The major drawback being you need constant WiFi, which I get, but this trade off seems worth it.
Having to have it linked to the same wifi is pointless as you can't leave the house with it. What's the purpose of having a "portable gaming platform" if it's not even truly portable
There are so many little things with like no web browser, no Bluetooth , possible stick drift in a year if they fix all those things maybe it’s worth 200
You can spend that 199 to so much more essential items. Wait till they release a real handheld device to compete with the steam deck market and you'll come selling your portal just to get the next handheld lol.
I finished the whole ghostwire tokyo with platinum with the portal alone. Apart from the connectivity issues, it's amazing. Even with the same wifi and having the device nearby, it doesn't connect most of the time..
But it does work even out of the country. I tried and can confirm. My console is in different country and i brought my portal to different country and tried logging in and it worked
I find that this isn’t worth it. I get constant disconnections at home even and I do check that both the ps5 and the portal are using the same connection as well. Always disconnecting and sometimes poor connection which makes the game looks fuzzy like your watch a hi res UA-cam video with Bad connection . ATM it’s been sitting unused for the past month. Prolly not using it again.
Does ur ps5 needs to be connected to wifi on its own even after u already connected it with Portale? Because i know u have to have both be connected to wifi when pairing it but after that does the console itself needs to still be runnin on wifi!????

This has been really insightful for me, I keep hearing mixed messages so hearing 8 hour battery life and that things basically run very smooth and have a headphone jack sounds amazing~
No it’s not worth the premium price tag. Once I learned that it requires an internet connection, and not just being able to DL my games so I can actually use it on the go, it chose to forego it because it’s not what I’m actually looking for in my mobile gaming.
@@_AmericanDad_ the psp and vita were premium items, costing between 100 and 200 in their respective times, and could work independently of the systems they were associated with, the portal cannot do that, so yes, it’s not worth the premium price, yes that’s a premium price as it comes to accessories. Better than buying a pair of shoes that cost that much.. or spending it in fast food… buying cigarettes… beer.. liquor… hookers…. Drugs etc… I could go on for days how much we all blow money on frivolous things.. not a bad way to waste it if you are a gamer… (in my opinion)
Let me educate you nerds on something… Sony will never make another psp anytime soon. Do you guys want to know why? It’s because for one the technology is not truly here yet to run current gen or even last gen. Anyone telling you the lie that the steam deck or the Rog ally can is full of it. Triple A games struggle mightly on those devices unless the Mod community can work magical powers most games do not run well… 2. Sony and Nintendo stopped making handhelds ( switch is not a handled) because developers were complaining about making two separate games. The reason the steamdeck and Ally can get away with this is because the Mod community is heavy on there 3. There isn’t a battery on the market that can handle last gen or current gen. This is why the battery life on the steam deck is terrible now 4. Cloud Gaming… Sony is trying to make history with the cloud by you being able to play ps5 games without the need of a console and the technology behind their architect is slowly closing the gap.
Ok? No need to treat console nerds lower than you are, and insulting those people who mention the Steam Deck and such doesn’t help… You do have some points tho, I’ll give you that. But you act like you know everything about this stuff, at least when you mentioned the word “educate”

This video was super helpful! but i have a question, what if someone plays the Playstation portal while another person is playing on the same PS5 but in a different account on a tv?
So does the portal run on the exact same hardware as my iPhone 15 pro max using the remote play app? Or does it have some different internals that help be a bit more like a switch even though I know it only runs on WiFi and streams the games!
So once you get done streaming your game to the device. You are not allowed to play it.. say like at work on your lunch break or you need to be having hotspot to log on
Other hand helds do more than just stream a ps5. Plus you need to own a ps5 so 500 for a ps5 plus 200 for a glorified remote play app. Legion go is literally a hand held pc.
So does that mean in theoretical terms of course that someone could log onto their account and leave yours signed in on the ps5 and still be signed on the portal as well ?

I don’t understand especially when he said you can’t play it at a coffee shop
Will the portal have left stick drag?
My dualsense controller stick has the drift, but the sticks on this are different. Idk about internally but externally they are smaller in size which makes me believe they won't get drift and sony quietly changed the sticks
@@CC_Reads Sony has def done atleast three redesigns of the Dualsense now. 1,A and now we’re on B and they’ve been working on the stick drift issue, they’re aware of it.
I have drift on both my remotes just bought a 3rd today. 60 quid. It's a joke
So u can’t play it unless you have a ps5
Duh... thats not hard to understand is it! 😳😳
@lewisdinnebier7931 .....lol. you sure?
Having to have it linked to the same wifi is pointless as you can't leave the house with it. What's the purpose of having a "portable gaming platform" if it's not even truly portable
Nope. But you can play outside your home. The price is 200 for a reason. At least it has a decent sized screen.

I find that this isn’t worth it. I get constant disconnections at home even and I do check that both the ps5 and the portal are using the same connection as well. still amazed how you pack so much information in a 4mims video! awesome job
$199 is a premium price point?
@@_AmericanDad_ the psp and vita were premium items, costing between 100 and 200 in their respective times, and could work independently of the systems they were associated with, the portal cannot do that, so yes, it’s not worth the premium price, yes that’s a premium price as it comes to accessories. For that price it should be able to function independent of the PS5, much like its predecessor’s, and even the controllers and headsets.
So you want a steam deck for $199? nah@@skullfracture3870

Dude the old pulse headset comes with a wire. So you can use the original pulse headset. Just use it wired.
It also works wirelessly because of the dongle it comes with (plugged into ps5)
£200 is crazy for literally a screen and a controller stuck together
The controller itself is worth 70£.... £200 isnt that much when the dualsense edge is £210
Also a good reminder if you use hotspots you will be on nat type 3.
Please explain
I'm not to tech savvy but is that good or bad ?
@@PitBot808 it's bad. If you're going to play multiplayer you need a nat type 2 or open nat type. Nat type 3 is closed which means you can only connect to people who are also on nat type 3.
Will you though because the game is essentially running from your ps5 on your home Wi-Fi and this is essentially just a second screen?
@Carswell_95 You can also take it anywhere else and play away from home. This is when hotspots will give you nat type issues. But it's also dependent on your phone provider.

Whatever your PS5 is playing, that's what this thing is going to stream. Since your PS5 will be playing only one account at a time, so will the PSP
Okay, thank you!
what a waste of potential. Instead of developing a new hand held we get this
It’s not possible that’s why…
making a new handheld for sony would split there market into three(PS home-console, PSVR, PS portable).
@@x0Fang0x exactly which is bad
If you had to pick one, would you buy this or would you buy a backbone that's cheaper and you can do the same thing?
id buy a portal because I would still want to use my phone while gaming, also this has the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
You can't use the backbone an phone anywhere that has wifi can't do tht with a portal
I have a backbone and I'm getting my portal in the mail tomorrow. Would certainly choose the portal simpy due to the bigger screen, vibration feedback, etc.
Waste of resources..
I don't know if you've tried it, but how well does it work if your PS5 is connected to your home network via WiFi?
Let me educate you nerds on something… Sony will never make another psp anytime soon. Do you guys want to know why? It’s because for one the technology is not truly here yet to run current gen or even last gen. Anyone telling you the lie that the steam deck or the Rog ally can is full of it. Triple A games struggle mightly on those devices unless the Mod community can work magical powers most games do not run well…
2. Sony and Nintendo stopped making handhelds ( switch is not a handled) because developers were complaining about making two separate games. The reason the steamdeck and Ally can get away with this is because the Mod community is heavy on there
3. There isn’t a battery on the market that can handle last gen or current gen. This is why the battery life on the steam deck is terrible now
4. Cloud Gaming… Sony is trying to make history with the cloud by you being able to play ps5 games without the need of a console and the technology behind their architect is slowly closing the gap.
Ok? No need to treat console nerds lower than you are, and insulting those people who mention the Steam Deck and such doesn’t help…
You do have some points tho, I’ll give you that. But you act like you know everything about this stuff, at least when you mentioned the word “educate”

It would be great if you could take it on a trip, maybe to a relative’s house, connect it to their WiFi and use it…

So stick drift means you just spent 209 pounds for no reason
U can swap out the thumb stick modules kinda like the dualsense edge. It’s not as easy but there’s replacement sticks coming and there’s tutorials on YT on how to do it.
Yea they changed the design so that it’s much easier to replace (screwed on instead of soldered)
Wait, so if a button or joystick doesn’t work, the whole thing needs to be replaced? You can’t just repair the piece that is not working?
The truth about the playstation portal is that it's a complete waste of money, and shouldn't be purchased in any capacity at all.
I prefer people have a choice so it's good to have PS Portal on the market. Initial stocks were sold out quickly and this device is only possible to buy with increased price at the moment. This shows there is a market for it. I'll not buy it as I don't need it but I don't mind other people enjoying it.
sold out.
The only reason I’m interested is so I can play while in bed or on the lounge, instead of sitting at my computer desk with monitor. Haven’t heard anything good about online/multiplayer though so I’m unsure wether I’m going to purchase or not.
Will my play station portal work if my ps5 is in California and I’m in Arizona
They should make a modern psp, not this tinpot controller with pixels
This video was super helpful! but i have a question, what if someone plays the Playstation portal while another person is playing on the same PS5 but in a different account on a tv?
You can literally get a backbone for $100 and do the same thing with your phone. That’s what I do and it works fantastic.
Playing PS5 games with backbone sucks. You loose the dual sense controller features and you don't get a beautiful 8inch screen .
not on my shitty 6 inch screen no the backbone + phone sucks. I use it for mobile gaming instead.
What is the relavence of switching out game discs, isn't that going to happen if you have this or not? thanks!
Most suckers realized the truth the day they got it
So for the people that have had it for a while now is stick drift a problem? Thinking about getting one
Can I play on portal while ps5 on rest mode? Or it must be fully on?
While on rest mode
So does the portal run on the exact same hardware as my iPhone 15 pro max using the remote play app? Or does it have some different internals that help be a bit more like a switch even though I know it only runs on WiFi and streams the games!
Can you play on the portal and also use the PlayStation console at the same time to stream movies ?
So as a truck driver always bored in my truck this isn’t equivalent to having a system or worth the purchase?
So once you get done streaming your game to the device. You are not allowed to play it.. say like at work on your lunch break or you need to be having hotspot to log on
Premium price tag? While other hand helds are 5 to 6 hundos
Other hand helds do more than just stream a ps5. Plus you need to own a ps5 so 500 for a ps5 plus 200 for a glorified remote play app. Legion go is literally a hand held pc.
@@ProjectFraz exactly so 200 buks is not high priced. It good for what you getting
What if you don't have a ps5 😢 can you still play with it by getting other games on it
Saying cheap headphones because they have to plug in is sooooo naïve. The best headphones, the most expensive headphones have to be plugged in.
So what exactly is the difference between this and just playing via remote play on your phone with a ps5 controller?
So does that mean in theoretical terms of course that someone could log onto their account and leave yours signed in on the ps5 and still be signed on the portal as well ?
so is this supposed to run better than like a Mac/iPad/tablet etc running remote play? or is this just basically that but as a Sony product
Question if someone is playing on the handheld can the system be used to play a different game at the same time?
I did all these steps but when I turn my ps5 off my portal disconnects and I cant use it anymore till I turn it back on. I did the settings right aswell
