  • Hello everyone,
enjoy my reaction on "Shob Lokey Koy" performed by Kaniz Khandaker Mitu X Murshidabadi, which is part of Coke Studio Bangla season 1.
Find the original video here: • Shob Lokey Koy | Coke ...

    - no politics

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
    Where are you from?
    - I am from Germany, born and raised. A couple of years ago I relocated to Australia and been living there ever since.
Can you understand Urdu and Hindi?
    - I sadly can’t understand both languages fully, neither can I speak them. However I am able to understand a few words and certain phrases.
Why haven’t you reacted to my recommendation yet?
    - Every day I receive countless recommendations from you guys, which I am grateful for. I am trying to read all the comments but it does happen that I miss some out. The main factor is probably my working schedule which doesn’t allow me to film videos daily. Most weeks I can only find a couple of hours in the afternoon to film 2-3 videos. Of course I’d love to film more and film all of your recommendations, however I’m trying to stick with 1 or 2 uploaded videos a week. Quality over quantity.
    Are you religious?
    - I am not.

The massage is the most important part of this song.
The artists believe in the massage, so this song become so beautiful. they 2 are not commercial artist.
The fusion of lalon music and kabira das is great.
Lalon is asking what is religion? What does it looks like?
In reply the other reply the source of water is same but we put it in various kind of pot and label it in difference name.
In today's world it's so relevant but it's a very old massage of old bangla now Bangladesh.
These saints teaches us tolerance. Accept the others.
In Another song in VOBER PAGOL" Do not tell mad. Look at your inside you are a mad too.The world can't run without mad. Madness is everywhere."
    The same vibe is spreader.
    Great Job Arnob.
Respect Coke studio bangla to warp the song with great music.

Sorry to say This may rape original Lalon song and emotion of Lalon & his soul greatness, Lalon's philosophy of humanity rejects all distinctions of caste, class, and creed and takes stand against theological conflicts and racism. No need to fusion of his soul, philosophy, spiritual meaning.

Everyone ask Lalon (17th Century poet and philosopher of Bangla region); which caste or religion do you belong to? He ask them back - "how does a caste look? I was born without a caste". Kabir Das (14th Century poet of Uttar Pradesh) the other poet wrote water in different pot is still nothing but water. Key message is universal humanity without any form of man made discrimination.

Lalon is the complete manifestation of humanity. He was born a Hindu , but one day he took water from a Muslim women during a pilgrimage. And then his family and society cast him out. That's what the song is about. When asked what his religion is, he said that he doesn't differ people by religion. If drinking water from another human being is a crime, then his religion is humanity.

In short, Lalon was by birth a hindu... In his adult life he got very sick...his family member thought he was dead, he was taken to the shoshan, the place where dead bodies were cremated, he was the process started, but due to thunderstorm they left halfway, but he was alive, he went to siraj Shai, another spiritual guru , after staying there for several year went back home, family and society members including wife was astonished, didn't believe he was alive, most importantly refused to take him back in cast /society/religion, he started walking, took refuge in a deserted place, away from society, and started spreading his learning from his spiritual guru shiraj Shai....... Wrote thousands of song about humanity, and how hindu and Muslim is not important, being human is important,

Lalon is the most popular song writer since his era. He was preacher of humanism. This song was about we people of the world have no differences.
We are human before being only. Our religious, ethnic identity is minor.
Some people asked Lalon what was his religious identity?
Lalon answer by singing this song.
He said - He didn’t found any sing of religious identity which can divide him from other human of the world. Some wear hindu religious dress, some wear Muslim dress. That doesn’t make a people different from each other. We born and die as human. So lalon left his so called religious identity and He is proud to be a human only. He don’t want to divide human from religious and ethnic orientation.
Lalon is very Very famous and he has a great influence on Bengali people since his era.
    Love you from Bangladesh. ❤️❤️

Meaning of the first few lines,,, everybody asks what is the religion of Lalon. Lalon says where is the mark of religion when you come (are born) and when you leave (die). Someone pulls the Mala bead-string ( Hindus), someone calls it tasbih (Muslim). But what's the difference....... What's the point.......
The kabirs part is like, a well only gives water, you pull that water out and keep it in different jars and name it differently, but, it's all water, it's all human, you are just branding it differently.....
Importantly Both of them were illiterate, didn't know about each other.... Great man think alike........ (sorry for the long comment)

Both of the songs highlights and celebrates the essential humanity of all of us, despite the superficial religious, ideological, racial, ethnic, class or caste differences.
*#* _It's a mashup of two songs by two different songwriters from two ends of this subcontinent belonging to two different ethnic & language-communities and of two different era!!! One is Kabir Das, a 15th century mystic humanist poet and saint, born in present day Uttar Pradesh, India, writing in vernacular Hindi. The other is Lalon Fakir, a 19th century Bengali humanist thinker-philosopher mystic poet, songwriter, minstrel - born in present day Jhinaidah district, Bangladesh and writing in vernacular Bengali. Both of these gentlemen have very similar life-background or backstory and also developed a very similar kind of philosophy in many respects. Both of them were highly spiritually -inclined yet against organized religion, especially against the religious bigotry and its exclusivist, chauvinistic, belligerent, discriminatory or divisive aspects. They promoted humanism, reason, love, kindness, compassion, inclusivity and a shared sense of humanity and reality across class, caste, religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, country, gender and all other shapes or forms of divisions. As far as I can understand, although none of them were enthusiastic about organized religions, none of them were stark atheists or materialists either. They were secular humanists, even perhaps agnostic (at least, seems to be, in Lalon's case), yet steeped in a deep sense of very non-dogmatic and syncretic mystic spirituality. A very idiosyncratic combination or fusion!_
*##* By the way, the phrase in English translation in the subtitles of this video: _"Religious identity "_ is a very narrow translation of the original Bengali word in the original Bengali lyrics, _almost_ (not quite though) to the point of being erroneous. The original Bengali word is *"Jaat"* - which has somewhat related yet manifold meanings used in multifarious contexts as necessary. The main meaning refers to *"caste" in the "Caste System" in Hinduism, not to "Religious identity" exclusively or even primarily.* But it does have a lot of other meanings or senses, e.g. social class or status, caste, race, ethnicity, nationality, country, gender, skin color, various classifications or groupings inspired by religion or culture, etc etc. _Lalon Fakir in this song of his actually uses this word ( _*_"Jaat"_*_ ) in its multifarious meanings and senses, not just "religious identity" - as evident in the entirety of the song in Bangla!!_ So, limiting, constraining or diluting the full meaning of the original word to only one - by translating it as _"Religious Identity" only_ is tantamount to a serious mistranslation, I would contend!!!

To his last breath of life, Fakir Lalon Shai (1774-1890) preached humanity over religion. He composed and sang thousands of songs on the concepts of humanity, the inner meaning of life, and finding the true God. Lalon thought that God keeps Himself hidden as the soul inside the human body. He was a true philosopher and left hundreds of thousands of followers and baauls (philosophers through music).

Just for your clarification, most Bengal Baul songs are philosophy........... so Lalon was a philosopher from Bengal (late 18th century) ... and Bauls tend to put their names in their philosophies (baul song... like Lalon says, Abdul Karim says... etc.)
