What's getting me is that surely what everyone is complaining about is part of the reason why Terios was scrapped as a design right? Either he has the large Sonic-like quills and then he looks like an edgy Sonic knock-off, or with the design we see with the droopier quills he doesn't look enough like Sonic to let the plot make sense. Shadow's design works because you can see how he resembles Sonic, but still has enough of his own identity to stand on his own.
In my opinion terios simply looks cool. But I will say that the droopy emo style quills are a bit difficult to get used to. Because it looks like sonics face with knuckles hair style. But with a more dark and edgy overall look obviously.

@@ThemightyTelevision That design looked dreadful on the sheet of paper, all mods that ever existed of him as a skin sucked. It's a design that will never work without revisions. The fact that's it's in its raw state in the game as an unlockable is a cool homage to the prototype ideas when creating the protagonist of the upcoming game in question. It doesn't have to be anything more than that, if anything changing it would defeat the whole purpose of it. Those color palettes and overall design will simply never look nice.

the problem is the promotional art doesnt give a good perspective and depth on the quills so we couldnt give much criticism back then. sonics head tends to look different facing forward and sonic has been show to look exactly like the promotional artwork before. also terios being in the game in the first place is purely for superfans that even know about him and then not using *any* of the shown terios artwork for his hair is just strange and kinda defeats the point of having him now.
Also notice NOBODY said anything when the original render of Terios came out, because it DOES look like the artwork. People only started saying something when in gameplay it didnt look like how they saw it in their own heads.

Honestly my bigger takeaway was: "Why do his quill look like Knuckles' dreads?" Looking at all the Terios concept art in the earlier phases, his quills may have drooped while front-facing, but his quills were always shaped like Adventure Sonic's quills in the artstyle. I imagine Sega did have the entirety of the concept sheets (And even if not, they're all available with literally just one wiki search of Shadow away), so it does make me curious if they only looked at the front-facing stuff. That aside, I'm not really that pressed, I was mostly interested in the Movie skins, anyway
Even with the quills going down, I'd much more believe SA2's plot of the Government confusing Terios with Sonic vs the confusing Shadow with Sonic. Sonic and Shadow look very different at a distance, but Terios at least is a little bit more "Blue" where i could see the confusion.
That's a good way of describing Shadow. Terios looks like someone's edgy OC recolor, while Shadow's final design is elegant. Terios's design reminds us of what we could have ended up with and makes me appreciate Shadow's design even more.

I dislike how people are STILL managing to complain when we get a game as good as this. Who cares if you think Terios doesnt look good, it was a scrapped design anyways, otherwise it wouldve been Shadow's final design. "Oh no Rouge's pillows have been covered up more and her back isnt being shown anymore" I dont think this should matter, yeah sure it might be a little uneccessary but such a small detail shouldn't matter, we've had changes to Sonic's quills all the time and no one seems to complain about that. We also have major things like voice actors changing and yet people still have the nerve to complain about the smaller details MORE. (Granted I really like all the new voices for the Sonic cast, they did a great job). "But if we let small changes like this slip by then Sega will feel like they can make bigger changes without any backlash/downsides" Right, so the company that has been trying to get Sonic back on track for years, finally hits TWO successful games that the fans REALLY enjoyed are going to try making huge changes because a simple unnecessary design choice was made or the fact that they aren't getting enough hate for a BETA design of Shadow put as dlc, is going to drastically make big changes to the Sonic franchise. Sonic Team KNOWS what mistakes can be made with these changes, 06 had a great characterisation im not gonna lie but because of Sonic kissing a human its reputation got absolutely bombarded with mockery and hate. Remember the Sonic Movie first design? They redesigned that because they saw our response to his design and fixed it to create something far more amazing! They will listen to us if we think something doesnt work or isnt the best. They aren't going to straight up redesign an entire character unless a new character has a horrible design, but if that was the case then they wouldnt be in the game. We are at an all time high with the Sonic franchise right now, Shadow Generations straight up getting 9's and 8's galore by IGN and others, and its level design being the best in the entire franchise, I think that people who are complaining about the little things need to appreciate the game we have been given a lot more if they aren't already. I dont think Sonic Team will be willing to let this streak of phenomenal video games fall any time soon because they know the direction they need to go to with the Sonic franchise moving forward. Have a little more faith because we are so back.

The biggest issue here is that The devs who created that terios model have had no contact with the original artist for feedback. they traced the designs from a sketch with one angle and no depth. There are multiple extra official sketches of terios from another angle that show sonic's style of quills! You dont come far with only one image! Not to mention you actually have to pay for terios! If he was free i would have been silent. But i actually paid for him expecting him to look like the original concept artwork, which has him depicted multiple times from multiple angles to make depth clear to the modelling team.
If it's not bashing Sonic games it either them complaing about a fictional hedgehog's quills. When Frontiers wasn't even out they had a fit that it used the Forces model.

Haven't seen the video but I think I understand why people don't like it. It's cuz people expected him to have Sonic-type quills or At least make them stick out more at the back instead of it being straight down like Knuckles'. His little chart with the sonic-shadow-terios comparison is a bit off in the running part based on the way his quills flow, I’m expecting they would flow in the air like Knuckles’ and it would virtually look like Sonic’s since Sonic’s quills are more stiff. I could be wrong tho

People dont get this, Terios doesn't have a Final desing, if there is one is Shadow, The joke of the character is to look like sonic in front, like if sonic is looking at his reflection (terios= Reflection of 😨) Also, if i remember correctly, the one who did the terios desing was the one who directed his desing in SxSG (Also, the sonic look like desing is one of his first desing, that means is outdated and useless, since the terios that we got is his better desing since is the official one
I was surprised that the quills looked more similar to knuckles and thought they would make it look more like Sonic's quills baced on a popular 3d model where he had Sonic quills making him look more like Sonic. But seeing the official concept art I can understand why they were designed the way they choose. I don't care so much that it makes me disappointed, I still like the design and I'm fine with it.
To me this is a whatever situation. I would’ve preferred if his quills were out like Sonic’s, but I don’t mind him having Amy’s quill style. Simply put almost every piece of concept art for Terios has given him a different look, and that’s just the images we are made aware of. So ultimately they either went with a piece of concept art they liked or they decided to reimagine an element of the design. Ultimately it still gives off the look of Terios.

What people don’t seem to realize is that Terios never made it out of the concept art phase before being completely scrapped in favor of the Shadow design we all know and love. There isn’t a definitive design to Terios that we can go off of as there are multiple iterations. Some designs have him with quills more reminiscent of Sonic’s and others have his quills more more akin to Knuckles’ dreadlocks, and it just so happens that Sonic Team went with the latter for this game. For all we know there could be other iterations of Terios that we aren’t aware of.

In my opinion terios simply looks cool. But I will say that the droopy emo style quills are a bit difficult to get used to.
Because it looks like sonics face with knuckles hair style. But with a more dark and edgy overall look obviously.

@@ThemightyTelevision That design looked dreadful on the sheet of paper, all mods that ever existed of him as a skin sucked. It's a design that will never work without revisions. The fact that's it's in its raw state in the game as an unlockable is a cool homage to the prototype ideas when creating the protagonist of the upcoming game in question. It doesn't have to be anything more than that, if anything changing it would defeat the whole purpose of it. Those color palettes and overall design will simply never look nice.

the problem is the promotional art doesnt give a good perspective and depth on the quills so we couldnt give much criticism back then.
sonics head tends to look different facing forward and sonic has been show to look exactly like the promotional artwork before.
also terios being in the game in the first place is purely for superfans that even know about him and then not using *any* of the shown terios artwork for his hair is just strange and kinda defeats the point of having him now.

Honestly my bigger takeaway was:

Looking at all the Terios concept art in the earlier phases, his quills may have drooped while front-facing, but his quills were always shaped like Adventure Sonic's quills in the artstyle.
I imagine Sega did have the entirety of the concept sheets (And even if not, they're all available with literally just one wiki search of Shadow away), so it does make me curious if they only looked at the front-facing stuff.
That aside, I'm not really that pressed, I was mostly interested in the Movie skins, anyway
Even with the quills going down, I'd much more believe SA2's plot of the Government confusing Terios with Sonic vs the confusing Shadow with Sonic.
Sonic and Shadow look very different at a distance, but Terios at least is a little bit more "Blue" where i could see the confusion.
Also, maybe the quills could act like normal hair and flow when he runs?

That's a good way of describing Shadow. Terios looks like someone's edgy OC recolor, while Shadow's final design is elegant. Terios's design reminds us of what we could have ended up with and makes me appreciate Shadow's design even more.

I think it's neat that we're getting a prototype Shadow as a skin. These fake Sonic fans need to clam up.
I dislike how people are STILL managing to complain when we get a game as good as this. Who cares if you think Terios doesnt look good, it was a scrapped design anyways, otherwise it wouldve been Shadow's final design. "Oh no Rouge's pillows have been covered up more and her back isnt being shown anymore" I dont think this should matter, yeah sure it might be a little uneccessary but such a small detail shouldn't matter, we've had changes to Sonic's quills all the time and no one seems to complain about that. We also have major things like voice actors changing and yet people still have the nerve to complain about the smaller details MORE. (Granted I really like all the new voices for the Sonic cast, they did a great job). "But if we let small changes like this slip by then Sega will feel like they can make bigger changes without any backlash/downsides" Right, so the company that has been trying to get Sonic back on track for years, finally hits TWO successful games that the fans REALLY enjoyed are going to try making huge changes because a simple unnecessary design choice was made or the fact that they aren't getting enough hate for a BETA design of Shadow put as dlc, is going to drastically make big changes to the Sonic franchise. Sonic Team KNOWS what mistakes can be made with these changes, 06 had a great characterisation im not gonna lie but because of Sonic kissing a human its reputation got absolutely bombarded with mockery and hate. Remember the Sonic Movie first design? They redesigned that because they saw our response to his design and fixed it to create something far more amazing! They will listen to us if we think something doesnt work or isnt the best. They aren't going to straight up redesign an entire character unless a new character has a horrible design, but if that was the case then they wouldnt be in the game. We are at an all time high with the Sonic franchise right now, Shadow Generations straight up getting 9's and 8's galore by IGN and others, and its level design being the best in the entire franchise, I think that people who are complaining about the little things need to appreciate the game we have been given a lot more if they aren't already.
I dont think Sonic Team will be willing to let this streak of phenomenal video games fall any time soon because they know the direction they need to go to with the Sonic franchise moving forward. Have a little more faith because we are so back.

There are multiple extra official sketches of terios from another angle that show sonic's style of quills! You dont come far with only one image!

Haven't seen the video but I think I understand why people don't like it. It's cuz people expected him to have Sonic-type quills or At least make them stick out more at the back instead of it being straight down like Knuckles'.

why are people forgetting this is an anniversary game (Even if its a added on rerelease of one) so as such, is it really a stretch to include prototype designs as a fun skin gimmick even if yes, the design isnt as strong as what we got for the actual character? It's all just for fun and celebrating the series history and production, so an unused concept as an extra is not out of the question.

Terios in SXSG looks like Sonic, Shadow, and Knuckles did a three way fusion and became Shonkles or some amalgamation like that.
I was surprised that the quills looked more similar to knuckles and thought they would make it look more like Sonic's quills baced on a popular 3d model where he had Sonic quills making him look more like Sonic.
But seeing the official concept art I can understand why they were designed the way they choose. I don't care so much that it makes me disappointed, I still like the design and I'm fine with it.
People are just too used to those fanmade renders, he literally looks like that one concept art but in 3D.
To me this is a whatever situation. I would’ve preferred if his quills were out like Sonic’s, but I don’t mind him having Amy’s quill style.
Simply put almost every piece of concept art for Terios has given him a different look, and that’s just the images we are made aware of. So ultimately they either went with a piece of concept art they liked or they decided to reimagine an element of the design. Ultimately it still gives off the look of Terios.
They should've reworked Terios with another design, maybe to look more like sonic? I feel like his quills could be changed to look like the super sonic monument in sonic3 & knuckles, maybe his name could also be changed? I feel like a good name would be Shadow?

What people don’t seem to realize is that Terios never made it out of the concept art phase before being completely scrapped in favor of the Shadow design we all know and love. There isn’t a definitive design to Terios that we can go off of as there are multiple iterations. Some designs have him with quills more reminiscent of Sonic’s and others have his quills more more akin to Knuckles’ dreadlocks, and it just so happens that Sonic Team went with the latter for this game. For all we know there could be other iterations of Terios that we aren’t aware of.
