The only real mystery is why it took so long to happen. Jones was under the influence of some kind of drugs or Booze pretty much all the time and he passed out many times a day. He used his pool a lot, according to people who were often there

At 27 Jones looked like he was 60 at the Rock and Roll Circus. It was no trouble to see that he was at death's door.
