I didn’t even notice the shadowing until you took the reflector down; I am thankful for this video as what you say lines up with what you are showing me, which is how I learn!
DSLR Video Shooter I understand and it was informative and didn't drag on and on like some other videos I've seen if I see anyone with questions will send them your way
I often forget that was one of first accessories I bought, need to start using it for bounce, diffuser and negative fill, one great use is in daylight for music videos
Great vid. Also.... use the black as negative fill to increase contrast in otherwise flat lighting. Use the diffusion to reduce the effect of a sunny backlight, while using the white as a super soft return. Avoid using the gold for a hard sun return, instead, use it to return a little warmth in a north light situation, to help balance out light temp on skin tones. Get two, they're absolute essentials, and practice folding them so you don't look like a newbie wedding assistant. 4:44.... that's some creepy reflector love!
Solid mentions. The gold also balances the cold cloudy sky light, or heavy tree shade green, and can add a slight warmth to reflected LED light to give a candlelight or firelight effect.
Great info Caleb. I rarely think about negative fill and it's easy to think "okay, that looks well lit". There's so much more character we can add to our lighting if we give it a bit of thought so thanks for mentioning it. Cheers!
Hey man! Why did you breeze over the gold and silver reflectors? That was the whole reason I watched this. I wanted to know the best uses for those two. You did a great job describing the other 3 uses. Still a good video and you get a thumbs up.
Hey Caleb, great info as always, I also really liked the way you added informational overlays of prices on your $500 light tutorial in the upper left corner. I would love to see more informational overlays throughout your videos, I found them quite useful! Thanks for what you do!
Thanks Drew! I've been trying to avoid that as prices change and giving specific prices in text form can actually get you banned from certain affiliate programs/websites so thats not fun!
DSLR Video Shooter even without the prices it's a great visual tool for me. I'm in my mis 40's and even with my glasses I have a hard time reading what you used in your drop down on my eye-pad :) which is where I watch your videos. Thanks again & I'm loving your work!
I realize this video was from a couple years ago, but it was helpful to someone who's new to this. Thank you. I do have a question though: the Impact Holder above looks great, but I'm not sure what kind of stand should be purchased for it to mount on. Can you offer any recommendations?

வீடியோ மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருந்தது மிக்க நன்றி 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 இரா.மனோகர் சென்னை . Very useful video sir, I learned lot from it, looking forward more videos like this keep it up good work, thanks a lot sir big thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 R.MANOHAR Chennai.
This is the 43-inch reflector. Amazon is showing now in 2019 a “new” version of 32”. My question: 32” or 43” for regular videography, events, outdoors, etc.? Please advise.🙏
Normally I don't comment on any video.. but thanks a lot for your channel man, you totally rock!!! You put somuch effort into thiss just for us! Thanks a lot, it should be a lot of work to do. Respect sir! Keep it up please :-)
Thanks for the video. There is also oval shape of this reflectors. Do you know which one is more useful, oval or circle? Is there any advantage of using any of them?
Any suggestions on how to hook in a reflector to a light stand (I have Manfrotto with the spigot on top usually used for lights) - something I can clip it to as a one man band instead of hiring a 2nd person just to hold it - I purchased a 5-in-1 which i thought had a 1/4" screw in the handle but it was falsely advertised, otherwise I'd be able to just screw it into the spigot.
Great video! Thank you! One question: if you use the diffusor from this kit, you cant use reflectors because the reflector get the rigidity from the metal ring of the diffusor. Am I right?
I appreciate you standing in the middle of the living room filming yourself while looking directly at the camera and repeatedly lifting up a black reflector to the side of your face. You must have looked like an insane person to anyone watching.
Hey Caleb, love your videos and enjoy gaining so much knowledge from them. I wanted to ask a question knowing it's off topic with regards to this video. However I wanted to ask you a question pertaining to vintage lenses and adapters. I have the Panasonic G85 and I have a few vintage lenses - some with a Pentax K mount and others with a Canon FD mount. I want to buy the Zhongyi lens turbo II focal reducer however do not want to buy 2 of them as they aren't cheap. What do you suggest so that I can use both lens mounts with the focal reducer??? Thank you in advance.
quick question, I'm taking tshirt pictures with my phone, but even with 2 softboxes, the plain white shirt is a darker gray in some area. Do I only do it in a dark room with no light coming in or is it because the phone's camera makes it dark and I should use a DSLR instead? thank you so much (:
Why are all reflectors manufactured to have ether black and silver or white and gold (once you turn it inside out)? I'd rather have black and white or silver and gold as possible front and back sides. Does anyone know brands where it is manufactured in that combination?
One thing I don't understand is why most DPs don't use the black side of the 5 in 1 reflector as a cheap and effective flag??? The official flagging stuff is unreasonable expensive yet it's cheaper to just get a few stands and 5 in 1 reflectors? Help me out, Caleb.
The thing preventing me from buying these is that I only need white and maybe black. I don't need gold reflectors, silver reflectors, I just need diffusion. It's frustrating that I can't buy these separately.
Holy crappppp. I havent wat hed you in some time and im sorry if im cruel but jesus...lost se hair there and got a bit bloated didnt you? But anyway...good vid as i remember yours always being
Great vide but Id still say your lighting doesnt look great. Your skin looks red and overall you look dark, with the side of your head being a shadow as well
If you're a beginner filmmaker, stop asking about which camera is best and MEMORIZE these tips!
Which camera is best though
I didn’t even notice the shadowing until you took the reflector down; I am thankful for this video as what you say lines up with what you are showing me, which is how I learn!
Many time I put the scrim of the reflector in front of a window. Amazing Quality! Both direct sunlight or overcast light look great!
Great points! So many uses for such a cheap piece of gear!
You are the best! My favorite channel on all UA-cam! Cheers from a photographer in Japan!
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the content!
DSLR Video Shooter I have learned a lot about video from you!
I knew all this but still found it super entertaining to watch but great for beginners
Thanks Notorius! Trying to cover all the bases and lets me send questioners here for more 5 in 1 info. Glad you're enjoying the videos.

Prior to purchasing a reflector I understood what you said to some extent but now that I have one, I understand what you said 100%. Very good buy!
Great vid.

Thanks! Yeah I think negative fill is pretty underrated. Great tool!
Soooooo many new vids currently. You really have upped your game Caleb. Well done, keep it up.
Thanks! Catching up on my backlog so I can get some new stuff out! Hoping to keep 2 videos and a livestream going each week. We shall see!
You've been killing it
My film professor sent me here. Excellent explanation. Cheers!
Awesome timing! I just picked up one of these and didn't realize I could use it in so many ways.
Keep up the great work!
Trail Features The Swiss Army knife of lighting gear
I have two 5 in 1s but have not used them much; I will now! Thanks!
Such a versatile tool. Great video Caleb!!!
Thanks Noah!

I should have covered those more. Something I missed was using them with a bright backlight.
They Basically does the same with white side it's just a bounce Carr but with more intensities. White always looks softer and a nice color to it
Very good info. I've had one forever, I just mainly don't use it because I don't have the space for it and a stand and etc :/ #smallstudioproblems
Thanks for this vid Caleb, my first 5 in 1 arrives in a couple of days and the head start in ideas to make use of it is appreciated
I can't tell if you have a video about everything I google or if google just knows you have the best information.

Pretty bad ass though and smooth
Awesome video man! Keep it up!
I bought a 5-in-1 a while back and this totally helps! My problem is I can never find the space to put them up. :)
I hear ya! The big ones can be a handful.
They can!
Helpful and informative! Thank you so much!
omg. 03:39 best video showing the effects of the black "reflector" on yt. Thanks!!
You rock, Caleb!

Man your videos are such high quality, I should've subscribed a long time ago!
Awesome! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing mate,
GREAT VIDEO!!! Thank you
Subscribed.
very great info, thank you
Great video, I learned a lot.
I have one of those but i havent used it much yet. I need to get a lightsource so that i have have a light to modify😁
Nice! Wildly useful tool!
The yongnuo YN216 is a great one for that (according to Caleb 😂😂)
You can also use to bounce natural light to even it out
Thanks C didnt even think about the negative fill yet..!
Thanks for the video. There is also oval shape of this reflectors. Do you know which one is more useful, oval or circle? Is there any advantage of using any of them?
The oval ones will add more of an oval light

Amazing skin tone!!! How???
So I have this Impact Reflector Holder now but found out I still need to buy a stand. Any recommendation? Not looking for really expensive gears.
Helpful info thank you ....

You kinda look like Lewis from Unbox Therapy in the thumbnail.
❤
Is this going to make my skin look less blotchy? I don't know why but lately my face is looking very...textured
You're gonna give me nightmares with that look you were doing when you were showing the negative fill 😨😱😱lol
I'm gona spill all the light!
The thing preventing me from buying these is that I only need white and maybe black. I don't need gold reflectors, silver reflectors, I just need diffusion. It's frustrating that I can't buy these separately.
Ethan from H3 at 4:00.
*reads video title:* Wouldn't that make it a 6 in 1 reflector?
Great video as always, Caleb, but you definitely have to shave!
More like 5+1 reflector, amirite, guys?!
DroiMedia RIGHT. Lol
Holy crappppp. I havent wat hed you in some time and im sorry if im cruel but jesus...lost se hair there and got a bit bloated didnt you? But anyway...good vid as i remember yours always being

Great vide but Id still say your lighting doesnt look great. Your skin looks red and overall you look dark, with the side of your head being a shadow as well
I got my reflector from full sail University launch box for digital cinematography I'm excited to start using it thanks for the info.
Great content. Thank you
