  • The latest Inside Out 2 trailer dropped a few days ago, and I'm getting really excited for this film. We get a look at the new emotions and a small sneak peek at the plot, and I'll be honest my initial reaction was one of annoyance. I've been spoiled by having trailers essentially be a condensed version of the movie, until I realised that I actually hate that and this is much better. Anyway, here's my ramblings on the trailer. Enjoy.

I think the new emotions aren't present in the adult characters is because of their generation being told to suppress those emotions. Whilst the new generation, Riley's, is going to find the harmony of not letting those emotions take full control but still let them be a part of her.

I mean, why does Riley *need* Fear and Sadness, for example? Can't the other guys handle it? They have their own emotions too. As for Joy, she's a control freak so she doesn't really fit into this all that much, but you get the idea.

I can be wrong till the movie comes out but based on the first film. I assume Riley lived in a somewhat populated area in San Francisco (despite living in a smallish house since in the inside out 2 trailer its the same house) I am not surprised that the audience is packed (since like you said assuming some of the audience members are the parents on both teams) plus since sports are pretty popular (despite hockey is the least popular here in the states) I'm not surprised even though it's a youth game.

But I sort warming up to some of the metaphor jokes like bottling up your emotions that is charming to fair, can’t say the same for the sar-chasm that joke i really didn’t find funny.
Tho i will say how the movie will set into action is bit ridiculous with the new emotions calling the original crew emotions too basic when in the first film they clearly show the emotions working together to create combined reactions and the new emotion can’t merge and so are literally one trick pony’s. That I find dumb But if theres one thing that could really sell it for me is that anxiety becomes so over bearing that she one by one kicks out her other emotion friends to achieve the goal of planned future that for me would be cool.

Making these specific emotions their own characters works for the subject matter and for simplicity sake. Sure they are specific feelings but they are relatable feelings at this age. Shame and Anticipation are a cool concept but it would make things a little confusing at times for the audience
Also yes, the main 5 ARE basic feelings. These newer emotions are more complex in the sense they are more thought heavy and introspective feelings. The basic 5 are purely reactionary and inevitable feelings to situations, and these newer episodes are reactions to the actions of the emotions and to more social and complex situations and wanting to mask or even suppress the oldies due to how purely reactionary and in the moment they tend to be compared to the newbies. Sure emotions can blend and mix bit I believe it's supposed to represent mixed experiences rather than making new feelings in general
Also the idea of Anxiety pushes away all emotions would contradict what she and the newbies represent. Anxiety along with the others are common feelings around this age, the anxious desire to seem cool and appealing, embarrassment when we aren't, envy towards others who seem better off or more put together and a new found disinterest and disengagement with most things in the world with ennui. You know, the common TEENAGE experience

@@afroling2096 Envy is objectively an emotion. Yes it's a desire but it's a painful experience as an emotion. And envy is not inherently toxic. An emotion only ever becomes toxic if u let it fester or if it overbears other feelings. Envy is just a simple desire to aspire to attain or be as good as whom they envy, but if it's not admitted to or if one feels like they can't attain or achieve similar status, feelings of bitterness and resentment can form and a desire to bring the other down is formed. That's when envy becomes self destructive. People often associate envy with its more toxic aspects because most pop culture and perception only see the negatives of it. Not saying these toxic aspects don't exist but they don't just spawn out of a vacuum, multiple factors come into play. By this logic ANY emotion can be toxic if u only see the negatives of it

@@justafellow2765 Bro relax, your getting worked up over a movie about coloured people in a mind and i can text to explain my self.
This post is 3 weeks old (much like the last one you posed on) and since then my opinion has changed a tad bit, I may have over hyped how toxic envy and how it can be a good thing but i also can’t ignore the things it’s capable of doing much like anger. As I'm defiantly aware there is no evil character in the first film and same goes for this one. Unless they decide to make a inner daemon chapter which could be dope.
Sadly my opinion on the emotions are the same at the moment. I still think fear did a good job representing anxiety especially with the school scene in the first film as he names every possible out come that could happen at school all of them being imaginary expect for one.
And In my opinion ennui/boredom is more of a mental sate over a full blown emotion since it’s pretty much a lack of interest, stimuli and concern. And for the memories in the first film the mention that if a memory Riley doesn’t care about fade and so since ennui is literally lack of concern, interest and stimuli It would fade extremely fast, tho i would imagine she probably wouldn’t care.
And the depression scene from the first film also had Riley looking pretty bored on the bus.
And yes I would still say shame over embarrassment.
I think the main issue I have with these guys is that the first film didn’t consider such a thing and especially with it’s ending with emotions coming together and working with each other to produce new emotion. And so now this just seems pretty jarring to me but who knows it may be good and I’m being humbug, it’s just that i feel that the first film was neatly tied bow and now they are making odd decisions. But who knows until it’s realised.

Fair and valid points and opinions, pretty much my thoughts exactly.
Personally, I’ll say this Trailer gave us a pretty good idea of what we could expect from this Movie,
So, they decided to go with the “New Emotions trying to take over for all of the Old Emotions” Route, sort of, huh? I am pretty certain that some people have theorized about that being the case, at some point.
Anyway, I am also pretty certain that this Plot could be viewed as being pretty similar to the Plot of the First Movie, at least on a surface level, but I’d say the finer details beneath have enough differences to make it work,
    Like for example:
Rather than just having two Emotions having to go on an adventure through out Riley’s mind, we now have all Five of the Original Emotions having to go on a journey, two of which who have experience in going through the Place, while the other Three probably doesn’t, a fact that could potentially lead into some pretty interesting and funny experiences on it’s own.
Also, the reason why the Emotions even ended up in the situation that they were in in the First Movie was entirely due to a freak accident, while here it’s due too the New more inexperienced Emotions trying take over by pretty much overthrowing the Old Emotions, bottling them up somewhere.
On top of that, in the First Movie we just had the original core Emotions getting split up, with two out in the World and three remaining at the Center, now we have entirely New Emotions trying to run the Center by themselves, where we could see how well that goes and whether or not they realize that they’ve made a great mistake,
Although, I say the New Emotions and they, but wouldn’t it be funny if Ennui was the only one out of New Emotions who figured(/knew) that kicking out the Old more experienced Emotions might be a bad idea, but didn’t say anything due to how unmotivated they seem to be?
Heck, even the motivations and the reasoning behind said motivations I’d say is a bit different from the First Movie too,
In the First Film, the Emotions at Brain-Center pretty much just tried to run things by themselves because they didn’t know what else to do and the Emotions outside just wanted to go back because they just naturally knew they needed to,
While in this Film on the other hand, the Emotions at the Brain-Center tries to run things by themselves because they think they know how to handle a Teenage Riley better and the Emotions outside wants to go back pretty much for same reasons as in the First, but with an added bonus,
‘Cause I think the New Emotions might not know everything that happened before their arrival, so they wouldn’t know that something similar to what they’ve done has happened before,
But the Old Emotions knows, they have experienced just how bad things can go when Riley doesn’t have all of her Emotions present and working together, so they will not try to get back just because they feel like they have to, but also because they know what could happen if they don’t.
So, all in all, while the Plot is pretty simple, I’ve heard that even a pretty Simple Plot, that might even redo something similar to it’s predecessor, can still turn out quite good, as long as it’s been done well enough, I hope this Movie still does good despite it all.
Now, the only Question left is, how will everything be lined up in this Movie? When will every moment happen and in what order will it happen? What do you think?

Maybe the "teenage emotions" do remain as emotions even when Riley (or anyone) grows up, but with emotionally healthy adults, these emotions don't reside in the Headquarters but rather just pop in on need? Because having any of those emotions non-stop isn't healthy, but they are helpful on need. Maybe the original five are base emotions that need to be present anyway for base survival, and the "sophisticated" emotions come up when there is a specialized need.
Person: "Why I need bad when I look at my colleague's new car?"
Envy: (appears) "Shiiiiiny new car! They have this shiny new car! How can I have shiny new car?"
Anger, also presenting determination: "Unfair! That colleague isn't any better working than I am, and they still can afford this car! It's because my salary raise is on due! I need to bring it up to my boss. Then I can have a shiny new car, too!"
Envy: "k we have a plan now, you keep it going! (Tho can I still keep coming so I can admire the colleague's shiny new car?)"

    • @matleenamyntti3436
      @matleenamyntti3436 3 місяці тому

I'm btw also in the camp of "healthy Envy". No emotion is healthy if it is non-stop, and there are also varying ways to cope emotions. Envy gets bad rapport as a pure evil emotion by media, but in its core, Envy is just "someone has something I want to have, too!" Envy can then produce counterproductive actions like sabotaging other people or unfairly taking things, but healthy Envy can actually be a starting drive for improving oneself or getting new things. "I want to have a pretty hair, too! How can I have a pretty hair? I need to do research!" Or if there is unfairness present, Envy also helps signaling that tandeming with Anger.

I'm certain the antagonism of the new emotions would be more of a misunderstanding, since, y'know, it wouldn't be a good message to show that feeling these emotions are bad, it'll go entirely againts the message of the first movie

I think the new emotions aren’t in the adults because they don’t gotta be right now, you find the main ones in your everyday life, like In; food or someone stepping on the back of your shoe. But it’s not everyday I want someone else’s toy, or im bored to point of extinction

I was kind of disappointed they seemed to be repeating the same beats. Anxiety is doing with the main five emotions what Joy did with Sadness, oppressing them. We see Riley move on from old friends to the new, like her old friend in the first movie did. Then, the five main emotions are put on a similar journey Joy and Sadness did when they were sent to the rest of the mind. I get, as we move from childhood to teenage hood, what's happening to Riley is accurate - Peer pressure, hormones, etc - but what's going on with this story is that it feels like a retread so far, to me. Don't get me wrong, it looks like it'll be an entertaining ride, I just hope it'll feel like a sequel that progresses from the first film. I really hope that the discussion on Riley's adoption happens between her and her parents as she's at the age school starts teaching about sex and abortion (there's a theory she's adopted due to her having different hair and eye colour from mum and dad).

I don't agree with the idea, but children can look different from their parents, by genetics, she could have genetics from her grandparents that her parents have.

I was always looking forward to Inside Out 2, more than any other 2024 film, and this new trailer only strengthened that! I was wondering whether they might have most of the film just set in Headquarters to avoid repetitiveness, though that felt a bit implausible, it's quite small after all, but they're basically doing the opposite and having all five of the original emotions get booted out, not just two, which I think is a great way to broaden the scale of this film, even if it feels similar to its predecessor; I agree that any similarities will end up being superficial.
I don't want to say the animation in the first film looks bad, because it doesn't, but you can really tell how much Pixar continue to improve when seeing clips from both films consecutively. I noticed the added detail of Riley having acne too; it's something you don't really see in animation but the big budget of a cinematic release clearly allows them such luxuries. I noticed Ennui seems to use the console from the sofa, probably via her phone, which I think is a very clever idea. She's definitely my favourite of the new emotions, maybe besides Anxiety. They could have made her grey to make her look less like Fear, but she looks different enough. She looks very flexible, so she can just droop onto whatever whenever she wants to (which is probably always), her long hair suggests a disregard for cutting it and her French accent reflects the fact that "ennui", while technically a word used in the English language, is borrowed from French (she's voiced by Adèle Exarchopoulos, who, incidentally, I read voiced Ember in the French dub of Elemental). And Envy and Embarrassment look cute, especially Embarrassment; I love his hoodie. :3
I'm very, very excited for Inside Out 2. It still kind of feels unreal that a film that's been so special to me since it came out is getting a sequel and I'm so glad that the general public seems to share my positivity. Though it seems that the disdain for sequels only seems to be being targeted at WDAS, really. I'm still excited for Moana and Zootopia 2, personally, and even Frozen III... and IV. Anyway, I'm ver intrigued to see how things go with Inside Out 2, not just in terms of the film itself but the reception to it, both critical and commercial, because, speaking of those other sequels, this is going to kick off Disney's new wave of animated sequels, with Moana 2 coming out not long after. Given the fact that the teaser trailer for Inside Out 2 broke the record Frozen II, of all movies, set, becoming the most viewed trailer for a Disney animated movie within whatever amount of time it was, I wouldn't worry just yet. There's still three months to go so maybe they could release just one more trailer in a month and a half or so but Elemental did well enough (this will definitely do better). And even though it's too early to say anything about the 2025 awards season for most categories, I think Inside Out 2 will do very well in Best Animated Feature awards unless something surprising comes out of the blue. So yeah. Hype. :3

Riley's mum's emotions are all female, and her dad's are all male, but Riley's own emotions are a mix of male and female. Does this mean she's bi-sexual? Just wondering!
