Deverill was a great singer, saw them on the Spellbound tour with Sykes and he used an SG and his Les Paul custom at the time. i can't remember any of the songs because it was just too loud, it was a tiny club called The Rock Garden and i saw Saxon the next week there and that was ear melting as well. Great cover and the sound was nailed.
Ah, yeah I thought I had seen Sykes pictured with an SG. Looked strange! I still like this album, but I get that it was way more commercial and clean sounding than the earlier stuff. Better than the Wreckage tho!
I still like it these days too - I guess a very commercial sounding release compared to the rest of the back catalog, but good none the less. Yeah, it's not often one would here "bread" used in a UK song in that fashion!
Dude! I just got a flashback to learning the guitar with my buddy back in the very early 80s. Had fun looking these guys up again today. Thanks for another fun video.
Hey , once again so cool to see those racords !!! Awsome play along Dunsy !! That tone of yours !!! Mate you ROCK !!! Hey the rythm riff reminds me of a Gallagher song at some parts ! Real cool riffages !!
@@DunsysGuitarWorld You couldn’t make it up! Looking forward to that :) I have my favourite Lizzy T-shirt at the ready - it’s Johnny The Fox but it’ll do. Love Black Rose - massive Gary Moore fan 👍
It was The Cage that got me into the Tygers when it was released and I went back from there … Funny that you mention the bonus “Storm-lands” disc - that was my favourite from the Crazy Nights release (!) - the album sounded a bit demo-ish to me. I saw them for the only time on The Cage tour - they were really good. Incidentally, Peter Collins produced Gary Moore’s more commercial material. Anyway, I did like The Cage but I get that it was too much of a change in direction for many original Tygers fans. Much as I like John Sykes, I think Fred Purser did a great job and really like his material. Still, I’d bought the album on the back of “Love Potion No. 9” and Sykes’ solo in particular - we played this version in my band back then - happy days :) I think I might have gone on a bit - well you did ask … 😂
The more stories from the old days the better, I say! Yeah, Love Potion took them to a whole new audience and I can understand why they decided that the commercial sound was the way to go. I still like it, but the first album will always be my favourite. But that could be because of when we first heard it and how much we revered it as young NWOBHM'ers.
Cheers Alex. Trying to get a days peace in the house to do a few lessons all in the one go - but my wife has a list as long as my arm of stuff I need to do in the garden. Which, let's face it, ain't very rock and roll, lol!
Always LOVED that chord (looks like G) on the off-beat in the chorus. Incidentally, what did think of The Cage? I preferred it to their other stuff really; a bit more melodic and less formulated.
I really liked it (still do). I guess it's totally different from their earlier Metal albums, which I also love. I have a place for both styles in my collection.
I remember Sounds/Kerrang giving it 5 stars but the production spoiled it for me. Good songs but it needed the harder edge of the previous albums. Their take on Love Potion No.9 was fabulous though
They were on the tube playing Making Tracks, but not on TOTP. As an album at the time I thought it was horrendous. Spellbound on the other hand I saw them on the Spellbound tour and thought they were better than Maiden, who I saw a month earlier on the Killers tour and we're my fav, at the time, but Tygers with Deverill and Sykes were awesome, but I have to be honest I hated the cage. But I know a lot of people loved it, but then they were all Def Leppard fans. Lol.
Like the bit about Def Leppard fans, brilliant! I liked it, but I could see that it was probably way to commercial for some of the fan base. I wasn't overly impressed with the performance on the Tube.
I was so dissapointed when I first got this album. It was so lame compared to previous albums. All these years later......it's still lame. Great video as always though. What is a great album is Hellbound Spellbound, Live in Nottingham They released it a few years ago through their website I believe. It's an ace live album.
Yeah, I could see a lot of folks who had been to the earlier tour with Motorhead thinking that this one was just too commercial. I'm still a fan tho, it has a different sound, but decent songs.

@@DunsysGuitarWorld Yes I think they were aiming for the American market with that album. Thanks.
Awesome! Criminally under-rated band! Cheers Dunsy!!
Still rocking and sounding great 40 plus years later!
Another beautiful sharing and a pleasant moment of listening.
Congratulations and thank you.
See you soon. Danielle
Thank you so much!
Always loved The Cage. Hugely underrated. Paris By Air makes me smile, great use of the word bread for rhyming purposes.

Always here to help spark those 80's Metal Memories!

Thanks Christophe. Took me a wee while to get all the parts nailed so I could do it in the one playthrough.
Here’s some synchronicity - I happen to be wearing my Spellbound T-shirt on the day you post this video, Dunsy!
It was meant to be, my friend! I'm probably doing a Black Rose cover next week, so make sure that shirt is good to go.

@@derekclacton Be careful noo, it might be Black Rose the band! I would struggle to play any Gary Moore stuff, that's for sure.
@@DunsysGuitarWorld Ah! I wouldn’t want to give the impression I’m obsessed with Thin Lizzy but it might have happened 🤣

Love the tygers mate, I tormented them for years to reform which they finally gave in and did 😁, crazy nights was my favorite all time tygers album
Brilliant that they're still going and sounding great.
👍🏻👍🏻
cheers dunsy great cover as always lessons please

Nice job! What do you play through to get your guitar sound? Cheer's

Yeah, that single and THAT solo was what brought Sykes to a much larger audience, for sure.

I don't think they were on top of the pops, remember them on the tube and tiswas 😁
Aye, Tiswas, I remember that! And the Tube - great show that was (usually!).
Spellbound is their best album, The Cage has some decent tunes but it's less Metal
Yeah, definitely going more commercial on this one.
