Peter Cushing was wearing slippers during most of his scene, because he couldn't get used to his boots, and he ask George to film his from the waist up
Peter Cushing was one of my favourite actors growing up, I used to watch him a lot in the Dracula movies alone with Christopher Lee who was another one of my favourite actors, Sherlock Holmes was another one of Cushing best roles
3:45 - miniatures and real explosions. That;s how special effects were done back in the day. Please bring this back, movie industry. CGI isn't always the best solution.
I love the 2 moments of surprise, first when the *ahem* EVIL Empire proceeds even after she told them the information and then when the planet actually explodes.
My favorite part is how, later on when Tarkin gets the news that any Rebels that WERE on Dantoonie left town ages ago, HE gets indignant; all of a sudden, lying is bad if it's to him. And Vader even tells him he told him that was a bad idea.
this was a great scene when I was young. this is actually a military tactic. they didn't only do this to show her the power of the station, they destroyed the planet so they can entice fear in the galaxy that the space station, the Death Star, is not to be trifled with and the Emperor is in control. and the news about Alderaan been destroyed is an example to spread the fear. that was another reason they destroyed the planet.
And it backfired. Before this; the war was dismissed as political/philosophical; afterward the majority of the galaxy hated the empire where as before they where simply irritated. The rebel alliance got enough recruits to have a chance to take on the empire. Even the Sullustians who where a major weapons provider and the Mon Calamari where more willing to support them with their ships.
@@kylebryant8613 yeah, once the Empire, and especially Tarkin, proved to the entire Galaxy how deranged they actually were, that was basically it for their legitimacy.
@@kylebryant8613 Specifically it failed because of Luke destroying the Death Star; had it still been in the Empire's possession, then it would have brought the galaxy to heel since they would have the capacity and the willingness to destory any world where the defiance was too strong. It was Luke destroying the Death Star that turned the destruction of Alderann into a rallying cry for the rebellion because it showed the galaxy that they _would_ destroy worlds, but at the same time that they no longer _could_.
Tarkin made a huge mistake he put to much trust in fear to keep the people under boot had he stopped the rebels wouldn't have had such a massive foothold in hope.
Tarkin was an intellectual infant and a sadist. He couldn't rule or manage, only terrorize. In his first chronological appearance he was talking about how committing more War Crimes would end the war against the CIS. Grievous blowing up hospitals and murdering prisoners didn't the Republic quit. Neither did the Defoliator bombs or weaponizing the Blue Shadow Virus. Only an idiot or sadist would think that's the way to win a war.
This iconic movie was greenlit because Lucas had two respected British actors, Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness, who both worked in TV, movies and theater. In Rogue One, they had Cushing's Tarkin. Special Effects crew worked with software use to superimposed or deepfake Cushing's face on a body double similar to his.
we need a reaction from people reacting to people who have never seen Star Wars, Empire or Jedi -- it's funny to me anyone older then 10 have not seen these movies
yeah it's a legendary moment but how Millions of Voices cry out in Terror? it's happening in a split second, no one would feel anything and just vaporize..
It’s what that level of mass death and destruction would feel like to a Jedi. Even if the inhabitants of Alderaan were snuffed out before they realized what was happening, the loss of life (especially when caused by evil) would cause a massive sensation of distress in the Force.
He said “it’s as if”, not literally; when millions of people who supply the Force with its power suddenly die, the change is felt in the Force by a Jedi.
Tarkin has nothing on vader youll find out if you watch the whole series of star wars. What tarkin used a laser beam for all those miles away, vader did up close and personal with his bare hands.
Peter Cushing was wearing slippers during most of his scene, because he couldn't get used to his boots, and he ask George to film his from the waist up
I think it was because the boots were a size too small and they were hurting his feet.
Yep, i missed out on that while i was texting, i meant to put that in@onyxodon
One of the best scenes, rest in peace Carrie Fisher, you weren't a princess, you were a QUEEN 💗👑👑👑👑
I never noticed how tall Peter Cushing was, when watched this for the first time in the cinema
"You may fire when ready."

To all those reactors who were surprised that Tarkin fired anyway...this is why it's not called the "warm and fluffy Galactic empire".
Wait ... what .... it's not???
@@mikearmstrong8483 Sorry to disappoint, but no.

I was 7 when this came out.
Blew my tiny mind !!!
Been a massive fan ever since. ❤❤
And Tarkin was so plesent when he went on that trip to Skaro

now days in a star wars movie some ewok with pink hair would turn up at the last second and force protect the entire planet
I love the 2 moments of surprise, first when the *ahem* EVIL Empire proceeds even after she told them the information and then when the planet actually explodes.
Peter Cushing was so damn good. We needed more of him in this one!

And to think Grand Moff Tarkin was in carpet slippers

Even Vader thought he was insane for doing this. Let that sink in, folks.
As a representative of the Empire you have made a few errors in judgement. lol 😂

and tarkin was wrong. scariff was the first test of the death star, not alderaan.
At least Daddy Darf Vader was there for his daughter the princess
She ripped him a new one when he came back in Force ghost form to talk to her. Heh.
Hey spoilers yo lol
