Update - I just came back from a 150 mile ride. Checked the air pressure before and after and the repair is holding good so far!!!

After you have inserted the mushroom, and removed the installer, you should pull on the
rubber that is sticking out to ensure the seal.
If you pull and stretch the rubber a couple of times to about 2" you should be OK.
