- In this video I go over the UK version of Paul McCartney's new book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present. In this book Paul reminisces about 154 separate songs that he has written over his lifetime. Also included are loads of great photos, some never seen before.

In July 2003, British musicologists stumbled upon superficial similarities between the lyric and rhyming schemes of "Yesterday" and Nat King Cole's and Frankie Laine's "Answer Me, My Love"; originally a German song by Gerhard Winkler and Fred Rauch called Mütterlein, it was a number 1 hit for Laine on the UK charts in 1953 as "Answer Me, O Lord", leading to speculation that McCartney had been influenced by the song. McCartney's publicists denied any resemblance between "Answer Me, My Love" and "Yesterday". "Yesterday" begins with the lines: "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they're here to stay." In its second stanza, "Answer Me, My Love" has the lines: "You were mine yesterday. I believed that love was here to stay. Won't you tell me where I've gone astray".
Gee I certainly like the outer box much better. But, alas, I have a copy. I can't justify spending more $$ just to get the picture cover. Great video Mark, I appreciate you showing it to us. Cheers Matt

The super limited edition orange version was part of a competition in the UK, you had to pre order the standard version from Waterstones to enter. I don’t think you could buy it.
You might see copies on eBay soon for A LOT of money….!

I always buy from all Amazon regions, and I noticed that the French version is like a hybrid version, it has parts of the US version and parts of the UK version. Thanks for sharing this video.

Hey Mark I know it might say no views but I already watched the video about 20 minutes ago and then it went down. I'm going to have to hold off on getting this lyrics book for now but it looks really cool. I put some money away hopefully for more music from the get back series. I've also left you an email Mark.

This is the first time I have really examined the UK book. The CHAOS outer box is really superior! Hey, maybe I can take the US books with the McCartney photos on the spine and place them inside the CHAOS box! Something to ponder. Could this be yet another item that Mark has caused me to spring for?
Plus, it was cheaper than is currently available on Amazon!

Unless you use a grinder and cut them down to fit the UK box since it's smaller than the US version. Nice try though.

Every song that is listed in the book has a story or commentary by Paul.

What could the US version be like?
What was the catch for an import from Europe to North America?
The cost for the book and shipping was still less than what it's currently selling for on Amazon here in the US.
Why did you avoid the FEST
I don't live close enough and it looked like the same scrapping of the barrel for guests anyway.

I wonder if they mentioned that Lennon wrote the lyrics to Eleanor Rigby, She's Leaving Home, middle eight of Michelle and so on.

@@Kate-sx9uh John wrote the melody and lyrics for Michelle's chorus in the fall of 1965. George Martin wrote the melody for Harrison's lead guitar and played it in unison with him. And the French words were actually written by the translator, since it was he who was looking for rhymes. Before the Beatles, Paul only had a small piece of lyrics and a verse. Here are John's lyrics to his tune. As anyone can see, this is the big and best part of the text:

@@Kate-sx9uh She's Leaving Home was co-written by Paul and John. John sings parts of the song that he wrote himself. In addition, he edited and reworked McCartney's text. This is confirmed by George Martin.
@@Kate-sx9uh Eleanor Rigby is a product of collective creativity. Paul's contribution is what can be heard on his acoustic demo. That's all he brought to the studio. The rest was written by the Beatles, their friend and George Martin. For example, the chorus was written by George Harrison. The overall lyrics were written by John Lennon with some ideas from his friend Pete Shotton, according to Pete Shotton.

You definitely got the better copy. The other slip cases are terrible.
Are you planning to get the Limited and US edition? I have the glossy part of my dustjacket on the inside rather than the outside. I'm not sure if that's a standard, but it looks like an error because it makes the cover look like it was printed on regular paper.
I'm not planning on getting any other editions of this one.

I like the slip case much better...almost makes me want to buy the set. I know if I do, I'd read it the give it away because probably never read it twice. Enjoy it. Take care
