I have had one for years. 4 seater. I have wanted to do what you have done. Buy a few and fix them up. Are you still dablng with them? Love to talk with you about them. Thanks.
Thanks Hagan! Have you ever seen a Th!nk with an accelerator pedal that is loose? Meaning in goes in and out (accelerate more or less) with little resistance. So when you go to accelerate the forward momentum makes the pedal (or your foot) come off giving a very jerky movement.
I have a Ford Think Neighbor 4 passenger. I restored it fully last year and I love it. I’ve had mine since 2017. I have put thousands of miles on it. Would like to go to lithium next go around but I just put new AGM batteries in last year. Hit me up!
That’s awesome! I might do a custom lithium pack in an episode, but I’m just not sure yet. It would be my luck to make one, sell the cart, then some wild crazy thing happens and it catches fire haha. My degree is in electrical engineering so I’d love to say I did it just for the fun of it.
I hear there is an issue with the BMS shutting down things when it thinks the battery is supplying too much giddyup. As though it’s unprepared for the rapid need for power. My machine had the Gen 2 motor (7.5hp) snd Gen 2 controller. The guy who knows these things is ‘Bob the Cluster Guy’. He knows everything and he upgrades controllers as well as instrument clusters.
@@ronaldbrown2854 I think there’s some packs out there that doesn’t have a large enough BMS. The Think, especially with oversized tires, can pull several hundred amps at full throttle from a stop. Cheaper aftermarket BMS’s can’t sustain this and shut down the pack. But the controller could also be unhappy depending on voltage fluctuations. I know Richard Montalvo has done this successfully with Leaf batteries. He might be a good guy to ask about a good BMS. Bob is a good guy as well and has helped me in the past. I have been posting more updates on the Facebook group “Ford Think Nation”. I’ll release a cluster video in the next few weeks - waiting on some parts to come in for a cluster bypass!
Thanks you for the good information. I am currently working on my Think and have questions about thThank you for the valuable information. Just get you a fiat 124 master cylinder and replace it. You can see common parts in the free excel file that I provide over at fordthink.org. It’s an incredibly simple braking setup.
I have inherited 3 think cars. One did run, I think it needs new batteries. The other two are parts cars. What do you think I could get for them. Thanks
Why AGM? Wouldn’t it be better to go Lithium? I used to buy these back 10-12 years ago and refurb them and resell them. I actually have a truck model right now that needs refurbing.
Great question! Some of these are in pretty bad shape. I’m working my way through them from worst to best. For the nicest ones, lithium might be the way to go. Each cart is a gamble on if the charger, dc/dc, controller, or cluster works/needs repair, so depending on that and what I think they can realistically sell for will dictate what parts they get. How long did you restore them for?
Thank you for putting this series together. Us Think owners have NEEDED videos on You Tube for a long time. Liked and subscribed 👍🏻
Awesome source for Think info.
I've recently started looking for a Think to do a AC conversion on so I'm looking forward to your videos. Subscribed
