    Petko, I want to say thank you. I have been terrified of spiders for thirty eight years. A few weeks ago, I bought and set up my first ever giant millipedes, and started watching you and Tarantula Dan... I’ve been watching older videos and keeping up to date with new ones. Today, in the garden, I held and relocated TWO spiders while taking apart a shed. I didn’t freak out, and I didn’t panic. I even let them wander for a closer look. Baby steps, but I’m getting there, hopefully with a view to being able to cope when the big guys start coming into the house this autumn looking for ladies. You and Dan are single handedly responsible for this (well you and the ‘pedes!) so THANK YOU.

      Yeah, Tom is my first stop whenever I want info on a species.
      As for getting over fears, get a Caribena Versicolor sling. Mine is so cute and curious and I end up handling (hopefully her) all the time because she always just runs out on my hand. Would have been inconceivable for me only a couple years ago.

      Me too! When I was a kid I wasn't that scared of bugs, but as I got older I started to like them less and less. A few months ago I got some millipedes and watching a lot more bug channels on youtube, especially Petko. Invert keeping is now my now hobby and I'm having a great time with all my little buddies. This weekend I'm even getting a vinegaroon and a tailless whip scorpion. They used to freak me out a lot but now I have learned to appreciate them a lot more and I think they're even cute!

    It is so cool to see some animals that are native to Hungary, which i watched with such joy when i was a kid, and i am still filled with happiness when i see them. I knew the web location of every single spider in our garden and i fed them each day, such great times those were.

    Thank you for another great video Petko. I have been to Dubrovnic in the early early 2000's with the U.S. Navy, Croatia won a major water polo championship while we were there, quite the celebration. The old city there was extraordinary, it was a great place to visit.

    I love those orb weavers. I had huge one on our porch for a summer that became a pet. I'd catch moths that came to our porch light and throw them into her web. She stayed there all summer until the first freeze. She disappeared then but left an egg sack. I found one this summer climbing up on my night stand. I caught her and kept her in a box for a couple days but the box was too small so I ended up releasing her outside near my berry fields. I farm a rare species of raspberry so a spider in the berry patch is welcomed.

    9:13 the reason why Argiope spin those thicker, zig-zag webs is it is sort of like a signal to birds so they don’t fly into the web.

    i am a big fan of you and your channel, the way you show and care for spiders is amazing and inspiring for me. Tarantulas are awesome creatures as you spectacularly show in every video. However despite the diversity of you collection ive always wondered if you will ever branch out into other species of spiders that are amasing in their own right. i (to my mothers horror) have caught a couple redback spiders and i remember the sense of achievement and wonder i felt when i created and enclosure which could display the incredible complexity of their webs. Watching them construct web spirng traps and the way they consume their prey.

    The criss-cross stuff in the web of A. Bruennichi serves to stabilize the web. I thought you wanted to know. Have a good one Petko :)

    • @oiuhev
      @oiuhev 6 років тому +3

      that's interesting, it may very well have that function. I watch a lot of documentaries and the few times this criss-cross stuff has been mentioned it has always been portraid as a hunting aid. It supposedly attracts insects because it reflects light in a more appealing way to them.

    • @95kerplunk
      @95kerplunk 6 років тому +3

      @Chachismo Ilustrado - Leaning on my sensory ecology lectures, I believe you are talking about light polarisation. Many insects can 'see' polarised light, and are attracted to polarised light sources. This is normally because water surfaces reflect light in a certain plane and insects use this to find them.
      If the spiders web employs the same mechanism it could fool prey into landing on its webs. I don't know if this is happening in this case, but it could be an explanation.
      Its a horrifically complicated but fascinating topic!

    The one in the little web house in the grass at 12:28 is Larinioides cornutus I think. Also your five-legged Spider I think was Argyroneta aquatica. I saw one for the first time this year, they are so cool! The big ones you were feeding (I can’t remember the Latin name) are called Wasp Spider in English.

    Hey Petko, did you thought of making an enclosure for water insects? They are pretty fun and interesting to watch (kept myself quite a lot in my school days, like Great diving beetle or Hydrophilus piceus). You need to somehow cool water though, and would be nice if some kind of "shore" were there too. I can vouch for them being fun, especially their larvae. Upvote if you like an idea.
