I loved how you said “my job it to teach you all these strategies and you pick what works best for you”. Our curriculum is terrible! It’s not like that at all. I finally, for my sanity and for my kids to feel like they CAN do it… I teach it where I am differentiating. At the end of the day, my job is to see growth and meet their needs. Not the districts expectation on following the scripted mess.
That's technically how curriculum is supposed to be... a means to adding told to their toolbox. You formatively assess them on their ability to use the tool/ strategy, & summatively assess them on solving the problems you give them whereby they use that enhanced toolbox.
Hi Shelley! I love watching your vlogs! I also teach 2nd and I learn a lot from you! Can you please send the link to those lights around your whiteboard please!! I love them!!
Have you tried numberless word problems? I actually laughed at the thought and then tried them and it is fabulous for teaching to read the problem and figuring out what we are being asked.
My teachers never did small group unless you came in before school for tutorials. (Which was only 15 mins and you had to have a pass from the teacher). I would have benefited so much from small group. Also the teacher didn’t always give you a pass to come in. You had to get it a day before. The way teachers reach today is what I needed as a child.
You did not link th the wrting resource set that you used so please could you? Also, if it's not too much could you link or write the name of the Writing Technique that you mentioned (a cooperative _____________paragraph). Thank you. Alicia from CT
Ahhhh!! GLAD is an incredible training our district provides of us. Here is the link begladtraining.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwvKi4BhABEiwAH2gcw6pY6Nle-9OBQup5bp52V6YJVG8QO2aOCONRSer72vh79WTcTx5OdBoCa_oQAvD_BwE
Almost every internet browser has a function that reads anything on the page. Having said that most of the questions my students get can be read aloud by IXL itself.
my niece thats in 1st grade at home i have her doing multiplication but it seems her teacher doesnt differtiante and it annoys me because than she complains shes off task or interuppting i guess if you taught her on the level she is instead making her add single digit numbers maybe you wouldnt have the issues out her
No offense, but just because you are doing multiplication with her at home doesn't mean she has mastered all of the first grade math standards! I say that to be helpful! Math is SOOO much more than just solving facts. You can't expect a teacher to differentiate for 24 students every single day. I hope that she is able to sometimes! BUT, even my kids that need an extra push are expected to stay on task and not interrupt....that's my expectation. In addition to that though, my students that are above I give leadership roles and allow them the space to help "teach" the other kids. Idk just my two cents.
@@EarlyEDventures except all they done in math so far is adding to 10 literally it looks like thats all they are going to do the first half of the school year given that unit of their math book is 40 lessons and after the first 9 weeks they are only half way through the unit. I taught my niece more than that we did place value up to 1000s, adding and subtracting with regrouping, and money. It seems they are just concerned about teaching the kids all these fancy ways like number lines and number bonds instead the old fashioned way of adding that we were taught. this is why so many people have issues with modern forms of doing math. her teachers main complaint is not that shes not doing math that instead of writing down the problem they are doing she gets bored and starts writing harder math problems down. my niece is highly intilligent but theres not gifted program at her tiny rural school.
Hey there! I hope you're doing well 😊 I wanted to reach out because there's a brand collaboration opportunity I think you'd be perfect for! However, I couldn't find your email anywhere. Could you let me know the best way to contact you? Looking forward to hearing from you! ✨
I love what you pointed out about differentiating within one grade and teaching two grades not being too different from that. 😊
Thanks for taking us along throughout your day! It’s always so informative and exciting to see what your kids are learning 🎉
I love, love, love your content!! Could you maybe make a video on Subsitute Teachers and how you plan for those; with classroom management?
Thank you Shelly!

I’ve been waiting for you to post!!! Great to see you!
I remember doing IXL when I was younger!
this is awesome!!!
love love love your teaching philosophies like not having kids look for key words meaning certain math operations
Ahhh... the tribulations of a specials/ electives teacher. Except I haven't really implemented small-group yet! 😮💨
