Hi mate, sorry for the random question but just wanted to ask you something, I’ve found this online, a solid white line marking indicates the boundary of a cycle lane, motorists are not allowed to cross this line and enter the cycle lane, except when turning or crossing a driveway, so you’re allowed to cross the solid white line of a cycle lane when turning or when entering or leaving a driveway?
Hello Wayne. The highway code states "you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less."
The more paint on the road, the greater the hazard, that’s very simple but very important to remember, I think that no matter how long you’ve been driving you should always from time to time have a read through of the Highway Code and watch these videos to keep your knowledge fresh and up to date, just in case any learner drivers are watching this there are also bus lanes which will always have a solid white line running along it, if there are no times and days displayed on the road sign then it’s a bus lane 24/7 and cars can’t enter the bus lane at any time but the same with a mandatory cycle lane (a cycle lane with a solid white line running along it) if there are times and days displayed on a sign then that’s when you can’t enter the lane, outside of those times and days then you’re allowed to enter the lane and of course for both bus lanes and cycle lanes, if you see dashed white lines they are places where you’re allowed to enter, there are also white edge lines marking the edge of the carriageway and there are also h bars highlighting to other road users that they shouldn’t block access to off-road parking areas such as driveways and garages. 🙃
2:55 I’d just like to add that you’re permitted to cross the solid white line of a cycle lane to enter or exit a private driveway and to turn left or right but you must turn as close to the junction as possible, basically you’re not allowed to drive ALONG the lane but you’re allowed to CROSS the lane.
4:55 I’d just like to add that stopping is prohibited on any length of road that has double white lines, even if the line on that side of the road is broken, the exceptions are stopping to pick up and set down passengers and to load or unload goods but in these circumstances you should park off the main carriageway wherever possible.
It’s very confusing and very contradictory because in the Highway Code rule 130 says you must not cross a solid white line to enter a hatched area except for in an emergency but in know your traffic signs under the overtaking lanes section it says you must not cross a continuous white line to enter a hatched area except for the reasons for double white lines, one says you can’t do it at all and one says you can at the end of an overtaking lane when 2 lanes merge into 1.
What about a single solid white line in the middle of the road in a tunnel mate? Surely rule 129 of the Highway Code wouldn’t apply to them as rule 129 refers to double white lines.
5:18 most people think that if there are hatched markings with a solid white line you can’t enter into them at all unless in an emergency, which is true, however, there is one exception, on a single carriageway at the end of an overtaking lane where 2 lanes reduce into 1 may you legally cross a solid white line to enter hatched markings for any of the reasons mentioned for double white lines - (enter and exit adjoining premises or a side road, pass a stationary vehicle blocking the lane, overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle travelling at 10mph or less), leave at least 1.5 metres of space when overtaking cyclists at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds, pass horse riders and horse-drawn vehicles at speeds under 10 mph and allow at least 2 metres of space.
Hello Wayne 👋 Why do ypu spend time reading the Highway code on a daily basis 🤔 I'm just interested in knowing as I spend a lot of time reading books on health
I failed today in 27 lesson reason was i went once in that route in 27 lesson that was so conjusted and bendy route n car park which i never went even once that was so conjusted even there was already alot of parked cars were there.worst day today i drive good in normal days but tdy because of lack of route understanding i hit the curb .i hardly one time hit curb in ma 27 lessons when i had my 3rd lesson.not after tht .because he was keep confusing me n fidnt sit quiet even for one minute
The DVSA recommends a minimum of 40 hours of driving PLUS additional private practice. You should not aim to just be ready for the test and aim to get your driving ABOVE test standard. This is because everyone under performs at tests.
Very educative. Thank you so much
Hello Victoria 🖐Thanks for the positive feedback

Hello Wayne. The Highway code is ALWAYS right. That is the code!
Yes you’re right and also the Highway Code is backed up by law.

I solid line in the middle of the road. Ie tunnel into Heathrow, is usually accompanied by a sign indication "Do not cross the line"
