The more I learn about DeMeo, the more I respect Sonny Black. He knew what was coming, and he accepted it. No ratting. No running. He was a real one, unlike these rat "toughguys"

I am curious, why do you call them rats? Almost none of them ratted except Freddy, Vito, and Montiglio and Vito was the only one of them who wasn't justified by their code. Freddy did it out of revenge for murdering his brother and best friend in betrayal and Montiglio did the nation a favor.

@@mickcollins113 not this specifically. In general. Yea, Sonny messed up. He's not the only one that fell for Pistone. My point is, he took his punishment. You hear these other guys all talking on podcasts about being loyal, and they all turned. Just making a point, I guess. Not many guys would go meet DeMeo knowing what's coming

Top-tier work from writing to filming and of course Style. Bad stories always start with someone buying a van...if they have a 'murder porthole' in the sidepanel, even more so. Excellence as standard now Mooney.

Great job bud, your style of reporting on these crimes, and the details as you describe them is impressive. You should become a regular on some NY TV news channel, reporting on these things. But as far as the demise of Andrei in this supermarket caper, it's pretty crazy that they had access to their meat department. And looking at Rockaway and knowing something about that area, it really seems depressing there. Glad I escaped that whole NY scene for saner surroundings. Stay safe out there my brother!

Two more things, it's a cardboard baler and a trash compactor. Balers compact the cardboard but you have to wrap it with wire and make a bale which then pops out for recycling. There's an image of Katz's body being pieced together by the ME behind Pantry Pride, in the image, the right hand is missing. According to Pete LaFroscia, they revived Katz before killing him, by slapping him with his own dismembered hand.

"Trim the fat", that had me lol for real. I used to go to B 15 way back in the day as it was a notorious weed block back then. Then a few years later we used to goto B 69 at the end of the board walk. Crazy risky stuff, but we were 20 or 21 & thought we were invincible. This area looks like a place my ex gf and I used to go see a doctor at and it's just like you said, looks like it was abandoned. Way further down is the really nice area. Being beach front property you'd be surprised it's somewhat ghetto now, sort of.

I'm going to tell you right now.I truly believe that everyone of the guys of demos crew everyone were so addicted to cocaine. They were out of there minds high most of the time or all of the time on coke.I think they had to be high on coke during all dismemberment and while killin. In a nutshell they were all coke addicts and would do anything Roy wanted them to do because Roy would give them coke and keep them supplied with it so he could ask them to do anything, anytime. The whole gang was strung out.Pretty much everything they did had nothing to do with being in the mafia They were nothing but a bunch of cocaine addicts doing what their dealer (Roy)wanted them to do for more coke.Plain and simple.

This is a pretty famous killing. "Murder Machine" covered it well, as did "The Darkness Underneath". Now we get the Mooney and Truck special look. Thanks.
After torturing Andre for some time Chris supposedly killed him by driving a meat cleaver into his chest while he was being held up. Then they covered his head with a plastic bag (I hope he was dead at this point) and putting his body between layers of cardboard boxes. Then they put it head first into the machine press that compressed the cardboard boxes store supplies came in for bundling amd recycling. That popped his skull and head open. The plastic bag was to retain the mess. Roy DeMeo had apprenticed as a butcher and knew cutting up a carcass was less messy once the body and blood had cooled down, so they went out to lunch for an hour or so. Then they came back to dismember him. Pretty much like Richie Aprile's body disposal in "The Sopranos".
Like a lot of people I've worked with these cardboard compactors. I worked part time for Walmart awhile running stocking. I was always paranoid some idiot was going to get caught in the machine and be crushed, but it never happened. Stores like this usually also have a large compacter that compresses trash into a large trailer for pickup by trash haulers. Having had to crawl into those compactors several times to clear jams (I wouldn't let my people do it) I imagine that would mess up a body pretty good too. That's what those big brown bins in back are. Compacted trash. The cardboard press would be a much smaller hydraulic press inside the stock room, out of the weather. The stupidity of this murder is compounded because they should have been easily able to conceal and totally get rid of the corpse had they done any decent thinking or planning. They seem to have had everything they needed. As Roy should have known, having worked at that store not long before, the trash pickups had been the day before. Dogs and bums found the badly wrapped body parts as they sat over a long hot weekend. Shows how bad, or possibly corrupt, the local DA staff was that they couldn't get a good investigation or conviction in this case. That led to MANY other murders.
Gotta love how this is still a working market. I wonder if the folks in the back know what happened in their daily workspace? Would they care? I've seen other photos of the back of this store from a few years ago. It was clean and orderly, as the back of a grocery should be. What you showed was unacceptably horrible. I can't believe they haven't been cited or shut down by the health authorities. Trash and fluids like that attract and breed vermin which will find their way into the store. A well run store has trash in enclosed bins only and the strong smell of bleach everywhere. That back, after debris removal, needs a power wash and steam cleaning followed by disinfecting. Personally, I'd fire the store manager immediately and without a discussion.

My in-laws, Albert and Mary Salerno, owned a bar near the Brooklyn Naval Yards in the 50's...My mother-in-law would tell me stories of Albert and her going to "meetings" in which she had to stay in the car...Mary told me that it was "suggested" they move west for their own benefit...They moved to San Diego, and finally ended up in Las Vegas, NV, where she said "the boys" running Vegas made the city much safer than it is today....You're dong a great job with the documentaries of organized crime in New York......Can you tell me which "family" would have run that area back in the day?...thanks in advance....

The Rockaways it's like how people from the city say: it's a island by itself. Yep it's a cardboard compactor I know because when I worked for claflin university they had one in the back of the kitchen area of the loading dock

You've done a number of videos on DeMeo and The Gemini Lounge. We know that DeMeo was forced to wack Rosenberg
and DeMeo was himself wacked "With a Message" by the wise guys. What happened to the Gemini Twins and the rest of the crew?
