Sir , the example of division ring that you mentioned , GLn(R) , is it an abelian group under matrix addition ? Because identity matrix I belongs to GLn(R) , so is - I belongs to GLn(R), then their sum I-I =0 matrix not in GLn(R) . So which one is division ring? Mn(R) or GLn(R) ?
Sir for (Z4,+4,×4) characteristic is 4 according to you but if we do 2 +4 2 we get zero so we can say the least possible value of n is 2 so characteristic is 2 . Please clear my doubt

But characteristic of ( Z4 , +4 , ×4 ) is 4. Because order of 1 is 4
