Transformed it into a striking image... the difference is amazing. I guess, not all images would work as well and you have to have the knack of knowing which will and which won't. Loved seeing the family enjoying themselves too (a natural eye for beauty was obvious). Wonderful, William.

Another great video. Was just down in Fiordland the past few days. I did Key Summit a few times, and Lake Maian trying to capture the epic views but the weather just wasn’t playing ball. I had to keep telling myself to stop trying to force an image and just enjoy the scenery. Im glad watching your video afterwards reiterated that for me. Missed the epic views but got an awesome shot of a South Island Robin.
Hey mate. Glad you had a nice time here. Fiordland is certainly a place that makes you work and seems to enjoy crushing your plans. Photogs come here with a short amount of time but high expectations and goals, which usually results in disappointment. Having several ideas and an open mind is certainly the best approach for sure.

Neat video, the biggest help was your comment about selecting a good photo to keep or edit. I’m trying to improve technically, so I take as many as I can but it results in a hard drive full with “not bad” photos.

Great video Will. Is there any difference in combining the focus stack first and then doing the post-processing as opposed to what you do here re processing one image, then copying across all three before combining the focus stack?
Thanks legend. No real difference. Potentially less destructive working on the files first, as they’re still the original raw. Nothing to really over think though, just do whatever feels natural.
Focus stacking with three shots front to back HANDHELD.. 😮😮 could you brief on that.. I know it's done on a tripod or is it the camera inbuilt feature as we have it in the Sony A7R V??.. TIA
Hey mate! The A7R5 has the built in feature which shifts the focus for you automatically. I’ve been shooting only handheld for 5-6 years now though, so I just have little methods which I use to make it possible.

Another great vid William. Question...Does ACR have the ability to click on those 3 pics and 'Open as layers in Photoshop", the way Lightroom does? I'm thinking of switching my workflow from LR/PS to Bridge/ACR/LR.
I have a real problem with post editing,apart from a slight crop and removal of an branch or twig or two from my photos.I don’t know ? It just seems like cheating to me,some photos I’ve seen are nothing like the original taken. I occasionally use Snapseed mainly for ease but even with this I find I don’t know what I’m really doing. There are so many different photoshop and Lightroom videos on the net is there one that starts from the very beginning? Something that takes you through a work flow to reach your end goal. Eg. what should come first, shadows, contrast, highlights ect.I figure if I’m going to dip my toe into this editing thing best do it right. I know there are courses, but money plays a bit part for me. I enjoy your videos and have decided to follow yourself and one other only for photography content. Thank for an assistance,regards.
Thanks. Search my name with Lightroom. There’s a complete start to finish on there. I understand what you are saying. You’re limiting yourself and your creativity if you think digital photography is just about the camera. Post processing is an integral part of the workflow and there’s no limit, rules or cheating unless you create that for yourself. Painters have also never really painted an exact literal moment in time. You just find what works for you and helps complete the artistic vision. It’s quite rare to be able to complete the image in the field, just like how film couldn’t be developed in the field. Enjoy the process. Cheers.
Hi William, another fantastic vid mate. How would you go about preparing a photo like this for printing at home? I don't know if it's just me but i think that all the saved shots i take should be printed so i was wondering how you go about getting things ready for your prints.
I'm not using ACR / PS (Affinity Photo instead) but I've always stacked then edited. Is there an advantage to editing first then stacking? My rationale, as thin as it may be, is that if there was any change between frames such as focus breathing, etc., I want to eliminate that before editing in case my edits on one frame didn't precisely match another. This is particularly true if I'm cropping. Am I overlooking something? Great video, thanks.
Honestly, it doesn’t overly matter. I prefer to process first, then stack as I figured the edit is slightly more ‘non destructive’ because I’m processing on the raws vs a flattened layer. But honestly I think the difference is negligible.

Well now they can be B&W as well as crap, lol. Just kidding. Location, composition and light are right at the top of importance in photography though. Working on those three will do wonders, then the processing is there as the final piece. Best of luck mate.
