FINALLY WE ARE IN THE BEAUTIFUL ISLAND OF SANTORINI IN GREECE. It's been a dream of ours for a very long time and it's finally become a reality! The Oia- Santorini sunset is famous across the world and people fill every single inch of this place before sunset. We had to do this as it was on our bucket list!!! Greece is simply heaven. It has absolutely everything. From 80% alpine mountains and spectacular landscapes all around, to an incredibly breathtaking mainland and 6000 islands. Santorini is great. But it's only 1 place. There are endless other great places in Greece. It's people are the warmest and hospitable you will ever find in the world and the food is heavenly and very diverse.
Greek mountains are not part of Alps

What you fail to understand with the lack of education you clearly exert is that Greece lies on 4 tectonic earthplates, has 80% mountains AND 20% of ALL of europe's ultra peak mountains lies in Greece. For example. Switzerland has 8 Ultra peak mountains, Austria 12, Croatia 0, Spain on the entire mainland 4, and Greece has 19 Ultra peak mountains. Ultra peak mountains are mountains that rise atleast 1500 meters compared to it's lowest surrounding point. And that is the REAL height of a mountain.
To educate you further. Lets say you are in Central Asia. you are on the flattest long plateau you can be, it almost resembles flat lands. But you are on 2100 meters height. then you see a mountain on the map. It says it's 4000 meters. Wow!! 4000 meters!! But no. That is the height measured from the SEA level. but there is no sea anywhere remotely close. So it's 4000 - 2100 = 1900 meters. And THAT is the real height of a mountain.
Now. If you understand that Greece has one of the most complex geographies on earth, and lies on 4 tectonic earthplates, 80% mountains, AND 20% of ALL of Europe's Ultra peaks being in Greece, then you understand that Greece is a mountain paradise. Because in Greece almost ALL mountains start from sea level and is at the same time the REAL height. And the mountains in Greece go up to 3000 meters. but REAL 3000 meters. You can be in the alps and see a mountain that is 3500 meters, but the valley you are in is 1300 meters. So the mountain height is not 3500 meters in front of you, its 2200 meters. THAT is why Greece is an ALPINE mountain heaven.
EVEN the Himalaya's when you go to the Mount Everest. EVER wondered why base of the mountain is at 5300-5500 meters (both sides)? Where are the other 5500 meters? Oh that's right. You are standing on it. They are gone. The remaining height you see in front of you. So that's why Greece excells in REAL height of a mountain, meaning prominence
And there is another thing special about Greece's mountains. Because. Above 2500 meters all of biodiversity dies as it can't survive the climate. In Greece all mountains go up till 3000 meters, and are not only extrmely different from another unlike the Alps where many mountains are all in the same range, which is very different in Greece because the Asiatic, African and European contintents (tectonic plates) come together IN Greece and a 4th plate got completely crushed, which is what makes Greece's mountains so different from another.
So all mountains in Greece have different speciealties and views and because they are in the full range of what biodiversity (nature) can be at, all mountains in Greece are very diverse with nature. For example. The mount Olympus has 1800 plant species which is more than some countries IN it's entirety.
You see? that is what happens when you educate yourself on things. Then you know how little you actually knew. Greece is a hikers and mountain heaven, as well as a natures, sea, culture, history, and food heaven. That is what makes Greece set itself apart. Because in Greece you can be fully in the most wonderful mountain scenery in the morning and end up in the sea for a swim, have heavenly food and watch the sun set from a incredibly picturescue town along breathtaking seascapes.

I went to Santorini from the UK in late April when the weather was warm and wasn't that busy - probably the best time to go IMO. Never go between June to September as it is extremely busy

My friends you will discover if you do visit that every Greek island will leave you astound because even if they are different you will have something new to see to everyone of them. But the gemstones island are Eptanisa in western Greece with magnificent Corfu stunning Zakinthos and Lefkada diversified Cephallonia and Kythera southest of all Ithaca birthplace of Ulysses and even the smallest Paxos and especially Antipaxos will offer you a beach that easily competes with Maldives or Seychelles. I predict that if you visit only one of them you will start coming every year in Greece at least once a year.
