Building a Wireless Multiroom Speaker - by SoundBlab

- This multiroom wireless speaker uses Arylic wireless modules built into the speaker, together with a 50watt amplifier module and custom modelled passive crossover, to provide the best sound possible from a speaker of this modest size. The speaker drivers used are from Dayton Audio in the form of a 4 inch woofer and 3/4 inch tweeter. The enclosure is ported and will produce a -3dB point of roughly 55Hz. The goal was to try and produce a speaker that will still give you very good HiFi quality sound output in a relatively compact enclosure and will aesthetically fit into most interior environments.

Thanks for your awesome guide. I just finished making a speaker for my mom using your instructions, and she's really happy with it. It sounds fantastic, and it's the first speaker I've ever built.
While I found your instructions clear and easy to follow, I'd like to share a couple of tweaks I'd consider for future builds. My personal preference led me to choose an external mains power supply over incorporating two internal ones. I lacked confidence in managing both without potential issues. To tackle the ground loop challenge, I initially tried a DC-DC isolator (TDN 5-2411WI), but it fell short in reducing noise effectively. As a temporary fix, I used an external 5V PSU, though I plan to switch to the Arylic mono amp soon. The extra expense, in hindsight, doesn't justify the complications I faced.
Another suggestion involves the 3D files for the project. Having access to these would have greatly simplified using various tools or crafting small jigs for easier construction. For instance, a simple 3D-printed jig could have eased the vent glue-up process, a step I found a bit challenging due to time constraints before Christmas. Including such helpful tools and jigs in your instructions could be a great addition for future builders.
In the end, everything worked out great, and I'm definitely going to build another one of your projects.

Great build! This would be perfect if you could move the reset button and led to the front or top of the speaker. I often have to reset my Arylic boards because they stop responding no matter how often I reload the app.
Thank you! I had that idea but it just became too complex and I wanted to keep the build as simple as possible. However, I have never had the issue of having to reset my Arylic boards. So far my experience has been pretty seamless.

Incredible video, excellent tutorial. But I have a question, how do I do it if I have my old home theater sound system, the one I used with the DVD. As I do to transform it into a 5.1 home cinema. What amplifier board would you recommend? And how would be the installation of this? I would like to see on your channel how you recycle an old DVD 5.1 home cinema and learn how to make mine. So that it does not continue to throw dust. Thank you very much for the video and learning.
If you already have a receiver that powered the speakers, you could use the amplifier from that. It might be a bit tough though so I'm not sure if you'd want to try that
I see you also have modded your hole cutter so it is actually usable, I even sharpened them differently and they work soo much better (maybe visible in my video) anyway nice build and greetings from Finland

Confused at the connection of that white box, Sir it has out put & input but you connected only one side to the power input which side is this ?

The other side goes to the Arylic board for power.

I only have a few questions. Since this is an active speaker, why don't you go for an active crossover as well? Those will not only perform much better, but are also cheaper, more efficient and smaller as well?
Also I saw quite some dips and peaks in the frequency response. Are you aware of using (window) gated measurements? This way you basically don't see any dips from reflections.
Thanks! For me, the active solution will be more complex to build. I personally also prefer the sound of a passive speaker with well designed crossover. The gated measurement will only show me from around 200 or 300Hz upwards in my environment. I wanted to see the entire response curve. The dip and peeks are expected in the low regions and you'll get them in any room, so I wanted to show a more realistic expectation to my viewers.
@@SoundBlab It's true that your only limited in your response. My experience is that from around 170-200Hz is perfectly possible with a 25% Hanning window.

This can actually be combined with a near-field measurement incl a baffle simulation (with Edge or VituixCAD).
Actually Audio Preclusion has an EXCELLENT paper on the subject, called "AppNote Loudspeaker EA Measurements" and is free to download.
@@p_mouse8676 I would normally do a baffle simulation with more involved, complex or higher end speaker builds (using VituixCAD), but for this simple build I didn't think it was worth the effort.

did you work with the zma/frd files and t/s params provided by dayton? doesnt look like you measured the speaker yourself. i did that once and when i measured that speaker with a microphone later the response didnt match the simulation at all. turned out the files provided by the manufacturer werent close to the real thing also xsim is not considering your enclosure or the baffle step.
I always measure drivers and frequency response. I don't rely on the manufacturer specs.

Thanks man. I did actually build a second one of these. Tried the stereo and it works, but its not 100% perfect. Sometimes it can get a bit out of sync.
can we make all 4 satellite attached with one receiver at a same time and setup on every room ?
Yes, if you have 2 or more of these, you can have one in each room and play different or the same content on each one simultaneously. It works like a Sonos.

Cool man! Look at these drivers: Dayton Audio PS180-8 and Tang Band W6-2144. Perhaps one of these will be suited to your needs.

Thanks. Yes, I did actually build another one of these. Tested the stereo, but was not that impressed with it. I did not optimise the board, but I am keen to play around with the ACP Workbench app to see its capabilities.

very great build but for the low end i would "apply" baffle step compensation... that would give you a nicer punchier bass
Thanks! The crossover design does take into consideration the baffle step. To make it more pronounced, I had to consider more bass vs less SPL. I went for a more balanced sound and more SPL in the end.

I don’t know man. You will have to do the sums based on your parts, materials and labour costs etc. and then come up with a suotable price. These factors differ from country to country and availability of parts etc.

Thanks! The back panel can be removed to service electronics. Crossover parts and drivers rarely fail if at all.
