Had to watch your vid twice. Spent most of the time trying to clear YOUR notifications during the 1st... Not my proudest moment. Anyway, I liked the vid...both times. Simple, to the point, and informative. Other vids from other tubers either confuck the fuse outta me or suggest equipment I'd have to sell a kidney for. Thanks for saving me a headache and/or surgical scar. Subbed.
Well it's not just the hardness of the steel but the hard particles inside the steel that make things difficult. Rule number one is technique is number one.
i'm interested in sharpening with a whetstone. it looks so "calming" .i do freehand on diamonds and also guided (WE). Have you tried Atoma diamond stones? They seem pretty mice. But for me i would love to use waterstones. Gonna look around and see what i'l come up with. Take care!
+Jorgen Sandstrom I have an Atoma 140 and piles of diamond stone stuff. Honestly the waterstones feel better and I get the most performance out of them, maybe just me
I have been looking online for whetstone so was going to start at 400 grit would you recommend starting at 250 and working up from there or is 250 more for damaged and reprofiling blades.
Yup, you guessed it. You only need three stones A repair stone 200 to 600 A sharpening stone 800-2000 And a polishing stone 3000-10000 I'm keeping this very vague and generic. I'll cover in detail later
The less expensive stones are home versions and lack quality I have that 250/1000 combo and the 250 is better than the sun tiger 220 single atone....as far as the 1000 grit side is from the bottom end series, wears faster and is slower than the more expensive single 1000 DELUXE version. I have those stones so I give my opinion ✌
I was just wondering how they compared to King and other leading stones? I found some old ones in my house from a long time ago, like more than 10 years. I looked them up, they are apparently very expensive now. Though I don't see what's so special about them. Just wondering if I should stick with those, or pick up one or two King Stones as well, since they are not so expensive, and maybe stone technology has evolved, or the Nortons are just overpriced for some reason. I really don't know.
One thing I have noticed as they seem to wear kind of quickly. I haven't used it that much, just a few times really, in the past, and the coarser grit is already dished and had to be flattened a couple times, although certainly could be user error since I am still new to sharpening.
All the tea in China dishing isn't a quality thing. There are soft stones and hard stones. Each with there merits and drawbacks. A soft stone is more forgiving to angle inconsistencies which leaves a better less streaky finish on big bevels but will dish more. The King is also a soft stone. So no need to switch.
King Deluxe Stones (KDS) are larger and more durable than the non-deluxe Kings. I recommend the King Deluxe 300 and 1200. See vids and reviews. ua-cam.com/video/OjrGA24fnP0/v-deo.html
Not true of the KDS 300, same as Neo, not red soaker, grey splasher. Confirmed by manufacturer. I have one. Do u? Haha right on I'll have to update the video more stones are out there
Your thoughts on getting a KING K.D.S. and. KING 300 stone??

@@chadrudolph1596 Can't find a deluxe 300 tho, only normal 300.
Does sharpening harder super steels on basic stones just take more time or is it impossible at some point?

Yep I'm picking up what you're putting down
Hey I know this is an old video but how many different grit stone would you recommend from king

You could also get a low grit diamond stone like DMT which will double as a stone for flattening your waterstones as they will eventually dish.
Thanks for everyone's input it's good advice and I'll take it on board.
I love em too.

have you heard of Norton Waterstones?
yes

All the tea in China is it an actual Norton waterstone? Norton is known more for there synthetic oilstones. Especially the tri hone

can't get them this cheap in Australia. Looking at at least $60 Aud each
Hamish Dore
I can get it for $20 or lower and I live in Australia go to amazon
Buy direct from Japan. If you get numerous things it can work out far cheaper.

King Neo is superior, I sell on my website. KDS is still a slower fast wearing stone that needs a soak and doesn't work for super steels well.
