I think this was one of the best videos I’ve seen you do and I think I’ve watched them all. Thank you for creating them. That one was packed full of information 👌🏻👍🏻🤘🏻👊🏻
You’re so welcome and thanks so much for watching and supporting! I’m glad you dig this one
True craftsmanship.
Gz Karl I was holding my breath when you started to bead roll that hood. Really glad you didn't roll it 10 times. I was nervous for you, couldn't take my eye of the line. A great video nice and long with absolutely great content. Very methodical and your concentration is amazing. Thank you for sharing your time, video and craftmanship.
You’re so welcome man thanks so much for watching it! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Im a simple guy, i see Karl uploaded. I smash the like button. 👊
👊👊👊👊cheers man
the workmanship quality that goes into this Model A is priceless !! that car should be worth more than expected !!
Thanks man!
@@MakeItKustom The pleasure is mine...you have the skill and carry the experiance proven!!!
Karl, I found a solid rubber caster wheel at harbor freight which was 6" and it really works better than the rubber band. Yes it takes a few minutes to change the wheel over but, it takes the frustration out of the rubber band always going off to a side and having to constantly having to realign it ! Looks great keep up the great videos !
yes i agree we don't have a Harbor Freight but have one called A MANS TOY SHOP same thing but from what i have Hurd say you can get way more from yours than the one we have 6 inch by 2 1/2 inch wide great for rolling the bends in the tin
I was wondering how frustrated he was getting. I know I would have been. Lol
Great attention to detail, and your jigs, fences, etc. enable you getting perfect results while working alone.
Yes I actually have one 8 inch wheel that a friend of mine who works at a rubber place took and stripped the urethane off and then vulcanized new rubber to the wheel. I swear it’s gonna be the most amazing wheel I’ve ever used I just have not made the bearing for it yet
@@MakeItKustom That would be a cool wheel to sell on your website along with your Japhands Kustoms radius guage. Just like you built it. Looks sweet
The amount of detail to the inner structure is amazing. Had you ever thought of hot glue gun to position temp rods. With tape it could slide glue sticks would hold until your ready and peel off fairly easy.
Never thought of it but great idea!
Carl a big shout out from Australia
Im a 57 year old car restorer I really enjoy watching your videos you are a seriously talented young guy
I watched how you made that aluminum radiator fit that front panel but the way you made that bonnet fit 👌
If I can share something with you
When cutting aluminum with those thin cutting blades have a wax candle handy and drop the tip of the blade in it a little it will cut like butter without clogging
Keep up the great work my friend can’t wait for the next one
Michael
Sweet looking roadster. I really like your approach to your craft
Glad you did it man! Can’t wait to get further on it
I'm digging the longer videos. I know most people suggest to keep them short, but I love this content. I'm finally back to working on my car, and can't wait to apply some of what I learned while following you. Thanks again!
Yeah I’m digging the longer videos too I feel like there’s a lot more opportunity to fully grasp whatever we are doing if we take the time to make the video full length
As a Auto engineer myself i have to say Your work Karl is ........no words really brilliant !!
Cheers man thanks you so much 👊👊👊👊
@@MakeItKustom cheers Bro👊👊👊👊
@@MakeItKustom Im hoping to be as successful as you in 2 years with my channel, based on what i do Turbochargers the repairs of them, upgrades, and importing sector ect.
Karl that was Amazing, after 47 years of running a body shop, I bow to you !
Man that’s a pretty high compliment I really appreciate it!
Great informative work once again!🙂
You’ve given me the Sunday morning motivation needed to brave working in my garage it’s 6 degrees here in New Zealand… middle of winter
I’m fitting an old louvred hood to my 47 ford coupe, lots of structural repairs as it hasn’t been on a car in decades but lots of fun and a good excuse to buy some more tools.
NZ BROTHER !!!
Right on I’m glad to hear it man! It always trips me out when you guys are in the winter and we are in summer
Your work is always on point Karl. You never cease to amaze me with your skill & work ethic. Another fantastic creation by "Fisher". Billy J.... Queensland, Australia.
Thanks so much Billy cheers!
Really Really Excellent your as good as I was back in the day...I'm 76 now keep up the creative work !
On a 30-31 you don't pinch the frame just 28-29 that looks screwy at the cowl
A+ FROM A 66 YEAR OLD , 3RD GENERATION , MACHINIST .. YOUR DOING GREAT ! THANKS ...
Love the longer videos! Amazing fabricator great content I’ve learned so much from this channel much appreciated.
Start your loving it Matt! Thanks for watching and supporting
Watching a genius at work, what better way to spend time on UA-cam.
Oh shucks lol thanks for spending your time here cheers!
That saw looks amazing! Just wanted to mention these longer videos are great. It takes me a few sittings, but I still never miss a minute of your content.
Just beautiful Karl, thanks for sharing!
You’re most welcome thanks for watching!
what a clever way to make a hood jig
You work is unreal. Your like David Copperfield performing magic. Beautiful!
You knocked that hood outta the park. Keep at the zephyr and make it perfect no matter how long it takes you. Perfection takes time.
Thanks man and I agree I definitely don’t want to compromise the end product of the zephyr by rushing. I will make a tool if I have to to make the job right. I think I need a reciprocating hammer now lol
Takes a death wheel to a brand new part without any hesitation. Definition of confidence.
Ha ha it needs to be cut it needs to be cut!
You had my heart ❤️ thumping with the bead roll but once again you nailed it !!! Fantastic video.
Lol I was trying not to think too hard about it because that would have ruined my day lol
Every once in a while the You Tube algorithm really nails it for me, and this channel immediately went to my subscription list, along with the European women’s high jump and pole vaulting vids, which are, uh, you know, different.
Ha ha ha glad I made the cut lol some test competition with the European women’s high jump
Crazy cool work. You explain everything very well, not just how but why. It's like the whole teach a man to fish thing. Thank you for your time.
Thanks for your feedback man I appreciate it! Cheers!
Another masterful demonstration!
Sure came to shape nicely. Hard work pays off!
Nice lathe! Making a radius manually isnt easy.
Can’t beat a cold saw. My PA saw took a lot of abuse before i toasted the blade.
Nice work Karl!
Thanks man! This is a fun and challenging project for me
Smart of you karl to put a fence on that bead roller that ensure a dead on bead all the time. You even had me nervous as you were rolling in that bead. LOOK's great...you nailed it Karl. Hood looks smart..nice job!!!
awesome, Karl! Just getting started watching. Looks like a lot of great things you are working out on this roadster!
Your talent and work ethic are amazing. Love to meet the person who instilled those values in you!
I really enjoyed your building the bead roller, and it's proven it's worth in rolling those beads perfectly. Very nice work, all of it. Thanks!
“I’m a little nervous.” Dude I was more nervous than you were! Great job.
Ha ha it’s always hard when you know you can screwed up at any second lol
Karl, I don't know what to say. ...
I guess I just watched a master craftsman work with his vast array of tools to create nothing less than hot rod nirvana, will have to suffice. ... Even the way you repositioned the car in your shop, by rolling one of the front tires around was an eye opener to me. What followed that was simply unbelievable. ... Karl, you are THE MAN!
Wow Martin thank you so much! Pretty much the nicest thing anyone’s ever said lol this was a fun and challenging project for me I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I don’t know why it’s easier to roll cars around by the wheel lol 😆
Hi Brenda! 👋 yeah u nailed it on the aftermarket parts that are supposed to be direct bolt on stuff but never seem to fit. Body panels are usually a nightmare and even things like getting headers to fit can be almost impossible without modification.
A joy to watch Karl. You are a craftsman for sure.
Nice work! Really enjoy watching your fabrication, the machines you make and the tooling you make for your machines.
Flawless. Absolutely gorgeous my friend. Impeccable craftsmanship as usual.
Thanks man cheers!
I use a urethane wheel on top when I’m rolling a radius. It’s an 8 inch caster (with a cast iron center) and I was able to purchase a bearing with a metric OD and an SAE ID which fit my particular wheel perfectly. It was inexpensive to put together and an absolute joy to use!
Yeah I have one that a friend made for me actually vulcanized rubber onto a cast wheel but I need to make the bearings for it lol I think it’s definitely worth having a Wheels that doesn’t need a band
That was a great piece of craftsmanship. Made a hood, made a tool and it looks perfect! You are the man!
Wow! This video was a master class in fabrication, tool making, and the thought process involved in building a hot rod! Outstanding! Thank you Karl. Keep moving forward!
You’re so welcome thanks for watching!
I'm always impressed with your patience. Sneaking up on those curves and then sneaking up on the edges to get perfect fitment.
This is definitely where most of the time goes. Thanks Philip!
Wow that guide fence is ingenious that's the koolest add on I've seen off the cuff ever, this is why I keep coming back to watch you do your skills an expose your talent. Thanks
Thanks man I’m pretty stoked out and came out myself! All out of scrap laying around the shop
Yet another awesome video. I love my Evolution saw, so much of an upgrade from a abrasive chop saw and still compact for guys like me with limited space that don’t really have room for a band saw.
I love the evolution saws. I have their hand circular saw and love how easy it cuts metal and especially how little of a mess it makes! I am planning on purchasing their bench chop saw as soon as I get my new shop finished. My old abrasive chop saws would sling crap everywhere in the shop. There would be abrasive grit and metal dust on the other side of my old shop. This will help sooo much with clean up and it cuts so much faster. And the metal doesn't get as hot as it did with the old abrasive chop saw which was basically grinding the metal. This comment is a year past when you actually got the saw amd I bet you're loving it!
Great video. Great work. Excellent detail. The Duval windshield will look awesome. We used to put them on custom built 1930s Mahogany Gentleman's Racers they have always been the classic Lake Rod Rat rod so to speak of the Boat world. We built them all from scratch from hand drawn designs to hand drawn patterns and frames. They were built with a classic vintage look sometimes with a steam punk and or Art Deco twist. They always looked so damn sweet.
This Rod will so killer with that Duval windshield frame for sure. It's the perfect touch
Karl compliments on that hood...man you take metal panel fabrication to another level...your thought ...planning... and execution is a class above the rest...thats what i can take away from todays lesson...thank you Sir...great respect...👍👍👍
You make it look so easy! Beautiful work as always. I am learning a lot from you, and I plan on taking what I’ve learned and applying it to a 1969 firebird. Replacing rear quarters and trunk and more. Thank you so much for everything you do and the beautiful work you do!
You’re so welcome thanks for watching! We just finished the metal work on a 68 Firebird for my dad last year!
Outstanding work, you’re a great teacher Karl ! Best video yet.
What an awesome end result!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That Evolution saw has been one of the best purchases I have made! Had a year and half on one blade with tons of cutting. DOM, moly, sq tubing and channel. Great video love the content!
one of my favorite vids. very detailed and explanatory. not that I'd ever tackle this.. but I have a stronger understanding now. Puddin's Fab shop has an Evolution and he friggin LOVES it.
You are very descriptive of each step that you are taking. I’m 74 and probably never do what you do. I always wanted to learn how to do what you do! Thanks!
Thanks Bruce!
Thank you for the time you spend showing us your talented work 😙
Great stuff Karl. You and Fitzee have really inspired me to break out the tools and burn some metal. It's really calming to spend the day focusing on getting lines right and doing fit up. Need a tool, make a tool lifestyle.
Absolutely! It’s like therapy
love the work, learned much and I have a tip for you. I use playdough to to find clearance issues... just plop a ball on trouble area put parts together as much as you can, remove and look at the clearance issue on the dough. works geat. cheers
As always, concise and on point. I've never been a fan of hoods, but if you're gonna do one, do it right! Looks great and the explaining the process of the radiator/shell inconsistencies was perfect. Im sure more than a few people out there are less worried after watching this. Can't wait to see more on this roadster in the future!
Thanks man glad you enjoyed this one! It was fun to make a hood from scratch and a little nerve-wracking with the bed lol
Really enjoyed watching this one so much I watched it twice! Well done man. The hood fits perfect! Also like the fence idea for the roller, might be taking some notes!
Thanks a lot Jordan!
Karl, your level of concentration is admirable. You are a very innovative young man. Thank you so much for the videos.👍👌✌️
Hood looks perfect! Great job as usual, that custom bead roller die worked out really nice!
Awesome job!! Those beads were perfect and finish the panel nicely.
I’m sure the beads will add strength and help the hood keep its shape.
Keep up the fantastic work!
This is so scientific as compared to the way young (unskilled) guys did it in 1968--the only hood I ever made was done by bending the flat sheet over gas welding bottles. we just bent the hell out of it by hand, trimmed with hand shears til we got it looking good. I bet that hood is still on that car today! Same guy still owns it!
Looking awesome!!!
Great work, looks amazing
Great job as usual Karl ! The Evoloution Saw is one of my most used tools in the shop and worth its weight in gold ! I'm sure you will enjoy this tool for many years to come. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge Karl !
I’m starting to notice how badly I needed one lol there are so many things are used for instead of a ZIP Cut
Karl always a pleasure to watch you make something from flat metal. Such craftsmanship.
Thanks Greg!
Another mind bending video! Honestly, I've learned more about metal work from watching your videos than the classes I've taken and the battered books collecting dust on my shelves. Your hands must be 80 grit when you're done but you sir, you are appreciated.
These are the best comments I read. Anytime I know somebody appreciates the videos this much and has learned from them, this is why I do this. Thank you so much man I’m so glad
Karl, just another wonderful project with the perfect amount of detail for us hot rod loving cats.
Beautiful work Karl! Keep em coming... cheers, Doug
You are so talented at metal work.It shows you love doing it. Love watching your shows.
Glad you love the videos man I definitely love the work!
Thanks for the video. Those bead rolls look factory. I've been struggling for someone to machine some bead roller dies for my 54 belair doors and no ones seems to know how. You made it look super easy. Thanks
No problem! My friend actually 3-D prints them. It works really well out of super hard plastic. You can take a profile of your panel and he will make a die for it. His name is Preston at Lakeview fabrication in Salmon arm BC
@@MakeItKustom Awesome! Thanks for the information. You have been the only one on UA-cam who has taken the time to help find where to make or get these dies. Thank you appreciate it
I'll be watching this more than once just another great video 🏁
Man, this video was chock full of stuff, and that bead roller is starting to look steampunk, I love it.
I laughed at the laugh and self cheering at the end ! I've done the same in the release of nervous tension and satisfaction at the final fit of a big step in a project. It just shows that the kid is still alive and well in us. The coupe is looking great!
Ha ha yeah Bruce sometimes you got to just make some noise lol I’ll never grow Up I hope
As usual, brilliant artwork in metal...thanks for sharing your ideas, skills and techniques!
Not just one of your best demonstrations, but one of the beset fab demos anywhere. Well done indeed!
Thanks very much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@@MakeItKustom the real value here is your vocalized thought processes, absent presumption. All too often folks with technical capacity lack the skills to be a good teacher, or the will to invest in documenting process- you bring the trifecta. Much thanks for your efforts.
Karl you do unbelievable work thank you for taking us you journey.
You are a true craftsman ! You've really upped the game for a lot of people. Hat's off to you, sir.
Thanks a lot Bob!
THAT IS ANOTHER LEVEL...Awesome. Thank you for sharing...from South Africa
Your videos are great, and you are always so positive and upbeat! Clearly a man who loves what he does 👌
Another great vid with great content & information, amazing to see how easy you make english wheeling seem so easy to do keep up the great work and content see you in your next video
With the rubber band it literally is that easy. Anybody can do this with time and attention! Thank you!
Gorgeous work Karl , all this stuff is such an antidote to todays mass market consumer mad society . Happy New Year and best wishes from Yorkshire England . Thanks a lot for sharing .!
Wicked Karl, great video and so much awesome info
The workmanship on this roadster is spot on. Everything you do is done with attention to detail. Love all the videos.
Thank you very much I’m so happy to be back on it
@@MakeItKustom I am working on a 36 Chevy truck. So your videos are very educational for me.
I'm a contractor so I have almost zero experience with metal work but I gotta give you credit boss! I have learned so much watching you work and explain what/How you do what your doing. I have applied a few of you tips in my field, I'm getting very interested in working with metal. Cheers brother!
Hey Carl, you really nailed that Hood. Well done.
Thank you for this one definitely showed great points and tricks without being boring.
Absolutely amazing work.
i know i am late to the game but i watch you all the time now. you and bad chad are my go to. the chop saw is worth every penny. i don't have that exact one but i have invested in a pretty good one in my opinion and I have a blade exactly like that and yes they cut excellent. I use it more than my band saw. Appreciate your show keep teaching us and motivating us.
Amazing craftsmanship, love all your videos.
Thanks Jan!
Great video. Many good ideas that I got from your job on this hotrod. I liked the tests on your brand new Evolution Saw. A great gift. You deserve. Thanks for good tips. Greetings from a Brazilian fan.
Thanks so much man I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’m pretty stoked on that saw actually it’s kind of crazy how well it cuts!
I love thoughts saws . They cut perfect with hardly any sparks!!!
Yeah pretty crazy actually can’t believe how cold the metal was when I picked it up
Wow, just wow! Amazing craftsmanship from a skilled artisan.
Ha ha thanks man appreciate it!
Great Work Karl! I just got finished with the Bead Roller video and to see your modifications and putting it to work on the hood of the Hot Rod was awesome. Hope you enjoy the Evo Saw, I just luv mine. That was impressive that it sliced through the hardened tool steel and you were able to pick it right up afterwards. Kept it Kustom! Cheers, Kevin
Thanks Kevin! Just loving this machine and tinkering with it. The table will be next! That saw seriously blew my mind. No coolant in the part stayed cool
Man, you make great videos. Perfect pace and insights as you go. Really appreciate you taking the time to do these so well. I need to do a hood in the upcoming future so this was killer! Thank you!
Class work Karl as per usual a lot of different things been done in the 1 video thanks for bringing us along with you and sharing the video with us
You’re so welcome thanks for watching Trevor!
Great video Karl, it had everything, it was like being in a time machine, time passed in a second, great work you are so skilled
Great work Karl, you never cease to amaze.
Thanks Mark cheers!
i'm so glad you are back on the roaster!. when you first started working on it, is when you got me hooked on your channel. everything you do is very informative and to the point. i do have to say being an old combo body guy, you had me at the edge of my seat when you did the bead roll on that hood. i've done my share of chop-tops and body drops to know how much work it takes fabricating panels and not have a mishap.
Ha ha yeah I was a little nervous on it. As you know it could’ve gone the other way lol
