- Pandit Birju Maharaj is internationally recognized as the greatest living exponent of Kathak, an Indian classical dance form. Accompanied by his foremost disciple Sushri Saswati Sen, Pandit-ji talks about the influence of nature and his surroundings in dance, and their efforts to grow and develop the art form. Accompanied by musicians, Pandit-ji recites intricate tukdas and demonstrates bhav, while Saswati-didi performs a small thumri.

Thanks to Talks at Google for sharing this video...such a gem! Maharaj ji and Saswati Sen ji sharing the joy of Kathak with everyone! It's such a pleasure to watch Maharaj ji speak with such child-like enthusiasm and excitement. The interviewer seems to have missed the fact that Saswati Sen ji is an experienced and accomplished artist in her own right - and started off on the wrong note with her. This session would have been so much better in Hindi with an interpreter/translator...It is sad that this video has not gained the popularity it deserves because the narrative and nuances of Maharaj ji's rich experiences are lost due to the language barrier - in stark contrast to his poetry recitation in Hindi!

Wonderful to see personalities who have really devoted their life in persuading dancing. Wish this episode was better produced . The camera failed to fully cover movements at some moments . This interview should have been conducted in Hindi and subtitled in English because one can see how they struggled to explain . This is universal heritage and it would not be too much if it is recorded again to perfection .

Thanks for telling some technicalities of classical Kathak Dance. If would have been more impressive show if Shushri Saswati Sen had put on proper Kathak Dance costume and makeup.
@@vaanigupta1532 I have not criticised her. It would have enhanced the show if she had put on Kathak ghungroos and some jewelry. Also wearing ghagra and salwar is more popular with Kathak dancers.

@@conscious3714 As a audience you want to see her in costume and well dressed ...no problem its not something wrong you've told...in kathak there is Aaharya abhinay means adorning ourselves with costumes and get ups as character... but here she is just giving a demo...YOU HAVEN'T SAID ANYTHING WRONG ...COZ YOU MIGHT NOT HAVING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT KATHAK...NO PROBLEM 🙂🙂🙂☺☺
