When you can play and sing your mind is opened up to every note in the chords you're playing. Perfect example is Kim Burrell,Stevie Wonder, Daryl Coley,& the list goes on. Enjoyed this..... even the Clark sisters play and sing not just Twinkie
Wow, well I thoroughly enjoyed her lilting through this song. Musically, this is so beautiful and refreshing. Who are any of you to scrutinize her approach to a song..and let's not confuse accidentals and key changes with going "off key" , accidentally. Have your preference, but don't devalue her style of singing just because it doesn't fit into your proverbial box.

W-O-W...beautiful tone. And yes, she is not out of tune or pitchy. Just has a gift to flow in and out of keys and minor note flourishes.

For all y'all having a problem with Ms. Nikki...I'ma need you to sing the original melody. These songs are older than old, and what she did to them makes me want to praise all over again. This isn't about riffing...She went off into a place that very few musicians and people get to go...she was in that expressive space and what she expressed to her Creator was awesome!!! We get a little too constrained with the technical...how many of you have actually just praised him? Sounds just like this
Reading all the comments about her riffs and runs...but you all have to understand she singing to a target audience. They live for this stuff. This isn't for a regular church service as the special number before the preacher. The vocal acrobatics overpower the lyrics but the people are happy to be entertained...so it's ok.

1:05 to 1:09 is the best part of this VID.....She sounded SO PURE and SO LOVING right there. Nikki has a voice that is great. Runs are a part of the Gospel Music genre. BUT I LOVE IT WHEN ARTISTS CAN EXERCISE SINGING STRAIGHT and be so inviting. That is such a strong point most people have no appetite for. MICHEAL FRANKS was a master of singing straight without vibrato. MARVIN WINANS also has a gift for that mature choice of approach. NIKKI ROSS is STILL a NOW GENERATION SINGER. Great job SIS.

i Love To hear her sing iam a musican myself was brought up around singers al In my family but the statement was made about all the rips And runa all through the song actually is a gift but it can also take away From the anointing that needs To touch someone thats just like a keyboard player that puts all he knows And learn In every song he plays or a Drummer being extra In his playing a singer also has to stay close to the pocket and not take the fullness out of the song this is from experience this is my opinion everyone is intitle to feel the way they feel this is open media

Yes the runs and riffs are way too much..but i don't think she's showing off. That just how she sings...I think that the more she's feeling Jesus the more the riffs come. She doesn't seemed to be phased by the reaction around her she's personally being taken in by the presence of the Lord.

@denoprofundo using runs as ascents, so well worded, is mostly how I would sing, if I could sing, and it is very awesome strategy. At the same time, the saturated vocal improvisation like Nikki does, and Rachelle Ferrell does, etc is very amazing, in a different way. Both styles have some very amazing layer that the other is not as strong in. I love both. But from an art perspective, them quieting down does not necessarily mean that they were not being more blown away with each new run.

@Dbux23 Only God knows if it's the anointing or not or who she's doing it for .... But as i said before i ( I felt it) because of the words not how she sung it ... See us a believers have to learn how to get into the spirit for ourselves and not have to wait on man or to see how someone sounds to get there ... It's just like when you go to church you shouldn't go there waiting for the pastor to get you in the spirit you should go there looking to get into the spirit yourself ...

@TeeBird504 as it turns out the anointing feeling thing is often subjective, and that's okay for now. I felt a flood of anointing and sincerity in worship, and I know I'm not alone there.

@MetriJay I agree, that representing the original melody is best. However, I feel we need to make exceptions for songs that we have heard 400 times before. That goes double for songs like "Total Praise" where the melody is all half notes and quarter notes.

Shes Dope for sure! All the activity makes people miss the message of the song and only get involved in the hype of what she did and not what she she said! Whats more important what she said or what she did???
