I remember when I was about 7 my family drove through the Simpspon desert. We got to Cameron's Corner and I pissed in all three states at once. Yep that's what I remember.
Cable ties are life savers! I cycled 2,000 miles across Portugal, Spain, France and England over five weeks this summer, my toolkit was a tyre lever, Swiss army knife and 25 cables ties. I used them all, plus six jubilee clips!
in michigan we have a lot of sand off road, really deep and soft sand too. and what we learned is fast speeds, soft front end (not to soft) and move your center of mass back
You're such a natural, effortless rider. Probably the best "amateur" out there. For someone like me who just started riding in my mid-20's, I'm not sure I can ever reach that level.
Love it out there. did it in 09 with a 990s 56 liters of fuel ,solo...what an adventure , keep up the Adventures Tom and crew! Man, did i count 3 sets of gloves Plus heated grips;}
What an adventure!! Going to do something like this with my two sons except with a jeep instead of bikes. Loving this series Tom, can't wait for more. Kinda reminds me of Ewan Macgregors trips, long way down and long way around.
Nice work dude. I've been across the Simpson a couple of times in a 4WD, can't imagine doing it on a bike. you guys are hardcore! Cameron's Corner brought back some memories...
One trick to having low PSI and non slipping inner tube / tire combo is to clean wash the whole thing, rim, tube and tire before installation. One variation i've tried is to use an older tube that i cut to fit over the rim (only that portion that usually rests on the rim), have that super tight against the rim, like really work for it to get it there, and talcum powder everywhere else except on that portion that's between the old cut tube sleeve and the functional tube. This has two effects, the older cut tube has super grip on the rim and in turn the inflated tube has grip on that so the rim and the tube stick together and the talcum powder makes the surface between the tube and the tire slippery, so if the locked bead slips on you, even if it does, it reduces the twist effect. It's not 100% but it's certainly better than sheared valves. I also keep a glue on pair of valves on my person, because you never know when you're gonna rip one off riding at low PSI. I mean, a puncture, no big deal, my oldest bike (which i ride like every few months) has a puncture glued with a strip of shaved rubber off the sole of my shoe and super glue, it's been holding on the front tire for ~3 years now. Either way numb rant aside awesome trip video so far, desert riding rocks, especially when you have a few types of terrain to play with.
Great Video and really enjoyed seeing the outback through your Go Pro as its much better than watching a TV production as its so real. Thank you for the experience.
what an awesome ride Tom! Super fun with great friends is what it is all about, I am so looking forward to planning a Smokey Mountain trip similar in the near future, since we don't have the dessert!
Is that an 'Awesome players' sticker? ;) I'd love to ride across Australia sometime...just got back to cold Sweden after some really nice weeks on the east coast and Tassie. Thumbs up guys!
I know you don't have the 690 anymore . But when you did did you notice when you shim to your valves if there are noisy. I just resend my valves and they became very noisy they were tight so I gave a little bit more space but within spec and they're super noisy.
beeza copper i meant specifically what is costing so much...you could put brembos, a full akro exhaust, ohlins suspension, the best tires/rims, skid plate, a stronger swingarm, headlight and bodykit for less than 10k in parts i cant figure out why its costing so much... maybe there is carbon fiber parts?
HeadCamThis you can get an EVO2 adventure bodykit for around a 1000 bucks for the ktm 690... i think thats what this guy has, if it its almost identical. and then you could even sell the old OEM fairings like like 2-3 grand literally making a profit by modding the bike lol
nice video tom... out of curiosity, what do you do that allows you to afford all of your moto adventures? are the youtube royalties that good? anyway keep up the good times
I remember when I was about 7 my family drove through the Simpspon desert. We got to Cameron's Corner and I pissed in all three states at once. Yep that's what I remember.
Hahahahahha that is the most creative thing to do
Best memories as a child
Yeah, if you could upload like 40 of these vids, that'd be great.
I didnt realise how fun my own country can be. need a desert bike !
+R1Bayside Haha dude our country is like 90% desert! And it's awesome!
Yeah man !!
Cable ties are life savers! I cycled 2,000 miles across Portugal, Spain, France and England over five weeks this summer, my toolkit was a tyre lever, Swiss army knife and 25 cables ties. I used them all, plus six jubilee clips!

Really loving this series so far, thank you.
Really enjoying these videos, very well done. It's as good as a tv reality show!

Have you been to Wolf Creek? I heard there's a real bloody good time to be had there.
those Dakar 690s looked pretty awesome!!
what an awesome ride Tom! Super fun with great friends is what it is all about, I am so looking forward to planning a Smokey Mountain trip similar in the near future, since we don't have the dessert!
Thoughts and prayers for SeBs family and friends. Keep your head up Tommy.
Really loving this series. Honestly some of your best vids. Keep'm comin
gave you a thumbs up for the 3rd gear loaded bike wheelie!
This is going onto the bucket list for sure haha.
Is that an 'Awesome players' sticker? ;)
I'd love to ride across Australia sometime...just got back to cold Sweden after some really nice weeks on the east coast and Tassie.
Thumbs up guys!
had an early start this morning Tom. still on dessert time?
Awesome work Tom. Was there a "that's what she said" near the end ??
Great vids. Makes me wish I kept my Super Tenere but I don't live anywhere close to that type of terrain.
That was a really good video. Did you happen to glance at the night sky when out there away from all the city lights? What was it like?
You amazing person. Putting out those videos for Seb and the fans! Thanks man!
Tom you should come up to the Territory for the Finke Desert Race!
I think the key to Jakes wheelies are loud screams and random words. Haha love these vids! Such beautiful scenery and such awesome machines!
That ride looks amazing...
That looks like one hell of a treck, man.
I should do it one day.
best series ever
Nice! Glad you added a map and route at the start! I see my comment last video may have been noticied
Can't wait for more! Seriously loving this series :)
Love the 690, but all the riding I do is with the misses on the back, would this work with the two of us???
I know you don't have the 690 anymore . But when you did did you notice when you shim to your valves if there are noisy. I just resend my valves and they became very noisy they were tight so I gave a little bit more space but within spec and they're super noisy.
Loved it mate! Can't wait for the rest.
+JoeJoe Moto dude that 690... did he say it rides 1000 miles a tank?!?!?
+King Trollington III Epic looking bike hey! 1000 kilometres, which is about 620 miles.
ahhhh. still though ! holy crap man that is legit!!!
The editing you can get outa these videos from your own helmet cam is amazing... keep it up!
Makes me want to get a motorbike!! Love it!
Thank you for the great video! Which tyres do you prefer?
Lovin these Simson videos man
Love this adventure ride. Looks like bakerXderek is loving it two
man tom that is really cool u got me waiting for episode like a tv show
Hope u having a good time.
What a great trip!
"packed to the rafters" fucking lost it.
Keep the videos coming - the longer the better.
Man that was great, looking forward to the next vid. RSM8
Awesome vid man, any outfit renting advbikes to cross the desert?
Makes me want to do a trip like this, if you don't mind me asking but how much was fuel all up?
A tip for you: Use black cable ties since they can take the UV-rays. White Cable Ties will break after being expoused of too much UV-rays :)
how is the bike 100k? does anyone know where the costs are coming from?
I'm wondering the same thing.
Parts, tuning and labour it's full blown Dakar racing bike.
beeza copper i meant specifically what is costing so much...you could put brembos, a full akro exhaust, ohlins suspension, the best tires/rims, skid plate, a stronger swingarm, headlight and bodykit for less than 10k in parts i cant figure out why its costing so much... maybe there is carbon fiber parts?
+MrTopGunnar Bodykit is not cheap for starters-
HeadCamThis you can get an EVO2 adventure bodykit for around a 1000 bucks for the ktm 690... i think thats what this guy has, if it its almost identical. and then you could even sell the old OEM fairings like like 2-3 grand literally making a profit by modding the bike lol
Seen my home town pub sticker there trundle hole !
Nice vid. What tires did you use for this ride and how did you like them?
Looks amazing, it's great to see adventure bikes actually being adventured ;)
What have you done as far as upgrades to your 690? Suspension? Fuel capacity? load capacity?
I love the @awesomePlayers canada Sticker on the guys' Jacket at 6:08 ;)
Hey Tom, i was just wondering is their many stars that you can see while your out in the outback?
Great video’s, how well does the MSR work for fuel? Is it one and done?
I'm loving this series :)
lovin this so much! its like long way round from years back! its my dream to do a ride across Australia =)
Fantastic video!
RidingWithTom we need wheelies like this on the S1000rr !!!!
Much illegal very police
Biggest thing I saw out there as a kid was people took a while to discover on the sand you need to let the tires down a bit.
Wow. Nice adventure.
i can get used to this schedule haha,
Love the desert vids!
Love your vids tom, been waiting for this one since you posted the one of you guys getting ready in the garage :) Have a good one!
Hey guys, do you run the chain dry in such adventures? After riding about 2 kilometers on gravel road, my bike's chain become dry. What to do?
Yay, part two! :) Loved the first one! Great series :)
How many more parts will there be?
Need to start changing up gears when you wheelie man
Wow that would be so cool riding trough a wide desert road in the dark, dodging kangaroos!
i hope that seat was comfy, i couldn't imagine doing that ride on a stock ktm seat !!!
Haha definitely not a stock ktm seat, it's a wide seat made by seat concepts
13:22 Looks great fun flying through like that! #Jealous
Would LOVE to do something like this one day.
nice video tom... out of curiosity, what do you do that allows you to afford all of your moto adventures? are the youtube royalties that good?

My curious question is how did you deal with fuel? ive been wanting to do a little distance on my ktm 300 exc but it tears through fuel hahahaha
Awesome video !
Nice awesome players patch 😄
You should use a wind protector for the mic.
