    I've been watching all of your videos for the past 2 days and they're so great. You give awesome tips and a true glimpse into hiking the AT. I'm a senior in college and graduating in December, planning on starting my thru hike with my best friend from high school in March 2016. Can't wait to follow your PCT hike!

    Thank you for posting these state by state. I tried to do a thru hike last year but it didn't work out (financially) so I want to do a section hike this year but wasn't sure which section I wanted. These videos are helping me decide!

    I grew up in Cheshire, MA and we hiked Mt. Greylock every year growing up on Columbus day for the Ramble. Also saw plenty of hikers growing up that would stop overnight at the church I went to as a kid, (St. Mary's) in Cheshire. Researching doing the hike myself in either 2017 or 18. Great vids Red!

    Love your series on the trail.
    20 years ago, i camped on October Mountain Camp ground , had the very back site that was between the stream and the Trail.... a pretty steep part that comes into the campsite.... We talked with several hikers and watched their hike.... I was disappointed that you didn't get that part of the trail here. it would have brought a good memory.... Happy Trails

    Thanks for sharing your adventure!!
    I grew up in Stone Mountain (live in AL now). When we were teenagers, my buddy and I used to hike all over the approach trail, Cohutta Wilderness area, and the AT (back in the early 80's). One of my favorites was Dick's creek to Bly Gap.
    I have always wanted to thru hike, but alas, never took the chance.
    I currently have a plan to thru hike when my daughter goes off to college (in another 10 years). Just cannot do it right now. Too much to miss at home. But that gives me plenty of time to do shorter section hikes! Maybe I can get my daughter to go with me then. She likes to camp, but backpacking is not her thing at this age (8). I think it would take a miracle to get my wife to thru hike with me!
    Thanks again! Looking forward to the finishing videos!

      I saw many father daughters out there hiking this year, definitely keep that dream alive and keep your knees in good shape :) Body weight doesn't matter so much, trust me I saw men hiking that were obese when they started and the ones who made it to the end you would never recognize! Anyone can make it if they have the mental strength and decent knees. Love dicks creek used to fly fish it all the time!

    I see you just posted this yesterday. I will be looking forward to seeing Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. I don't know if I like the new camera even though it did solve the problem with moisture in your lens. It almost seems like the colors are not as vibrant in the videos or maybe the resolution is not set right. Your editing is excellent and the videos are great.

    Yeah guys, that was a timber rattler. Down here in Georgia, you'd have to question whether it was a rattler or a Canebrake. Both look the same but a Canebrake won't rattle. Not sure if they make it that far north though.
    A Copperhead has, how shall I say this, a distinct copper color. Hard to miss.

      @muleyscousin6258 9 років тому

      Will Wood I recommend (from 26 years of military experience) you consider some Altama Boots with the Panama Grip. They self clean out the tread a lot quicker than most other grips. Look at these two links:
      www.altama.com/products/4156-tan-desert-mil-spec-boot
      and
      www.altama.com/products/8553-sage-green-us-vulcanized-boot
      I like them both and they have a steel shank that makes them great in rocky territory.

      Didn't see the movie but read most of the book. Kindof depressing and she pretty much hiked some sections skipped other sections to her finishing point, don't know if she made it there, bridge of the gods at Oregon Washington border. My favorite types of books are the ones that really describe the trail aka AWOL on the Appalachian Trail.

    • @Bierce88
      @Bierce88 9 років тому

      yea according to the movie she made it to the bridge but it jumped around way to much one second she will be hiking then shell just go into a random flashback for 10 minutes which totally killed the pacing it was more flash backs than hiking

    When you're hiking alone in this area, do you make noise every once in a while to let any potential bears in the area know that you're there

    • @RedBeard0924

      No the Bears usually run as soon as they see you. If they don't run right away I just knock my trekking poles together and yell and they then decide to move on.
