What man makes, the sea will break is how the saying goes, and after sailing over 3000 miles across the notoriously rough Indian Ocean, Nandji 2 has some problems needing our attention. We are now planning to sail over 700 miles from Reunion to the island of Madagascar. But First, we need to fix this boat..
Our generator doesn't work so we cant make water but even if the generator did operate, our water maker is having issues... Our sails are torn and need to be stitched. Our dinghy has a hole.... We have a lot to sort before we can go to sea...

“Keep going dad you’re almost there” priceless!! Best comment ever😅😅😅
Little heart melter 🙈❤️
Happy birthday Yosh! Tallula is the sweetest, cutest, most wonderful child...... You guys are amazing parents!! 🤗💞
Thanks so much 💗
"What Man can make the Sea will break" is the most succinct summing up of boat life I have ever heard.
I hope you had a happy birthday Yosh. Isn't mechanical work fun? not... hey, at least you get offered a lot of troubleshooting ideas from all your friends and fans on YT. I'm certain you will master it like a boss, you ALWAYS do!
Yosh…when you test a circuit utilize something that will pull or load the circuit..a digital meter won’t be able to replicate the fault / issue.
Use a test light or a bulb that’ll pull some amps.
This will give you an accurate data.. and it’ll show you which circuit/ wire isn’t able to carry a load.
Just a thought , wish you and yours a very safe and uneventful passage.
Love your channel
Be safe and enjoy each other..time goes by way too fast.
Happy Birthday Yosh. Thanks for the video. Love seeing Talulla, so sweet and such a big helper.
"I clean the window", she is growing up so fast and smart besides being a beautiful young lady. I bless you all on your journey with smooth sailing. Happy Birthday Yosh. Blessings for a new year
First of all, happy birthday Yosh! You are becomming a wizard at these repairs especially with Tallulas guidance! She is involved with everything and is not shy to tell you all about it! Love it! Soon onward to Madagascar and beyond. Note: good security set up. Enjoy!
Happy Birthda, Josh! You three are so great! We watch you from the beginning. ALL THE BEST FROM Middle of Germany..And Talula is so sweet: keep going dad, so sweet !!!
electrical troubleshooting is usually a nightmare... chin up mate.. youll get it! Great episode!!!
Been following your adventures for a while now and as great as they have been the best thing has been watching Tallulah grow into a young lady.
Keep up the good work.
Boat life! Somehow you guys always get it working so i have complete faith. Happiest of birthdays Yoshi👍And don't worry - we won't tell Bonita you drilled holes in her nice cutting board! 😉🤫 ...Oh hi Bonita! 🤗😂 Cheers legends! ❤
shut down switch/solenoid shuts fuel to the engine. power switch up and fuel shut off eliminated. temporarily bypass if possible.
Oh dear beautiful you all, pausing so quick at this video, because Tallulah has a new job that she is excited about and excelling at! Window cleaning! My heart is swelling at her excitement and she sees the positive outcome! Perfect Parenting❤❤❤
1999... we sailed from Durban to Mayotte and Dar Es Salaam .. The engine would not start . I used the inflatable pump of the dinghy and pressurised the fuel tank. It started .. Had to do the this a few times.... dirty fuel. Replace fuel filter and maybe drain fuel tank . Safe sailing
You will figure out you are very good at eliminating problems. Your boat is very beautiful so glad your family is having a great adventure
Yosh, happy birthday!🎉 Heartwarming to read that the tech guys think with you & advise how to troubleshoot shoot. Thank you tech guys!!
Thanks
Your little one is growing up to be unafraid of the sea and of the camera, well done!
Great to see you guys again! Happy belated Birthday Yosh! 🍻🍻🇦🇺 Tallula is growing up SO fast & just love her banter! 💖 Must say a perfect sponsor with Security Co!! 👍☺️
Hi me again. Pausing at 12:53! Good going on getting security Yosh!! Bonita: Yosh is using your cutting board to install!!😂
Gasp, never rat out the Yosh. Smiling
Happy Birthday, Yosh!!!
Happy Birthday Yosh 😊
🎁🥂🍾Happy Belated Birthday, Yosh! Love you guys. It's such fun watching 'Lula grow. Her chirpy, little voice makes me smile. Safe travels. ❤
Thanks!
Yosh! Find out if your oil pressure sensor needs a High or Low signal to be good. Give it that signal with a resistor to ground (LOW) or resistor to 12 volts (HIGH). essentially jumping out the oil sensor and see if the engine will run. Probably should make sure you actually have oil pressure - maybe use a manual gauge. It would be good to have a simple screw in gauge on the boat anyway. Oil pressure sensors do fail regularly. And of course - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Great advice, i did bypass the oil sensor and everything was okay. Yes, oil sensors are an issue regularly, I thought it was sensor issues but turns out it was…. You will have to wait til next video 😂
@@FrothLyfeSailingNandji Glad you got it fixed !! I can wait for the next video to find out. :)
Y'all are just so lovely! I feel your aggravation w breakdowns and parts! I'm praying for an easier time of it! If I could sail w any channel it'd be yours!
A very happy b-day Yosh.. 🥮🍺 Ur little daughter is such a cute clever girl.. 💕
I use Reolink on my 53ft Trimaran , quite a big system , but yeah hooked up to starlink .I also have a large monitor set up in the galley so can see tinny's come and go past the boat as i have limited windows on the trimaran .
Happy barfdaey too !
Sounds like you have a nice little set up!! We are loving ours, especially the motion sensor light that comes on with movement! So handy! Stoked to have it!
@FrothLyfeSailingNandji yes I have 2 with auto tracking on the mast and a 180deg camera on each side and front and back and some of their cheap cameras on the inside as the rear quarters will be the engineering Dept with the milling machine and lathe set up with welding 🤣.
If ever in Morton Bay Qld hit me up. LoL , usually got the home brew on .
Happiest Birthday Young Captain! Hope you made family time to celebrate you Yosh!❤
Maybe try disconnecting the low oil pressure sensor lead. I have heard they go bad. be sure to replace asap as it protects the engine.
Well done Nandji family/crew overcoming the challenges ⚡️🧿Top Stuff⚡️👍All the Best to you all 🇦🇺🐉🌺🐝🍄🐸
Great captain with a stunning crew .. go young man .. happy birthday .. think a cold beer will help the thought process .. look after mum and the kids first
Happy birthday Yosh. Enjoy it and may there be many more. 🍻🍰
Yosh, the Amazing Mr. FixIt. It is good that you have so much patience Yosh. If not you would be bald from pulling out all of your hair. I also think Bonita must be a calming influence.
Happy birthday Yosh! Much love from the coast of Maine 🤙 ❤️
EVERY DAY SHOULD BE CHOCOLATE DAY !!
Happy Birthday Yosh! Electrical problems are always frustrating. I am sure you will figer out the problem.
Love the videos ❤
Yosh, hope you had a great birthday! Happy belated! Hope you get that gremlin worked out of the generator. Any ideas off UA-cam?
Good on yas, lots hugs and frothin from Home, ur all looking really well, and little one is growing too fast. Hugs for Marley too.🇦🇺🐶🤘🤙
Just remember Yosh, if you can't fix it with a hammer it's an electrical fault.
Speaking my language!!
😂😂😂😂 thank you ! I understand the world a lot better now.
"Over 1000 dollars " that's is absolutely crazy!!!!that is a rip off. Happy Birthday Yosh🎉
looking forward to next episode to find out what the fault was!
happy birthday Yosh. fair winds
Hope you get it sorted x
A small donation towards your repairs! Much love 💕
Much appreciated! ❤️
I had the same issue with my generator. I also changed the solenoid but the issue was a faulty oil pressue sensor and the control board.
Hey Josh, I had a similar issue at our boat and the cause was a clogged hole ( direktly at the fuel filler Plug) of the air breathing Hose to the fuel tank, good luck
@22:52, next I'd be testing your sensors. That motor should have an oil pressure and coolant temp sensor and if either fail it will ground out (or open) the circuit shutting off the fuel cutoff solenoid.
Happiest birthday wishes Yosh. 🌬⛵️🌏👙⛱️🕶🩳🤿🎣🦀🐟🐋🐠🐬☀️🇦🇺
Boat always another 1000$. Great episode guys
Happy Birthday 🎂
My generator had a similar problem and I discovered that the water temp sensor was not working. I could start the generator but when I let the pre-heat off it stopped working (pre-heat over-rides both the oil and water temp sensors). I put a jumper wire on to bypass the sensor and it ran fine until I could get a new sensor. Good luck.
Thanks for the upload love from sa
Talula is such a darling 😊
also Happy Birthday Yosh
Im here in Jeffrey’s bay and really wish te meet you guys
Try and put direct power on the sensor with a switch and see if that works? Check the wiring or the connectors sometimes it looks like the wires are connected but its not under the insulation????
I don’t have experience with water makers but I work with RO plants. The membrane looked dark at one end. If it was a bit slimy it is biological fouling and should be at the front of the membrane. Be sure to use your water maker every 48 hrs just to flush. Can be just for a few min. Pickle if not using for more than a week. Pickling won’t clean. Caustic cleans biological fouling.
It’s best to run it frequently for short periods and not infrequently for long periods. If you run it frequently I suspect you won’t have problems.
If you don’t have to I would run it instead of pickling it as well if that’s an option (you’re on the boat but not using it). Pickling just removes oxygen to stop biological growth.
if you decide to go down the east coast of africa ,stay well outside or well inside the 100 fathom line , its notorious for freak waves
We had calm conditions sailing the wild coast and enjoyed the fast current!
It may be time to clean out the fuel supply line at the 90 degree fittings to the generator as they can become blocked from all the pump seal fibers from all the pumps before it gets to the boat. I have had this problem before and the engine started and stopped just like yours, had to pull out a fox tail of crap from a banjo fitting and then it was all good. Oil pressure sensor?. looking forward to finding out what the cause of the problem is. Wish I was there to help.
Your diesel engine no go is almost certainly blocked fuel pipe or tank outlet or valve. If in doubt its alwsys fuel
all that rockin rollin on passage really stirs EVERYTHING up and restricts the filter........sounds like barely enough fuel to 'start' ....but not enough to RUN or make power..........FILTER...........FILTER.........and filter........or WATER in fuel......design a filter cross-over circuit with 2 filters so ya can flip a valve without having to spin filters while underway (be sure to pre-bleed fitlers) ..........usually a filter gums up gradually / provide some clue............. you'll sort it out, and be all the more experienced for it...........keep the faith...........ya have a beutyfull boat (and family)..........
Are you sure its not a fuel problem, or does your sensor, control that?
The more I watch sailing channels the more I am convinced you have to be a diesel mechanic before you learn to sail. Everybody old en new boats struggle with keeping motors running.
Yes but we all start somewhere!! We didn’t know anything about diesel motors until buying a boat. Nandji 1 came with a diesel mechanics book which was studied HARD! This is our first generator which Yosh knew nothing about until we moved aboard Nandji 2. Yosh is trying to figure it out and fix it for the first time here. You dont have to know everything before you buy a boat but you do have to be willing to learn and figure things out, also asking for help is a big one that doesn’t come easy for some .. things will break.
Keep at it… 👍🍻🇦🇺
Hey guys are you ok? Your very quiet... missing the videos.
Hey Josh, just an idea 💡 I am not there but how is your fuel water separator looking 👀 does it have a lot of water in it ! Water in diesel will start n stop 🛑 on you !
I still say Lula will be editing before we know it and I'm so happy for all of you including seeing Marley enjoy some freedoms...sending you a big hug from Calgary, Canada.
happy birthday ... hope your day improves . [have you tried bypassing oil switch to see if it keeps running?
Try ordering from Durban or Capetown SA should be cheaper
wire the sensors out one by one and that should tell you which is at fault.
Something to said for a simple boat isn’t there! Good luck.
Is there such a thing? 😂 if it floats it will give you problems 😂
Yosh. like you said most Gen set have a oil pressure lach circuit to hold off for a short time to allow the engine to build pressure before sensing if it there at the point it is checked. most happen when the start circuit is completed and a timing circuit hold it latched for that time period. not knowing which Gen Set you have difficult to give a better ideas with out seeing the Circuit diagram for your unit. big or small most all need oil pressure to keep fuel flowing as a safety . If you would share the info I can look at circuit diagram and maybe help. noted all the white wire is another way that they keep you having to call their repairman
❤
wait till you feel the wind in Cape Town
You could have a bad oil sending unit that shuts the generator off.shouod not hard to find a replacement locally. Take it out and take it to the local part store.
The local parts store is called the internet 😂
My Reolink caught 2 guys trying to steal my car yesterday morning.
At 24:11 shouldn't you take off the price tag/bar code off the filter first? It looks like it's still wrapped in shrink wrap.
Little Miss will be a Machanic 😂
Does the genset have a little red breaker, I've seen these stick after tripping, they don't pop out even though they've been tripped. If it does have one, remove it and tap it and it may pop out so you can push it back in to reset it.
Good thinking. There is no e stop as our generator was made before that was a thing haha there is a fault breaker that trips from the sensors, but this is okay. Have bypassed this and still issue...
@FrothLyfeSailingNandji that's the breaker I'm talking about. Is the unit a onan mdkd6.5 with the 3cyl kubota. I've seen the breaker cause issues the same as yours a few times. It's a nightmare to diagnose.
P.m if you like.
Can you bypass oil sensor to see if it will run . just a thought
Yes did this. By passed all sensors and turns out it isn't a sensor issue... the plot thickens
What a mess!
All motor pressure and flow sensors can be bridged out for a few seconds to see if they are the culprit just don’t do it for longer as you may have a doggy oil pump and that will not do the motor any good.
bummer about the gen set ... it almost seems like the ignition switch is malfunctioning ,, the motor starts , but when you release it ,,, it dies ..hmmmm...
murphy switches (sensors) are bypassed while cranking..........there is a 'brain module' that determines how long to run without a proper permission.........also WD-40 is a miracle when chasing suspect wiring......it repels water and helps reduce oxidation........but do wiggle ALL connections, and spray..........
😀😀👍👍❤❤
On older cars, if it's a one wire sensor, we unhook it and ground it out to check the sensor. If it a two wire plug, unhook it and jump the two wires together. More than two wires I don't have a clue.
# perhaps some cracked injector lines?
No fuel leakage

Burpees put way too much stress on anyone other than Olympic athletes. You will wear out your knees, etc, not a bad sacrifice for an Olympian, but I am guessing you are not going for a lot more than "staying in shape." You are getting tons of exercise just living on a boat, you really need to start considering yoga. Make those knees last until you are 80. Go easy, now, make that wonderful body last. Yoga, you are going to love it.
u need electric bike can carry 4 persons
Love the channel but could you please go back to the old style of showing more of what you see and talk less into the camera please?
Your cam records on an SD card on the CAM , a robber will take your cam and all video evidence with. Hopefully it can record offsite via your Wifi.
Happy Birthday
wau, nice girl-baby
Hi happy birthday please anything generator related i have 20 years experience with it find my email for any question on my website
Ps there are 3.wires on the solenoid one to pull it in and then second circuit which is much less consuming to keep it in without over heating the governor in the engine regulates the fuel flow more or less fuel according to the load present
If the oil sensor is stuck wash it in petrol and shake it to in stick the old oil to get out or maybe you are not producing voltage on thee main alternator that will also cause a shut down
