- Men work on the assembly line at a Bajaj Chetak scooter factory in India. It is the only major component of Bajaj’s scooters that is put together on the plant premises. The parts are sourced from various vendors and are assembled by the hardworking hands of men clad.
Standing in front of each other, the workers complete their part of the engine assembly and move onto the next mill.
The roles carried out by each of the workers are flexible and change from time to time ensuring that every hand on the assembly floor is capable of replicating the other. If a worker is unable to fit a part onto the engine, then the production line stops and the total output time of the line is recalculated to consider the time it will take to fix the defect or issue on hand.
The Bajaj Chetak was a popular Indian-made motor scooter produced by the Bajaj Auto company.] The Chetak is named after Chetak, the legendary horse of Indian warrior Rana Pratap Singh.
Originally based on Italian Vespa Sprint, Chetak was an affordable means of transportation for millions of Indian families for decades and is lovingly called Hamara Bajaj (Our Bajaj).
Around 1980, the Vespa-licensed design was replaced with an all-new in-house design that shared the same general appearance and style. During its heyday its chief competitor was LML NV made by LML India as a licensed copy of the Vespa PX 150. In the face of rising competition from bikes and cars, Chetak lost ground in India, and production was discontinued in 2005.

Only Financially stable families could afford a Scooter.
Middle class and lower class families couldn't even comfortably afford a bus ticket or traveling in an auto.
Only the Upper class could afford a car.
Upper middle class during those days wasn't like today's.
Today, lower class families can afford a car.
That's why, there has been huge competition and imbalance in living ways.

First in my young age, I was using "Vespa". Afterwards changed to Bajaj and later to Chethak. About 20 yrs back I sold my Chethak since came to gulf. Still the sweet memories of riding a Chethak is in mind at this age of 62. Hope Bajaj may introduce a new version of "Chethak" soon because no other scooter can overcome "Chethak".

I had 1998 Chetak and sold it in 2007, we forgot to change the engine oil for the first 10 years, and no maintenance, but later we realized. But still, until end, it was running.

My Dad still use the Bajaj Chetak and I love riding it. The say is always right Hamara Bajaj (Our Bajaj). No scooter can't be replicated like Bajaj Chetak (likewise 150 cc engine) . It's an legendary scooter. ❤️. I even clocked 100 kmph in Bajaj Chetak.
I touched 80Kmph but it was scary, that's why I don't want to go above that. But powerful engine.

I love bajaj chetak- i used to take my whole family for a ride i Hyderabad city and really enjoyed a lot.
I miss my DAD .....My school days....my childhood,,,......my collage days.....we brothers and sisters have enjoyed a lot on this scooter.....today i own a couple of cars but those 15-20 lakes car don't give the fun has we did on this scooter......i cant forget.Our every Sunday special Trip to garden or circus or fun fair,Diwali,Ganesha chaturti festival shopping all on this scooter.......miss my all old days.......wish to buy one even if i don't drive i would like to keep in my home as my childhood and as my FATHER MEMORIES...... BEST MEMORIES OF MY LIFE

This was the speed machine in those times. What an engine, what a pick up. Not to forget, what were those days. This scooter could do a 100kmph as well. Nothing can match these 2 stroke machines.

Thanks for the nostalgic trip. At one time Chetak was the most loved and used scooter (in spite of its problems). I occasionally rode Chetak though I did not own one. I used Vespa 150NV (a similar vehicle) for 21 years, loved every moment of it.

I have one from 97' white and green, my dad came whit it fresly painted but whithout the gas wire, back right turn ligth and awry steering tree years ago, I loved it since the first time but I never have the time or money to do someting whit it until two monts ago, when I started the engine was sticked because I didn't turn on in two years but some fresh 2T oil in the cylinder for one week, wash the carbouretor and the gas tank and turned on!, all the initial problems gets solved by a friend and myself (we don't know anything of mechanic) now I AM learning to drive a bike whit it, sadly the gearbox dosen't pass from second and the paint job is mistreaded but make it run it again make me very happy; I understand why those beauties are soo loved in India
Restore it, make a video on restoration and post here.

My father owned it in 1998..and still rides it. I also ride it. The rider seat has best shock absorber.. .It is metal Greg same as shown in video.. it's true beast.. recently purchased XUV 300...but I would like to ride Bajaj Chetak for next 10 more years.

There is no comparison to Vespa. It is robust,reliable easy to maintain and spare wheel. I am using 1970 model till now.Though availability of spares is a big problem now in Pakistan,but import from India is a helping to maintain it.I wish I could import one from India. I will celebrate its golden jubilee in March 2020.

They launched new fuel delivery system with side draught carb initially from spaco in 2003 then mikuni in 2005, which need not tilting before starting.

Before calling it as shit, you must have done some research on it. There was a time when whole India used to love it; and many many of us like me still love it. Truly Nostalgic.
Pinak Oza one of my friend still uses the old Bajaj chetak, and he has kept it in good condition.
Savitha Naveen Yes true, for many it is their Heart Throb :-). My dad used to use Bajaj Super with side-car; later I too used Bajaj scooter for few yrs and then Bajaj 100cc bike. But now in Canada, I miss them!
We can only hope and pray that they will start importing them into Canada, the Japanese bikes are just TOO expensive...

Now this reminds me of my uncle's (mamaji) green RSG 8408 Bajaj scooter which he bought in 1978. Ran over 50000 kms without any trouble till 2008. Thanks HAMARA BAJAJ.
