The Man With the Golden Gun is probably the most underrated. Superbly entertaining, a slammin' good villain, a unique henchman, incredible locations, and even MI6 showing up in a sinking abandoned ship. Unappreciated by me would be Casino Royale. Never connected with it. Backwards structure, and all the good stuff is at the casino. After that there's no tension left.

Out of all of these movies, the one that least deserves to be unappreciated is License to Kill. Even if you don't like the style of it, there's so many amazing elements in LTK that are far superior to the other's mentioned. Above all Timothy Dalton absolutely nails the character, especially the "compliments of Sharkey" moment, which is one of the most badass in the entire franchise. Also Sanchez is an amazing villain, the Bond girls are great, Q gets some of his best scenes, and the action set pieces and stunts are really impressive. It's just a really well put together movie, even if it doesn't necessarily have the fun moments associated with the other films.

You what sucks? Something like that will never happen again. The 50s-90s was such a unique time for movies in that franchise rights weren't as ironclad as they are now and studios have such a rigid set of rules. Like Pierce Brosnan is never gonna play Bond in a movie again. It's sad but it's true. And can you imagine a Never Say Never Again scenario happening in 2023? Absolutely not haha. QoS is the second best Craig film (after CR, of course) and I will die on that hill. The editing during the action sequences is jarring but I actually feel it was the most traditional Bond film out of all that Craig did. Dominic Greene wasn't the most charismatic villain but he felt like a good, modern Bond villain who cared more about personal power/gain than destroying the world. Olga Kurylenko was great and her character struck a fine balance between being a strong, capable Bond girl while also maintaining some vulnerability. The biggest mistake they made with the Craig films, in my opinion, was trying to make it one continuous narrative across the films and later trying to tie it all into Spectre and Blofeld when they had already established "Quantum" as a similar idea. After QoS, they should have pursued the "Quantum" group further while dropping the "Bond is an emotional wreck and haunted by his past" since the end of QoS neatly ties up the Vesper plotline and shows how Bond has grown.

Always worth revisiting! My underrated pick (now a favourite) is FYEO. Generally, you go in with low expectations, appreciate the really good points and are more forgiving of negatives. That said, making it to the end (first half is pretty good) of DAD deserves a medal! Spectre is my joint favourite Craig (along with CR). Not without narrative issues, but dude, Bellucci! The wrecking ball Bond, love it. LTK is for sure underrated (as opposed to bad!) - people struggle to get over the '80s-ness, but time will forgive. DAF? Beyond Wint and Kidd? Not so much, but an awful book too. And VTAK? My first cinema Bond: Duran Duran, Walken - pure nostalgia. But a weak girl and Walken aside, lacking impact.

I will concur with a previous poster that I love the positive energy of this video. I think a commonality with this group of films that you chose is the performance of the lead actor: Connery is so much more engaged in DAF than YOLT; Roger brought his A-game to AVTAK, etc. The one film that you watched that I no longer categorize as underrated is LTK. To my astonishment, I have rated it above TLD in recent rankings myself, and it’s easily the one Bond film (like OHMSS before it), that has been more greatly appreciated by the newer generations of Bond fans when earlier fans had dismissed it. To answer your question, not long ago I would have said Thunderball or FYEO was the underrated Bond (but there is a lot of love for these lately), so it now seems that Octopussy, just in time for its 40th anniversary, is the “new” underrated Bond. I love the Cold War era seriousness of it mixed in with the “popcorn” fun of it all. I’m a big Brosnan guy, but if I had an underrated movie to rewatch, it just might be TWINE, which I struggle with at times.

    Great video David, thanks...
These films should be great upon that first initial viewing though, without years needing to pass. As overall films they are all pretty poor, despite all having some great scenes. I loved Die another Day upon release, but I was 13 at the time... Watching it recently though I did enjoy it, until after the fall of the ice palace.. and Jinx's "Yo momma" line..
Spectre- the step brother stuff is absolute balls. It's also just a pretty dull film BUT does have some great moments.
For me, Quantum is Craig's best and is the one I think of when I think of Craig's Bond. Casino is probably his best film but Quantum is one I can watch again and again. The editing doesn't bother me, I think it works well. The soundtrack is great. Craig IS badass. There are so many great moments in the film - brilliant action and the best quieter character moments in the series. Also some great comedy. I love the line where Bond says "I don't think he smoked" and M smashes the ashtray onto the floor. It has a unique and refreshing style, i love how experimental it is. It feels like a European Bond film really, not British-made, like the dull Skyfall and Spectre.
I rewatched license to kill recently. It's good but the Bond theme playing during the tanker scene undermines the whole thing

From the ones you watched here, I’d say that you’re pretty spot on about them being under appreciated. I must say though that for some reason I do quite like AVTAK, but Moore as a whole isn’t a good Bond for me. However, FYEO is my favourite of his and in my top 10 of all Bond movies, and is perhaps a little under appreciated.

I have ALWAYS LOVED and ADORED Diamonds Are Forever, A View to a Kill, and Licence to Kill...
"I mean, COME ON"...Tiffany Case, Wint and Kidd, the moon buggy chase, Blofeld, the oil rig assault, the ski chase in Russia, May Day's Eiffel Tower jump, the fire truck chase with Stacy, Bond Vs. Zorin atop the Golden Gate Bridge, Pam Bouvier, the tanker truck chase, Sanchez's fiery demise..."WOW!"
I have also ALWAYS LOVED and ADORED other Bonds that have gotten a bad rap over the years, like
The Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker... "What's not to LOVE?"... Scaramanga's fun house, the Bangkok car chase, Mary Goodnight, Nick Nack, Bond's free fall from the airplane without a parachute, Holly Goodhead, Hugo Drax, the cable car fight with Jaws, the outer space laser battle... "OH, YEAH!"
I have ALWAYS LOVED the unofficial entry Never Say Never Again, as well, which also gets trashed.
    "Let's see"...the Shrublands fight, the motorcycle chase, Q's pen & Fatima Blush's explosive end.."YES!"
IMO: The first 16 "Classic-Era" films, the ones made by Broccoli, Saltzman, Maibaum, Young, Hamilton, Hunt, Gilbert, and Glen, the ones starring Connery, Lazenby, Moore, and Dalton, the ones with the Ken Adam sets and the John Barry music... You know... the films made between 1962 -1989... have been... are... and always will be... the GREATEST 007 films of all...
As for the remaining Bond films... Well, more on that later...
When you spoke of "GOOD MEMORIES" being attached to these films... Here are some of mine...
Having grown up in the 1970's, I have very good memories of watching Goldfinger, Thunderball,
You Only Live Twice, Live and Let Die, and The Man with the Golden Gun on TV for the first time on the ABC Sunday Night Movie in the mid '70's... It was then that I first discovered Ian Fleming's character...
James Bond was my 1st favorite film hero, and Sean Connery & Roger Moore my 1st favorite actors...
(Followed in 1977... OF COURSE... by Luke Skywalker & Han Solo, and Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford!)
Buying my first 007 movie poster (Live and Let Die) at a convention soon after seeing the film on TV...
Later, seeing the infamous "butchered 2-parter" of On Her Majesty's Secret Service on TV in 1976... and thinking that, without Connery or Moore, I'd hate it... But ending up LOVING it... AND Lazenby...
Going to see The Spy Who Loved Me in the theatre at age 10 in 1977, and Moonraker in the theatre at age 12 in 1979... the first two James Bond films that I ever saw on the big screen....
Collecting the Moonraker Topps trading cards and listening to the Moonraker album by John Barry (my first Bond soundtrack) over and over again in 1979...
Boating with my family in 1979 on the St. Lucie River in South Florida (where we lived)... the VERY SAME river that just a few months before had doubled for the Amazon River in Moonraker... We even saw the wooden ramps that the filmmakers constructed (and left behind!) for the boat stunts...
Meeting the lovely Caroline Munro (Naomi - TSWLM) and director Irvin Kershner (NSNA) at a convention, and getting to see Rita Coolidge performing "All Time High" live, both around the same time as the Octopussy release... (Ah, yes... 1983... the "Battle of the Bonds" year!)...
Working at a movie theatre in 1985, one year after graduating High School, and having multiple... ("ahem")... shall we say,... "unofficial private midnight screenings"... of A View to a Kill with my friends!
Enjoying all of the media hype in 1986 when Dalton was announced as "the NEW James Bond"...
It was the first time that I got to experience "a changing of the guard"... and it was thrilling...
When the 007 production team was once again back in South Florida shooting Licence to Kill in 1988, and the media frenzy as it was covered nightly on the local TV stations...
    Yes... GOOD MEMORIES... But...
Unfortunately, however... I must admit that I do have a VERY BIG PROBLEM with the films made WITHOUT the original core group of veteran 1962-1989 "Classic-Era" filmmakers... Once they were gone, the subsequent films of the "Non-Classic-Era" became VASTLY inferior, and I either REALLY DON'T LIKE them (half of the Brosnan era) or absolutely out-and-out LOATHE them (the Craig era)...
IMO: The Brosnan films went from (mostly) tired, generic, "greatest hits" knock-offs to total garbage, and are easily disposable... And I don't know WHAT the Craig films are supposed to be, with their downbeat, overly-realistic, melodramatic "soap-opera" swill, and all the classic tropes stripped away... (Plus, I don't particularly care for Brosnan all that much, and I REALLY DISLIKE Craig)...
I've tried MANY TIMES to appreciate these films... with NO LUCK.
You were mentioning the "fun" that you were having while watching Diamonds are Forever... That's my big hang-up with modern Bond (in particular, the abysmal Craig era)... There is no sense of escapist, campy, tounge-in-cheek comic book "FUN" that DEFINED the 1962 - 1989 era any more... I miss that...
However... I am willing to try YET AGAIN to temper my criticisms of my unappreciated Bond films
(as you did with yours), and search my soul to see if I can FINALLY "soften" my negative opinion on ANY of them... There are quite a few that I have big problems with... but I think there is ONE that I can come to better terms with (And you won't see coming... It WILL surprise you).
So... Here is my ranking of the James Bond films...
First, the 19 films that I have always... "APPRECIATED"...(to use the word of the day)...
    #01 - GOLDFINGER.....................................................10/10
    #02 - THUNDERBALL.................................................10/10
    #03 - YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.....................................10/10
    #04 - MOONRAKER....................................................10/10
    #05 - THE SPY WHO LOVED ME................................10/10
    #06 - FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE...............................10/10
    #07 - DR. NO...............................................................10/10
    #08 - DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER...............................10/10
#09 - THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN................10/10
    #10 - LIVE AND LET DIE.............................................10/10
    #11 - OCTOPUSSY......................................................10/10
    #12 - A VIEW TO A KILL..............................................10/10
    #13 - ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE...........10/10
    #14 - LICENCE TO KILL................................................9/10
    #15 - THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.....................................9/10
    #16 - FOR YOUR EYES ONLY........................................9/10
    #17 - NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.................................9/10
    #18 - GOLDENEYE........................................................8/10
    #19 - THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH............................8/10
NOW... I'm ready to be GENEROUS...
In the spirit of this video's theme about re-evaluating unloved Bonds, my ranking continues...
Let's see... I said that I might be able to appreciate ONE more... Well... What's left....
TND... DAD... CR (2006)... QOS... SF... SP... and NTTD... I can't stand these BOMBS... (All stay at 0/10).
(These two Brosnan Bonds are tiresome bores... And all five Craig Bonds are abominations..."IMO")...
Bond tsunami surfing... Blofeld is Bond's stepbrother (?!?)... "Give me a BREAK!".
"BUT WAIT"... Hold on here".... So what's the film, then?
Haven't I just ranked ALL of the "REMAINING" Bond films?.
"Well... NO!!!"...Time to be GENEROUS... My pick is...
#20 - 1967's CASINO ROYALE with Peter Sellers...
    ( "S U R P R I S E !" )
This unofficial spoof IS quite a TRAIN WRECK... but it's a "FUN" train wreck!.. It DOES have a WACKY CHARM to it, and I can appreciate how it epitomizes the whole 1960's SPY-CRAZE phenomenon...
Orson Welles is good as Le Chiffre... and it DOES have Barbara Bouchet, Daliah Lavi, Joanna Pettet, and Ursula Andress... all four of whom I...("ahem")... "APPRECIATE"... If you know what I mean...
So, I'll give this very flawed film another chance...
Now, are the "Classic-Era" films PERFECT?... I would argue that the first five Sean Connery films are (DN, FRWL, GF, TB, & YOLT)... And as for the few "minor quibbles" that I may have with some of the other films ("I'm talking to you, double-taking pigeon"), NONE of them are SO significant that they affect my otherwise ABSOLUTE 100% enjoyment of the films.
I can't bring myself to forgive the "Non-Classic" films for their flaws, as I can with the "Classic" films...
I'm sure that has to do with the rose colored nostalgia glasses that I must see those films through...
Yeah, that must be it... Either that, or maybe it's just that these newer Bond movies really do just
    BITE THE BIG ONE... "Hmmm".
    Anyway, this experiment was productive...
As for the remaining films, however, I do think I've reached an impasse...
When one realizes that Sellers' Casino Royale is STILL better than Craig's Casino Royale...
I think it's time to stop!
Lastly, I'm so sorry that this post ended up being ALMOST as long as the CURRENT WAIT between NEW BOND FILM RELEASES... So if you made it this far... "Thank you for reading this"...
And thank you for taking the time to hear my opinions...
JAMES BOND WILL RETURN... But I'm out of here!
PS: Remember... If you see a mad professor in a mini bus, just smile.

Forsters style might be controversial but I actually really appreciated his artistic flair throughout and I even liked the title track this time.
Only problem for me is how quick the climax wraps up but other than that it feels down to earth, fleming, and Daniel is just badass

Craig: Spectre is criminally underrated. Yes, the car chase is the worst in the series, but it's killer otherwise. Quantum is also underrated.
    Dalton's duo are freaking fantastic.
Moore: For Your Eyes Only is top three for me. Edit to add - Octopussy is one of my faves, too.
Connery: Diamonds is trash, don't even try it. Thunderball is underrated, as it requires some patience to thoroughly enjoy.
OHMSS remains tragically underrated as well. It's just that Lazenby so bad, wretched, self-conscious, and preening. He's who Austin Powers is based on. It's amazing how every other element was so fantastic that people are willing to overlook him.

It’s ironic, for me at least, that while many consider A View to A Kill as not the best of the Bond movies; from a music standpoint it’s great.
An awesome score provided by John Barry; and the title track from Duran Duran, which was their first #1 hit before the group split up.
It’s got good music; and I think A View to A Kill is one of the best Bond songs.
