*Hey **#TechSquad**! What model of TV do you currently own? Let me know - brand, size, display type! Also, don't forget to check out the new t-shirts!* shop.spreadshirt.com/andru
Looks like I need a new TV. I have a Sony Bravia KDL 40 X BR 4. I think it is from 2005. Picture is going out sound works but no picture. I assume not worth trying to fix? This TV is in my small finished basement. In a corner so I think I cannot go more then 50 inch and even that might over power the area. Couch is about only 12 feet away from the TV. So with that said what would you recommend for me to purchase and be able to keep price no more than $1500.00 Thank You, Mark
I got my A1 for around three weeks now, all I could say is, I don't even want to look at other TVs anymore, all I want to do after work is go home and watch some freakin tv!!! That's how amazing this TV is.
Did you watch Underworld in 4 K? Did you notice banding or dark screen effect called DSE? Can you run DSE test from UA-cam and let me know what you see? I have OLED EG9600 65 inch and I hate it.
Gavin Tai thank you my friend..i feel you on your feelings for your a1e its a serious tv picture is great makes everything much smoother and clean pic ihave e6oled this tv is on a new level got mine yesterday watched some 4k movie trailors last night ,just amazing picture cant amagine what next year oleds gonna be like sony did a great job enjoy your a1e my friend im sure gonna enjoy mine ones again thanks and congrats (smiling)
Got my Sony OLED the week it came out and I can 100% say this is best OLED on market, really if they can probably work on Z9D thickness I'll probably get the new version if Sony releases one next year
No TV is bette than the Z9 imho. I’d rather sacrifice a fraction of the black level than having a tv that is very dim and susceptible to burn-ins. Plus, the Z9 has the most amount of dimming zones than any other TV in the market (648 or zones), so your blacks are not really too far from the OLED ones.
Great review. I choose the Z9D over the A1E due to size and brightness, but the A1E is still an outstanding TV. As you mentioned the Android TV OS is one of the major drawbacks to this and all Sony TV's. It would be really nice if they would switch their TV's over to their own PlayStation OS, with apps coming from the PlayStation Store. Definitly anyone looking to get this TV, make sure you have a PlayStation 4 Pro, or a 4K Amazon Fire TV if you want the absolute best expereince.
For HDR I think Z9D is still king and it just goes to show that despite having this OLED, Sony still considers last year's Z9D as their flagship TV and has no plans to replace it this year because nothing else on the market comes close to its peak brightness performance.
if you have not seen panasonic oled yet and if you were a professional calibrator you should know that panasonic high end OLED TV is the best and deserves a review
+nick love007 have you checked my channel history? I work closely with Panasonic. They aren’t expanding their OLED line here in the US and therefore have nothing for me to review on that front.
Thanks Andru. Have been researching the Sony tv-both 900f and OLED models. In speaking with bb folks, they repeat the exact words written in the descriptions (which I don't understand). You explained in a way I could understand and appreciate. After viewing your video, I am now focused on the Sony A1E. Again, thanks. I accidentally left this review under my son's account. I subscribed and look forward to more informative reviews.
I'm new to your channel but I really like the way you review things, especially TV's. I look forward to seeing more reviews by you. I recently got the Sony 55X900E and man this thing is blowing me away. I was going to go with LG OLED but this was too good a deal at the time and I really trust Sony TV's. Best processing in the business and reliable.
Var White my 2 year old daugther went to town on my x850d with a nail cutter and tore a hole in the screen... so sadly had yo throw it out and now got a 930d... A1 e isnt available here yet
dknight, sorry to hear about the murder of your x850d. I hope the 930d is working out well for you. I'm looking forward to my next upgrade (to OLED), but probably a year or two away.
TV Tech sharp TV is awesome.. Even their cheapest tv for not-so-rich people are more sharper and natural in picture quality than LG,Haier, n Samsung. Only Sony, Toshiba n Panasonic can do it.
I bought this TV a couple of days ago mind 🤯 blowing performance If you have the cash or finance, and are considering taking the plunge. Just do it. A simply stunning TV.

Hey bro, great review. I am in to Sony brand, now using mid range Sony KDL-42W828, and very satisfied, but dreaming abouth Z9D or A1E, cant even imagine how picture can be good, and how good are on those two...

Andru, can you make a huge favor if you still have this tv and a LG oled? Use some gradient files to measure which does better with color shifting, that shows the smoothest transition of gradient.
The first OLED screen device that I used from Sony is the X series walkman, It has a 3 inch OLED touch screen and this was a time when a mp3 player was still relevant. I still use it till this day.
Hi Andru! Today's my birthday and I really want to get something I don't need, such as this TV. I own one of the last top-of-the-line plasmas made by Panasonic. It still makes my friend jealous whenever they come and see it. Now, your review was very thorough and I thank you. I have a question: Does this TV exhibit the same problem that some owners of the LG OLEDs have complained about, namely the image retention problem on the screen? Has this happened to your Sony? I hope you are able to answer my question. And yes, I have subscribed to your channel. Thank you and merry Christmas!
You mentioned you can watch the TV from any angle without any kind of distortion, that is not true, at an angle you get a green/blue tint. Also the slowness of the Android OS isn't Google's fault, Sony cheaped out on the Mediatek chipset horsepower and memory, this can't be addressed with a firmware update on Google's part.
Hmmm... To answer your question... I own a 1080 p Sony KDS-A2000. The optic block is broken according to Sony. The tv still works, but it has a noticeable greenish-yellowish hue so all colors show up differently than what is on my laptop. I connect my laptop to my tv in order to watch UA-cam and the different movie streaming services - Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. Soooo... I am in the market for a new tv. And although I am disappointed that I have to buy a new tv, I do understand that we live in a different world. I remember when they used to say no tv can match the black levels of a cathode ray tube. lol... Not only that... TVs seemed to last generations. My Sony tv lasted maybe just shy of 10 years.(2006 - 2016). It probably started to go in 2014 or 2015, but I did not really notice it. A part of me is being cheap because as long as the tv still turns on, it is hard to justify buying a new tv. lol...Buuuuuut it is time to cut my losses and pony up for a new tv. lol... Soooo... that is the background.... Soooo... Because I want to stay with the devil that I know... Sony... I am hoping for a tv to last 10 years. Note: I have a bunch of Sony products. I own the Sony A7RII video camera and I shot a video with it in 4k and i was really unhappy with the digital 4k and the motion was horrible... Alright... Thanks for your help... the decision is made... i will likely go with the Sony A1e over the Sony Z9d. The logic is simply that it should be better than my current tv. I wanted the Z9d initially because my living room is really bright. But every time I think about the Z9d and backlight technology, I just keep thinking that I am setting myself up for disappointment. I like the layout and format of the Z9d more than the A1e, but that motion blur... If it is anything like the A7RII will have me sad... So I will end with... I love my Sony A7RII for still photography, but I know longer use it for video projects. Thanks for sharing your experience. Peace...
I owned a ZD9 (three to be accurate). Two had significant vertical banding on bright plain images & the one that didn't went wrong after two weeks. The picture was amazing but the banding killed it for me as I watch lots of sports. I am going to try the A1E as I am hoping the OLED panel is less susceptible to banding on light colours. Great review.
good review. however sony has just come out with the Z9f..... . have you seen this. can you review ? im chomping at the bit to buy a new 77 or 75 ' SONY AND I HAVE NO INFO ON THE z9f
I watched this video twice and I couldn’t really pick out where you actually gave a ruling about the Z9D vs the A1E (other than saying the Z9D was brighter). So, between the two, as a 4K HDR focused gamer that loves movies and is looking for a 65” screen and use a home theater system, which is it?
Someone on Offer Up in the Los Angeles area is selling the XEL-1 NEW in the box for $2,500. I remember seeing those things at Best Buy like 10 years ago.
Have A1E... love it. Only negative is fitting the 65" in small area where we walk past the side. (How to avoid bumping it.) I use TV sound most of the time, but it is connected to 7.1 audio.
Is this a lot better than the Sony z9b !?! In the uk the 65” a1 Costs £4500, the 65” z9 Costs £3300, and coming up to Christmas that will drop to £3000, so, which is best? The a1 Costs so much more!?!
Currently, TV manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, Philips , toshiba buy panels from LG Samsung did not want to develop OLED technology with LG and now they have come up with a fast QLED. Qled is the best out of LCD technology but to OLED its far.
I would of went with the A1E if I could of afford it. But I have the Samsung MU9000 and i have no complaints. I got it for a good deal . And love the built in wifi and picture quality looks great. Thanks for this review great vid.👍👍..
Thanks to you for your excellent reviews caught between the Sony oled and Sony z have any insightful comments or guidance and dose buying a 65 vs a 75 make a diffence affect the decision
Add me to the Z9D over A1E crowd. Both are amazing, the A1E does off angle better, the Z9D has a more natural picture. I have the XBR75Z9D, the closest A1E was $17K, no thanks, and I prefer the Z9D picture, and it does HDR better than anything.
I owned the 55A1 and returned it. My reasons: - Colors are feeble because of the low color brightness - HDR looks flat because of low nits and the fact that it is a WRGB OLED, so in HDR only the whites reach 700Nits, which is still bad - because of the design type of the A1, the display is bent convex ( not concave like on curved TVs ), which is worse on the 65inch model than on the 55inch, but still noticeable
For the absolute best, the Z9D will beat both. In a theater room with little issue surronding viewing angle, you will get nearly perfect blacks, and by far the best brightness of any TV. Add in the Sony's video decoder, and you will have the smoothest, and best looking display possible right now.
You shouldn't use a soundbar for high end sound. A soundbar can never replicate true 5.1/7.1/9.1 speakers. Especially Atmos. Also for 4k content, only 4k blu ray is the way to go. 4k Netflix or Amazon provides you with a bitstarved low quality image.
Samsung smart TV, led however it unfortunately was the last year of the old Samsung smart TV platform using tizen apps I think, and at this point I seriously debating flipping to apple TV as some apps have stopped working or are 50/50 if they will work.
I have a 65" 4K 65XBR850C TV and I live that tv, I really do. I like the oled tv, but I also like the QLED and it's really a nice TV too. I feel I'm going QLED because I can get a 75" curve for about $1100 bucks cheaper than a 65" oled. I kinda want to go up in size so the Samsung QLED curve is winning for me right now. Plus it is about preference anyway.
Great video thank you.👍Just wish sony would drop the price of the 65 a1. Very tempted to go for the 65 b7 for £2999 but i really like the image processing on the a1.the x1 extreme is a beast.
Good friend, I greet you from Costa Rica, I wish that I like to clarify some doubts, I see that you have used OLED and LED TV, that you see the DOLBY VISION praise although I do not understand much because I do not speak English but I think you say that it is better, for What I have two 3D models to acquire, the LG OLED E6P and the SONY Z9D, I want it in 3D because I have many movies in this format. According to your experience is the OLED better than LED in brightness, image, movies?, In which model will you see better movies on DVD and Blu-Ray 3D and blue rays that I will not change in UHD? , Blu-ray players 4k UHD do a better leveling to see blue rays 1080p?, And what is the truth that the differences do not have between HDR10 and Dolby Vision?, Which TV model would you advise me to buy?, Thank you very much For your help and advice, and again your videos are very illustrative for me, thank you. Luis Astorga
Andru Edwards Arrrgh! I plan to pick this tv up this weekend in 55" and have been searching high and low for a stand. Finally found one I like, but it's 15 3/4" deep. 🙄
I want to buy this tv but it’s late in the year it’s a lot of money to spend on a tv so I’m going to wait for ces 2018 hoping for a affordable 8k tv or something new
Hey thanks for this---I just set up my 55 in the bed room..It appears to lean back onto the stand. Is that normal? I did buy some tie down straps and the required M6 machine bolts to secure it from falling forward in a tremor. But I wondered if yours does tilt back, and if not do you know what I need to do to remedy it? Thanks BzBoy
I bought the lg b6v, and i loved it. But one of the reasons i bought a new tv was that after i moved into a new house where the living room was alot brighter. Iam talking 50% windows, seeing any dark or slightly dark material became impossible, let alone game of thrones witch became More like an audiobook. To my biggest disappointment, the b6v was almost just as bad, maybe even worse than my old w828 in some regards. Being that the tv is being used by everyone in the hose all day i knew we had a problem. My girl wasn't very impressed i used that money and the one thing she cares about didn't improve, so i had to bring the tv back. But, in normal and especially dark it's the best PQ i have ever experienced. That said, i tradet it for the xe900, and that is a very good tv, it is alot better a day, and for a fald lcd, it is very good at night. I would overall, based on my needs, say the xe900 i a better buy. Is has some of the best PQ of any led, and has both excellent brightness and blacks, a good alternative if anyone isn't happy about oled. The price is reasonable to.
The only this about this TV is the way its angled backward.... I actually install TV's for a living for bestbuy and I think 99% of the times I've done this TV they already had a soundbar or surround sound in place. Seems like kind of a silly choice if your already committed the another source of audio. Surely, there is a less expensive model that uses the same panel and such but with regular TV speaker, which your not going to use anyway?
lol I have an Haier basic tv, so the only way to get something as amazing as this would be by winning the lottery, winning it in a giveaway or marrying a girl with it lol. Great review, I bet most of the people who complain about the flaws are those who won't be able to get one by his/her hard work.
May be pointless now as Z9Ds are hard to find anymore, but the Z9D is pretty much the best all around TV. Basically OLED blacks, but 3x as bright for HDR, and 2.5 for SDR, although that dosen’t matter as much for SDR, unless you need to overcome glare. Oh yeah, you won’t have to babysit your TV watching for temporary or permanent image retention. I think Sony made a huge mistake with the Z9F and it’s X-Wide Viewing Angle, or whatever they call it. It’s basically a hybrid of a VA and IPS panel, and has a horrible contrast ratio to its slightly better viewing angles. Not worth the sacrifice of picture quality. The Z9F’s Local Dimming is also way below par compared to the Z9D’s. I know there is some interesting models on the horizon before we get to MicroLED, but I can’t wait for affordable MicroLED. I’ll keep my Z9D until that time comes.
For some reason I can't play video games on this. Makes me motion sickness. I can only play movies on this. I just wish they'll update and give us the Dolby Vision update. They need to get rid of the android interface because it's so slow.
Currently, TV manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, Philips buy panels from LG Samsung did not want to develop OLED technology with LG and now they have come up with a fast QLED. Qled is the best out of LCD technology but to OLED its far.
You made a mistake when commeting on Android TV. You said the slow performance was not Sony's fault, but in fact, it absolutely is. Sony has been, for reasons unknown to their fans (including myself), packing in a very slow MediaTek CPU into these TVs, resulting in them simply not keeping up with Android TV. That is NOT the fault of Google, and you can see that easily if you use something like the nVidia Shield TV, where the performance is outright outstanding. It's clear Sony chose this chip strictly as a cost cutting measure, which is absolutely absurd for these high price TVs.
Again, that is consistently because of the MediaTek processors found in those TVs. Phones running the same chip also suffer greatly from performance issues, despite most Android phones having no issues otherwise.
I like how at the end he says to leave a comment if you dont care about TV tech... I would not have set through almost 10 mins of this video if I wasnt into it haha
Currently, TV manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, Philips buy panels from LG Samsung did not want to develop OLED technology with LG and now they have come up with a fast QLED. Qled is the best out of LCD technology but to OLED its far.

Your thoughts
Delores McEachern try the 900e newer and I love mine

Delores McEachern go with the x900e a much better tv

What would you say is the best 75 inch tv on the market right now? Preferably under $4k
A lot of the 75” TVs get expensive. Right now TCL just launched a new 75-inch 6 Series for $1800 - that’s definitely the best value for the money!

Is this a lot better than the Sony z9b !?! In the uk the 65” a1 Costs £4500, the 65” z9 Costs £3300, and coming up to Christmas that will drop to £3000, so, which is best? The a1 Costs so much more!?!
Nice Review Andru new to all these so I'm here to check out more about the Oled Thanks for sharing Deb ✌️👍
Does the A1E have the 'burn in' problem?
I am still up in the air on should I get the LG OLED 4k with Dolby Vision or the Sony. Who truly has the best picture quality LG or Sony?
Currently, TV manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, Philips , toshiba buy panels from LG
Samsung did not want to develop OLED technology with LG and now they have come up with a fast QLED. Qled is the best out of LCD technology but to OLED its far.
I would of went with the A1E if I could of afford it. But I have the Samsung MU9000 and i have no complaints. I got it for a good deal . And love the built in wifi and picture quality looks great. Thanks for this review great vid.👍👍..
do these have any issue about permanent burn?
Does the 65 inch Sony OLED have a different picture compared to the 55 inch Sony OLED?
I absolutely love my Sony A1E. Gave up my long loved Pioneer elite signature plasma for it
Did your Kuro die or did you just want a change? Im considering the switch as well...undecided between the Z9 and AE1 though.
A1E
Thanks to you for your excellent reviews caught between the Sony oled and Sony z have any insightful comments or guidance and dose buying a 65 vs a 75 make a diffence affect the decision
Honestly? I'd personally go with the Z9D myself! Less expensive, and brighter picture!
i have Sony KD-55X9005 its great tv.but im thinking to buy OLED XBR-65A1E
Add me to the Z9D over A1E crowd. Both are amazing, the A1E does off angle better, the Z9D has a more natural picture. I have the XBR75Z9D, the closest A1E was $17K, no thanks, and I prefer the Z9D picture, and it does HDR better than anything.
+rmyAddison all excellent points, and I agree!
Enjoy your reviews, keep up the good work....
Same here, for same reasons!
Same here, for same reasons!
I have the a1e and I have image retention on it in less than a year oled has burn in issues that need to be resolved.
I owned the 55A1 and returned it.
My reasons:
- Colors are feeble because of the low color brightness
- HDR looks flat because of low nits and the fact that it is a WRGB OLED, so in HDR only the whites reach 700Nits, which is still bad
- because of the design type of the A1, the display is bent convex ( not concave like on curved TVs ), which is worse on the 65inch model than on the 55inch, but still noticeable
Lukas M people are refering the the z9d more.
What tv would you get the C7 or A1E? It's hard me to pick for my theater room.
none. both are so bad on Gray Uniformity and DSE - dirty screen effect, just horrible.
Wait for the 2018 OLEDs. The 2017 OLEDs are still not worth the price with minor improvements to the 2016 OLEDs.
M Woody Input lag, image retention are awful on the Sony. LG B7/C7 is a much better choice.
MansteinLoL 35% Performance increase on the LG B7 over the LG B6 is significant.
For the absolute best, the Z9D will beat both. In a theater room with little issue surronding viewing angle, you will get nearly perfect blacks, and by far the best brightness of any TV. Add in the Sony's video decoder, and you will have the smoothest, and best looking display possible right now.
Question. how does it look with a sound bar in front? does it cut a lot of the picture out?
The Xel 11" is a Gamechanger boys
Thanks for the input do you have any thought on 2018 models oled and z and what changes you might see
I have A165 inch. It's great and I recommend it. Also, I had a line of non functional pixel line. SONY was great and obviously replaced it for free
Can I ask what is the average life of the display bcoz it's OLED???
Good review, I just feel that Sony prices up their products too much, LG and Samsung has closed the gap in terms of performance.
Hey i was considering lg oled but hear about your views on this sony i confusing SO for lg or sony Can you tell me HDR 10 and HDR 1000
Does it play in standard 50/60 hz? I hate that stupid soap opera effect from motion smoothing?
Samsung smart TV, led however it unfortunately was the last year of the old Samsung smart TV platform using tizen apps I think, and at this point I seriously debating flipping to apple TV as some apps have stopped working or are 50/50 if they will work.
Oh man that sucks! But yeah a set top box like an Apple TV or Roku will add some life to that.
I have a Roku but I want to go bigger
Awesome! ❤
Not live but love
I'm in between the 55" A1 OLED (XBR-55A1E) and the XBR55X930E. Anyone have any recommendations?
Great review man!
Much appreciated! Glad you liked it!
Which 4K TV has best/most improved Motion Flow system?
Thanks for this review! I think I have make my mind now, I will definitely go for this one...... Awesome video man! Go Sony, go! ✌✌✌
If you want 3D, then you'll want one of the 2016 LG OLEDs! The newer ones don't do 3D anymore.
I want to buy this but it’s late in the year so I’m going to wait for ces 2018 hoping for a affordable 8k tv or something new
Andru Edwards how deep of a tv stand do you need for this tv to sit on safely with the kickstand?
+GalaxyNexus1 I’d say no less than 18 inches
Yep, it does have a slight tilt back onto the kickstand - it’s normal though!
How many Lumans are in a bravia?
what tv is better a1e or c7
hey @andru edwards , will mount wall reduce sound quality ?
+Epicjack nope, not at all
Thanks sir , i did not expect you to reply back . You got my sub today .
+Epicjack I appreciate that!
For what is labeled as a comparison video, not a lot of time spent comparing. The review was good though.
Adam Cummuta I didn't even catch him say one was better than the other
I bought the LG 65C7 for $2700 and I'm happy!
+Brent Arnold fantastic TV and good deal too!
Great review. Thanks
Lol, the brightness level is a nit pick, because you're picking on those nits! 😁
I see what you did there fam! LOL
Andru Edwards hey dude whats your fav tv
The only this about this TV is the way its angled backward.... I actually install TV's for a living for bestbuy and I think 99% of the times I've done this TV they already had a soundbar or surround sound in place. Seems like kind of a silly choice if your already committed the another source of audio. Surely, there is a less expensive model that uses the same panel and such but with regular TV speaker, which your not going to use anyway?
great review! Thank you!
lol I have an Haier basic tv, so the only way to get something as amazing as this would be by winning the lottery, winning it in a giveaway or marrying a girl with it lol.
Great review, I bet most of the people who complain about the flaws are those who won't be able to get one by his/her hard work.
Monster TV. Still use it
May be pointless now as Z9Ds are hard to find anymore, but the Z9D is pretty much the best all around TV.
I can’t blame you for that! The Z9D was incredible!
dang that's big I been looking for a Sony TV for my gaming videos
For some reason I can't play video games on this. Makes me motion sickness. I can only play movies on this. I just wish they'll update and give us the Dolby Vision update. They need to get rid of the android interface because it's so slow.
I just bought mine today got it for $2,400 open box 55"
Myself I have Sony Xe900 but I think Panasonic is the dad for TV makers.!! Brilliant Quality ....
Currently, TV manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, Philips buy panels from LG
Samsung did not want to develop OLED technology with LG and now they have come up with a fast QLED. Qled is the best out of LCD technology but to OLED its far.
awesome video and awesome TV!!!!
Panasonic new oled best tv ive ever seen as lg to headache inducing bright . I would like to hear this screen speaker though !
Awesome, so Sony will cover burn in and image retention right??? Oops, nope, then no thanks
I'm all about the 77"
like this sony bravia to but my favorite is the LG w7
+Andru Edwards Can you point me on the video that start at 5:46 please
You made a mistake when commeting on Android TV. You said the slow performance was not Sony's fault, but in fact, it absolutely is. Sony has been, for reasons unknown to their fans (including myself), packing in a very slow MediaTek CPU into these TVs, resulting in them simply not keeping up with Android TV. That is NOT the fault of Google, and you can see that easily if you use something like the nVidia Shield TV, where the performance is outright outstanding. It's clear Sony chose this chip strictly as a cost cutting measure, which is absolutely absurd for these high price TVs.
+Matt Merkle outside of set top boxes, I’ve found Android TV to be consistently slow when used as a TVs main smart TV platform
Lmaoooo very good point 😂
what tv is better c7 or a1e?

and here i am still on a sony x9300d
Unless you really need a TV, I would ditch it and get a Projector instead, nothing like watching on a 150 inch screen.
Thank you Andru.........Bernd from Berlin....
Great video.
+Laundry Willis thank you!
I have the 65inch LG G7
