  • New York City: The Big Crapple. It is a terrible place. If you live there, this is no surprise. Here are ONLY 10 of the reasons why you should never move to New York.
Seems like a glamorous life. Or seemed like a glamorous life a long time ago. Back in the days when everything was black and white, New York City was the place to be not only in the US, but the entire world! Now, it’s a has-been place that’s struggling to remain relevant.
Of course, the city of New York isn’t just downtown. It encompasses all five boroughs - Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. All share in the misery that is living in New York City proper.
There are many reasons you shouldn’t move to New York, and many reasons why New York City sucks. If you live there, you’re aware of most of these already. But you’re probably in denial as to the extent of the problem, or you’re just too stubborn to leave.

@@gordanazakula4927 They can co exist. The problem is the cost of living just doesn't allow it. The local population is pushed to their economic and financial limits while the hipsters and millennials move in. Before long, you start seeing those dreaded Starbucks, Chipotles, Applebees etc. Duncan Donuts and 7 Elevens replace the good ole neighborhood coffee shops where you could get a decent cup of coffee for a buck. Its a catch 22. Gentrification doesn't allow the 2 to co exist. New York City millennial gentrification means out with the old and in with the new, buildings and all.

Lived in NYC 10 years ago and really enjoyed it then. Visited for a month this summer with my kid who was on a pre-college program. My kid absolutely loved it - the food, energy, the vibe downtown where we had an apartment. I on the other hand was shocked at how grimy & dirty the city now seemed, how many vagrants seemed to be everywhere and how expensive basic stuff was - Eating out, Ubers, our apartment- compared to our home in Europe. Also there seemed to be the smell of weed everywhere we walked. I'm not sure i would opt to live there again 🤔

I lived in NY for 46 years and I love it no matter what. You can find almost anything under the sun there and I love the bluntness of the people. They're not saying, " bless your heart," while stabbing you in the back. Also, under that gruff exterior, beats a heart of gold. NY and NYers are very resilient and will bounce back from everything thrown at them---9/11, recession, the pandemic, inflation, whatever. I will always love NY and there's nothing you or anyone can say that will change that. I hope to be back soon.

That being said, I love living here, there's such a cool energy to LA, tons of things to do, a diverse mix of people, lots of sports, beaches, mountains not to far away.. but yeah you have to be prepared to pay more and deal with some hassle. And at a point in many peoples lives they just wanna settle down and live quietly, which is perfectly OK.

I have been living in NYC. for the past six years and I would say it’s a rather nice place to live. Depending on what neighborhood you live, you could have a relatively good life. There is plenty of things to go, such as nice bars, restaurants, parks, museums and beaches nearby during the summer. I don’t have a car, even though my job requires me to travel almost everyday to different locations, and I manage it very well. The subway network is fantastic, and it’s gets you to your destination very fast. After the pandemic the city has been getting very expansive, and it’s a shame. You need to work a lot to pay your bills.

Heck, you know a neighborbood is NOT gentrified when its almost completely devoid of Banks and Branch ATMS everywhere. Very true. But that magic you speak about is greatly diminished. Its not what it used to be. I'm a lifetime New Yorker from Brooklyn. New York City still has an amazing 4am nightlife with the best dining in the country due to it's sheer size and variety. But New York has lost so much of its edge and magic due to the Bloomberg and De Blasio Dynasties. So many cool sub cultures that once existed in New York has been all but wiped out. And I'm not talking about decadence. New York is choking in corporate chains with Duncan Donuts, 7 Elevens, Starbucks, Chipotles, Subways, Walgreen/CVC and a 1000 other brands. Manhattan lost so much during the past 2 decades. And the hyper gentrification has made the vast majority of NYC unaffordable to a huge amount of people. Even millennials are beginning to leave. Yes NYC will forever remain an amazing iconic city but only for those with deep pockets.

Then I traveled the world and found WONDERFUL cities, like Taipei, Boise, Bangalore, Algiers, Reno, Tallinn, Granada (Nicaragua), Accra, and Sapporo. What do those cities have that NYC doesn't? One word: *livability!* NYC is only livable if you make more money than Jeff Bezos.
In a few years my online business should be good enough for me to move to Shimla in Northern India. I'll take views of the Himalayas over views of trash piling up any day, and the idea of paying $200 a month for rent is very appealing. I never understood the appeal of living in the city. Unless you have the money to live in a really nice building with perhaps a balcony and a nice lobby and garden where you can hang out. Otherwise, I always saw cities as places to go to work, go out to eat, or go on a trip. Why spend so much money and sacrifice so much? For the same price or sometimes half, you can live in a house in the suburbs where it's quiet and you have a backyard and all the convenience stores you possibly need. Then, when you feel like going out to the city, you can just hop on a bus or a train.
But by far the biggest reason I'd never live in any city is crime, especially New York City. I don't want to feel unsafe walking in the street at night.

Businesses absolutely can not recover from the damage of the pandemic and the disastrous policies de Blasio and Cuomo put in place. Not only that, forcing people to believe and buy into things they don’t support essentially takes away their freedoms, continuously seeing their hard earned money go elsewhere. This was by far the most honest and accurate description of new York this man is 100% correct. All that glitters isn't gold

I moved here from Florida 7 years ago and now want to go back, what I earn in NYC I can earn back home and with less taxes and stress. And not many companies pay NYC living wages.

Don't blame you. And don't pay attention to people there. New Yorkers are stuck in their own little world. Better to live comfortably with more space and money left over

You can't live well in NYC no matter how much money you make. Just imagine buying a house over half million dollars with no space and it's a burned place covered with cheap materials. A car with high notes. I can go on and on. I live here for a long time now and don't believe its nice cause its going backwards.

For me the biggest problem with New York City is the rats and bedbugs. I could somehow live with all the other issues but the thought that there could be rats in your apartment or building is just not something I can handle.

There are rats in your building. There is no if.

I had a great time living there in late 90s and early to mid 2000s. Would never live there now

I AM SO GLAD THIS VIDEO WAS MADE! I literally just spent the last 20 minutes explaining this to people and as a born and raised native NYC’er for over 20 years, Idc what anyone tells me. This city will whisper sweet nothings in your ear when you get here, chew your dreams up when you get settled and spit them out before you leave. Nobody stays here. This city is to set up for you to make money and eventually leave. Its about the last place in America you want to actually attempt to raise a family. After a few weeks of city traffic, random weather and massive subway delays you’ll find it hard to raise anything but your middle finger and say “This place is fucking terrible”

If you come here with money, come with the intention of making money and nothing else, then leave when you're done. You'll make a lot of money. But for everything this is a rough city. The longer you stay the more jaded you'll become.

I mean my friend grew up in Queens and I would have as well had i not moved to Ireland when I was 7 the why we moved was my grandmother was really getting up there in age she was about 80 at the time and my mother wanted to come home and spend the final years she had left with her hence to say looking at how everything played out even if we had stayed we would have had to move home 2 years later anyway cause of when the economy had the massive recession except we wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as much for our house and would have been stuck in a real shithole in Ireland so the truth is we got out at a good time I know it wasn't exactly prime NYC but it was alot better then it was today 15 years is a hell of a difference

Agree 100%. Would have emphasized more that the transportation system is severely outdated. It’s 2020 and we’re using a transportation system that was built in 1904.

The signal system of the NYC Subway is a national embarrassment compared to somewhere like Toyko or Paris. The outdated technology is crippling the capacity of the system when autonomous trains or communications based train control should be system-wide.

Apaclypse, that’s because the train system works perfectly fine and if you haven’t noticed it’s constantly being upgraded

They have made aot of changes in the Subway System. You can believe there were no changes since 1904,lol.
