- A video taken by a witness and sent to CityNews captures vehicle driving in the wrong direction on Highway 401 near Whitby, moments before a crash and the aftermath.
Somewhere today, there is a son or daughter that lost both their child and their parents over the willful act of a careless, selfish fool. RIP to the deceased and condolences to those who suffer.
the son or daughter that lost their kids and parents also died today as well. might still be alive but I guarantee he/she also died on the inside today as well.
Our policies on crime also. Low cash bail again. Repeat violent offender. Canadians need to wake up, stop dealing with ideology, and put reality back on the docket. My son was traveling on the 401 about a month ago and witnessed a vehicle going the wrong way on the opposite side of the highway, he pulled over and called the police and luckily they stopped them before another tragic accident. Sheer craziness.

According to CTV news, a robbery suspect was fleeing police. This occurred around 7:50 local time near Whitby Ontario. Another report goes on to say 4 fatalities including 1 infant.
My heart goes out to the families who’ve lost loved ones. Just wondering if an emergency alert was put out, I’m just wondering? I realize this all must have escalated very fast.

Lies it was a theft that was escalated, when the suspect pulled a knife on the off duty cop trying to stop him.They should of never chased him in a highly deadly situation. Trucker family should sue

It certainly would have been against policy, but we have so many cowboys and untrained children earning six figures as cops, policy is less powerful than culture and stupidity.
You are right, but really, the one who caused these senseless deaths was the driver of the U-haul. He took the decision to drive on the wrong side of 401. Instead of chastising the police, let's look at this from who is to blame, the thieves and people who decide to break the law.

This entire situation is on his choices alone. We should be championing the police to do even more to catch criminals especially with Canada in the state that it is. Too many people with multiple felonies are on the streets, there's too many robberies, too many random violent attacks, too many criminals who are caught and released.
Blaming the police for this is like blaming Jason Worley for his wife murdering their two children because, "He shouldn't have tried to divorce her because it put the kids in danger."

When there is a cop Chase happening in highway, why the traffic was not stopped in first place ? This fatal accident could have been very well avoided if the road was closed immediately by the authorities. We Indians do not face such problems but have different problems to deal with. But this one terrified me, looks scary terrible and way more dangerous than the problems that we have here in India.
they cannot close down a HI WAY that busy and big , they cannot do that AT THE SAME TIME as chasing, only call; ahead and ask for others to block off on ramps, but again, at these kinds of speeds, just not feasible.. YES this was just another case of overreach of unqualified authority

I feel sorry for the families that lost loved one.
But I have to question the lack of critical thinking by the cops. They should have known better and probably are responsible for this accident. If they hadn't pursued the vehicle he probably would have exited as soon as he could. But because he threatened one of their members the thought was they had to get him. Consideration for the general public was forgotten. That thin blue line has to be honoured.

yea I saw the guys was driving the other side of the road yesterday on LakeShore. the driver was not even hesitating he was in the wrong lane. LOL

The off duty officer needs to be charged period. Why stand there and watch the suspect walk right out the door and then call the police? He should have made a citizens arrest, if we can then so can he and he even has more experience than us with criminals. Obviously video taken with a smart phone. Question is why did someone simply start videotaping starting before the car even came into view?
Maybe they noticed it with their eyes from a distance and recorded after?
@@KiddeeKush The second clip which was after the accident had happened then sure but the first clip of the vehicle passing them on the opposite side of the divider wouldn't have given them much notice plus it started behind them which is not where you would normally be looking. Even if you configure your smart button to start the camera, it takes time to pull out your phone and start video taping. Even dash cams don't always start in time which is why there are models that tape all the time and just have AI trimming away the unnecessary video as space is needed.
Now, if the car they taped going in the wrong direction was one of several first responder vehicles passing them on the way to an accident that had already occurred then I could see someone starting to videotape, after a few had passed them but not if the videotape was of the actual miscreant.

I find newish immigrants cut me off in traffic, drive in the merge lane for people wanting to get onto the roadway, don't signal till just before they turn, are using their phones when the turn signal flashes so leave huge gaps between cars turning and speed up if they see someone wanting turn to cross in front of them as well as hang back when a light turns green giving the impression someone could turn in front of them. Can someone say run on sentence? They are looking for car insurance money to claim horrific injuries insurance claims. Driving on the wrong side of the road is just showing how they don't care for anyone but themselves for the mass majority of them. Of course there are some good ones. Here in Quebec I've seen my fair share of reckless drivers and not going after these people is a huge mistake. They are going to drive reckless whether they are being chased or not. It's unfortunate that the rest of us on the road have to deal with people like this on the road who have little consideration for anyone but themselves.

Very odd is the video from the girl from whitby apparently where its obviously blurry as i guess that makes sense for a dash cam to be blurry. 8pm incident happened on a Monday yet i guess thsr monday minimal cars on the road in that area. Yea no, drove by that area on a sunday at 9pm and there was way more traffic. The names are made up aswell. No one in india would have to confirm the grandparents names. The ajax parents would easily name their parents. These parents didnt exist until a day or two later somehow, odd aint it? Grandparents and baby in car changes to 5 people in a car but not until days later. These stories will be ongoing .

This is on the criminals 100% unless they can prove that if the officers called off the chase things would have ended differently. Given that the criminals robbed the store, threatened multiple people with a knife and drove erratically instead of pulling over this is on them. Very tragic story all around.

The person going into oncoming traffic was fleeing from police. Don't think they did this because they thought they have power and control of themself, just that they were trying to get away from police after getting caught committing a crime.
