Not only India. Netaji came to Malaysia & Singapore to get support from Indians over there. In fact the biggest supporters of INA was from Indians in those 2 countries + Burma. Ironically, Tamils. They were the nationalists. Undividing loyalty to Netaji. Many died during the war. So Indian independence was achieved by INA, partly contributed by Malaysian & Singaporean Indians.

INA trials of 1945 led to many mutinies in India and mass resignations by civil servants which made the British realise that it was no longer possible to continue to rule India + USSR had declared support to colonies in their freedom struggle against colonial powers + US pressured UK & France to decolonise or else USSR will soon have influence in all colonies (note: Socialism was already appealing to poor colonies). Hence from 1945 to 1960- 15 countries got Independence, 1 of then was India. Multiple factors lead to India's independence and all must be taught in the school. Gandhi did play a critical role in increasing the national consciousness, but by saying that Gandhi's non-violence alone got us independence, we are killing the fighting spirit of this nation. Even Quit India movement saw violence by masses, Gandhi did not stop them. He understood that this was the last effort.

Dear fellow countrymen, As a child I grew up loving Subhash Chandra Bose as I went to schools in India and he was a part our history books written by Indians. However, after living in a western democracy for many years and having read the history books in the west, I am not impressed by this man. All it takes for anyone is to read about him in the lexicons available everywhere - even in Wikipedia you would get to learn that he never lead from the front, never ever won any battle, was given a command of the defeated deserters POWs of the British Indian Army that was defeated again by their original masters and sent to “kaala paani” . All his life he kept running and escaping cops so much so that he even died shrouded in a mystery if he ever died or even lived. He neither met Hitler, nor Mussolini or Emperor Hirohito or ever got recognition from them. He probably worked for their third tier military officers who recruited spies or deserters from enemy’s army. Do you think we should waste time on such people by glorifying them ?
