Everybody feels like their ult groups are one of a kind, but AKMU is truly so one of a kind in kpop, being the only brother sister duo. And their brother-sister dynamic is an endless source of humor too. They crack me up.

It always makes me smile when she hits him. While he wrote the song he told her she doesn´t have to sing this to often because of the many difficult high notes. Well it turned out to be one of their most successful songs hence she had to perform quite often, that is why she hits him playfully.
Yes, he plays the guitar and writes all their music. They are incredibly popular in SK. He. Is 27 and she is 24 years old.
My favourite musical siblings! (Love that you said you get the impression he's usually holding something- he's often on a the guitar as he writes and composes their music! She punched him during Dinosaur because that high vocal run in so hard and she blames him for writing it lol)
AKMU stands for Akdong (meaning ‘Mischievous child’ or ‘Naughty/ Bad kid’) Musician. Pronounced Ak-Myu, but Ak-Moo is also acceptable.
The brother- Chan-hyuk, is 3yrs older than the sister, Su-hyun. Currently age 27 & 24.
They went on a survival show when they were 12 & 15 yrs old, won and then debuted a little over a year later with YG Entertainment.
Chanhyuk primarily writes, composes and produces all their songs and he has mentioned that he tends to write specifically for his sister’s voice. He’s a music prodigy; they both are 🤩
He is also a published best-selling novelist and he served in the Marines and ended up composing the official military song for the Korean Marine Corps while he was there 😂
Suhyun has the voice of an angel and her vocal chords are the perfect instrument 😍 I could listen to her sing the dictionary, which is funny bc they have this lil party trick they can do where if you open up a random page in a book and hand it to them, they will make a song out the contents of the page on the spot and it’s gon be a banger too 😭 They’ve done it on variety shows before and it is super impressive.
That neck slicing motion she made was for a line that says “This is a final warning”
My favourite thing about these two is how well they listen to each other while singing which helps them to perfectly flip their harmonies back and forth when they perform 🤩
She punched him in the arm bc when he first wrote ‘Dinosaur’, he promised her that she would never have to sing it live as it’s a really hard song to sing. But he’s been making them perform it live for years now 💀
Their songwriting is great! They tell the most interesting stories and even when it’s a love song, they are able to give a narrators perspective or an interesting spin on the whole thing. For example, their newest single Love-Lee is a Love song inspired by the affection they’ve felt, received and shared with their family (the Lee family) and when performing it at an award show last week, they gave shout outs to other idols named ‘Lee’ in the audience, implying that they are from the same fami-lee 😄
Their first song in this Killing Voice was purely about ramen 😂 and the 5th one is called “How People Move” and is from the pov of two toys in a toy box observing how humans move and wanting to learn to dance like them lol.
The song the girl did as an encore is called “Fry’s Dream” and is from the pov of a fried egg 😂 clearly the creativity is overflowing and they love to play around.
Chanhyuk plays several instruments including guitar and piano. And Suhyun plays the harmonica which she learned while working on the composition for one of my fave tracks of theirs called ‘Farewell’.
Their MVs are well worth checking out for the storytelling alone and ‘Dinosaur’ is def one of their best!

My favorite bit about Dinosaur (when she punches him) is that when Chanhyuk (brother) wrote the song the plan was that they wouldn't perform it live, but it turned out to be one of their most popular songs (with good reason) so Suhyun (sister) has to sing that part way more often than they meant to
AKMU are huge in Korea!!! not very much so globally but real music lovers appreciate them definitely. i was their fan from day1. the brother is 2 years older and he WROTE PRODUCED ALL THEIR SONGS!!!! i adore them so much. so talented so underrated
AKMU actually stands for Akdong Musician which means sibling musicians. They started on a show called K-pop Star in 2012 (they competed with bitty baby Bang Yedam) when they were about 14 and 17 respectivley. They're excellent and I love them
Akdong doesn't mean sibling, it means something along the lines of mischievous child(ren).

AKMU (pronounced like ack-moo -- like back without the b and moo like a cow), which is short for Akdong -- meaning siblings -- Musician are a brother/sister duo that write and compose all their own music. The older brother, Lee Chanhyuk, is the songwriter and composer, who you will often see and hear play the guitar in their songs, and his sister, Lee Suhyun, is the one who is the main vocal. All their songs are inspired by real life experiences and are almost all 100% created by them. That's why, if you get to know AKMU, you will discover their sound and style really is unique because they are different than the typical Kpop artists. (I kind of think of their music style as folk-pop.)
AKMU got their start on season 2 of the Korean singing competition program Kpop Star, which is a little like American Idol for kids who want to become Kpop trainees. The founder of YG Entertainment, the founder of JYP Entertainment and highly respected solo artist BoA from SM Entertainment were the judges on the show. Even as teenagers AKMU impressed everyone with their original songs and remix Kpop covers, eventually winning on Kpop Star and signing with YG Entertainment. Suhyun was only about 14 and Chanhyuk was 16 at the time. They debuted in 2014, so they have been in the industry for about 10 years now and they are still only in their mid-20s.
Now as famous singer/songwriters, they are supporting their family. After growing up poor, they no longer have to worry about money. Not only are they making money as Kpop idols, but as the one that writes almost all their songs, Chanhyuk also makes money from their song royalties. Plus, he writes and composes songs for other artists.
If you like Suhyun's voice, if you haven't yet, you should check out some of her live performances on the Korean reality show Sea of Hope and another Korean TV program called Begin Again.
Sea of Hope, which aired in 2021, was a show -- that also includes Onew from SHINee and several other well-known Kpop artists, actors and comedians -- that teamed up to run an outdoor beach bar. And because the cast of the show are all outstanding singers, they do live acoustic performances of songs for the entertainment at the bar.
The TV show that Suhyun participated in for 3 years prior to Sea of Hope was Begin Again, which featured singer/songwriter Kpop artists who teamed up to form a group and they spent several weeks busking all over Europe. In Begin Again, not only does the group sing the songs live, but several of the members are also musicians, so they perform the music live as well.
In Begin Again you will see Suhyun perform with Henry -- who is considered a music genius that can play almost any instrument, and is known for his songwriting/composing and producing skills -- from SM's legendary group Super Junior, and several other famous Kpop solo musicians and singers as members of a group called The Family Band. This group was so popular that The Family Band actually did 2 seasons of the show. And the best part is, they busked on the streets all across Ireland, England, Switzerland, Portugal and Hungary, etc., so the people they performed for don't speak Korean, but they always fall in love with The Family Band's performances. And Suhyun and Henry also participated in a third season when they traveled around Korea to perform with some of their Family Band members, as well as other well-known Kpop musicians and artists. This show showcases real life busking performances with some of the best musicians and singers in the Kpop industry.
Not ack-moo, not ack without b, more like Ahk-moo, just like how they pronounce in the killing voice. To be honest just learn some basic hangul and you will know how to pronounce.

i would recommend doing Give Love and 200% together (or consecutively) as the two videos are part of the same story/characters. there is also AKMU - Musical Short Film which is kind of a highlight medley of their album Winter, which also shows their personalities and humour.
So happy to see this posted!! AKMU are, as you knew, a sibling duo and Chanhyuk (the brother) actually does most of the writing and producing of their music from debut 2013/2014 to now! Unfortunately they're not as famous internationally but their discography is phenomenal. I will probably be more annoying about this on the discord but I have many information about akmu that i'd be more than happy to share!

The older brother is actually well-known for his odd performance antics (being too fidgety / dancey, over-immersing himself with the songs). It's the younger sister who gotta have him in check, she's slightly more serious than him in that regard.
Life-skill wise, she's more resourceful than him too, the guy's a bit of an airhead.
But he's truly an older brother when it comes to the mentality aspect. He gives her great advice, stays by his sister's side and helps her overcome a major mental slump. The bits and pieces story of their daily life shows how he always gives in to his sister's request, even fully believing her lies 😅 (which ends up in him losing the siblings argument nearly 100% of the time)
i do hope you react to winner's killing voice too. that one has english subs by now because dingo adds them after a year or two. it's my comfort killing voice along with akmu's

YG artists will never fail in live performances. Yes, that's right, AKMU is from YG. Weird as it sounds because their image doesn't match YG but the clue-in that they're from YG is that they have produced or introduced unique instrumentals that have never been used or have been rarely used in Kpop.
The siblings discovered their immense talent when they first appeared at a public audition when they were very young. The older brother, 'Lee Chan-hyuk', writes and produces most of the album music, and the younger sister, 'Lee Su-Hyun', shows off her wonderful vocals with an attractive voice.

The actual duo name of those siblings is akdong musician. And fans just call them akmu.
They officially changed their name to AKMU in 2019, to represent their growth into adulthood and allow themselves to explore more genres - becoming true artists.
Their previous name, Akdong Musician = Mischievous Kid Musicians, put a limit on their growth as artists (since people associate them with being 'kids').
Since AKMU was already frequently used as the shortened version of the name since their debut in 2014, they switched to it and managed to have a smooth career transition into adulthood without losing their brand identity as Akdong Musician.
I don't really get the Red Velvet thing, no one there sings like Suhyun.

It's not really a problem. AKMU and Red Velvet is a close friend, they often hangout together and watching each other concert. Suhyun and Yeri Red Velvet is a best friend, she used to slept over at Suhyun's house. Yeri gave Chanhyuk a novel when he was in military. They are bestie 😂
