- With the influx of digital card games gaining popularity over the years, it’s unsurprising to see a new one pop up here and there. With that said, seeing Pokemon releasing a new digital card game with Pokemon TCG Pocket has had some fans confused - including myself. With the existence of Pokemon Trading Card Game Live, the crossover is quite apparent, but the team at The Pokemon Company and Creatures have a different goal in mind for this new game. From what I’ve seen so far, Pocket is less about the competitive meta of the physical Pokemon trading card game and more about the collecting aspect of the beautiful cards fans know and love - and that’s not such a bad thing. Anything digital is not a "collection." It's like pretend money, you don't actually have money. Digital collections, you don't actually have anything.

Bro why can’t they make a card game where if you buy a card pack at the store they have a code where you also get the digital version and you can use it on both digital and on table top….. the greed is insane
the actual reason is because people will post the codes online and you can get them that way, that's what happened with YGO games over the years

Your point is valid...but there are folks like myself who don't want a big, physical collection, but would enjoy the collectathon aspects from something like this. I'm also interested in how some of the changes in the gameplay will affect it

No they didn't sue it for this game. They sued it due to what they are. They haven't even won yet, so how is it funding the trailer that released a month ago?
The intro at the start about being more about collecting instead of competing is a very bizarre way to describe "a focus on monetization".
Admittedly a free pack a day, assuming it works as described in this video, is a very nice bonus. I'll give it a shot on that alone. MTG Arena is a miserable hellscape of pointless gambling

They should be NFTs but unfortunately it's just a database
If they really want to make opening packs immersive they should give the packaging real world physics and you have the ability to ruin your cards by slicing wrong or bending them from the package resisting.
Unless these come as redeemable nfts for special limited cards or come with a digital marketplace backed by crypto this is completely a pointless crash grab.

Yes, but it seems what it seems like what they're trying to do is get away from physical cards and go all digital. Not only does this make you not actually own anything but it puts more money in their pocket by cutting out production costs

Cardboard TCGs are literally IRL Gacha Card games. And this digital version gives you 2 free boosters a day, or 30 boosters for $10 with the monthly pass. You could literally get 2 IRL Pokemon TCG boosters for $10, or literally 90 of these digital boosters and play a slightly faster, re-balanced game.
