If spell casters ever learned to be civil, there would be far more of them around, better trained, magic retained and far more of them. You would think those who have great control over magic would have great control over themselves. If they just played cards or chess matches for who gets the title would prevent so much blood spilling.....
I just love the thought of scooping up a bunch of beholders and sicking them on people that annoy you. Quite a good way to get people to leave you alone
We run a AD&D game set in FR around late DR1370 and as our small party meanders through Waterdeep->CandleKeep, Berdusk up through Unicorn Run and then further north to Silverymoon and back to Waterdeep we have encountered the new Magister Talatha. Our story is mostly narrative in nature due to how separated we are and busy our lives can be (not mine lol) so we have long played characters whom have some potency but mostly we are glorified curriers of Knowledge for Oghma, and Mystra. So much fun, and I am blessed with amazing friends through the ages.
1:40 "Renounces the office by Feebleminding themselves" Now that's a spell I never even imagined being targeted at the caster (for a spellcaster, it's basically a different kind of su1cide if not countered by a restoration spell). That also got me thinking about situations where doing that could be strategically advantageous (like if you're about to be dominated to cast a spell you don't want to cast). 10:30 A bunch of liches against a bunch of beholders? Horaerays and Szass Tam are a good example of what happens when two DMs have a feud against each other ⚔
I always wondered if there would ever be someone who could tell Szass Tam to sit the hell down. Hey Ed. Is this a novel or short story? The Magister and Tam having their little row? If so where can it be found? Thanks for the great stories.
Nice! I fondly remember the painting featured un the thumbnail from being part of at least one book, or maybe "book," since some of the 2nd Edition Monster Compendiums or what not, were comprised of loose pages that you needed to out in a binder, on your own. I won't deny that I always thought that it kind of sucked! But maybe I was in the minority on that! I still bought and enjoyed them, none the less! 😊
@edgreenwoodofficial Lore Question: If the gods in Faerun each have one or more divine Domains at Ao's discretion over which they hold sway, how does that interact with other gods/pantheons in different regions (such as Kara-Tur) that have their own gods with their own Domains? Are they the same gods under different names to accommodate worshipers with different world views, or are the divine Domains 'geo-fenced' by the locations of mortal worshipers' collective beliefs?
do magisters have any interactions with halaster or with larloch, since the lore states that both of those beings help magic grow? and what happened to the magister that was in the 1st elminster book? the one that was captured by those wizards?
GUNSLINGER? I gotta listen to this. Also I thought they did away with having to kill Magisters even back in 3E? Least that's what it said in "Magic of Faerun" Guess I gotta watch and find out
Please reference a novel when you discuss these topics. 12 liches being sent by Tza Tam!?? any novel with that lich or in that is excellent. what is the name of the novel?
Well so much for the idea that Wizards are quite studious sorts that don't do the equivelent of running at a guy to nick his stuff while yelling "ARGABLAGH!" Also note to self. All self respecting wizards should have some crazy or hilarious thing set up specifically for getting back at whoever kills them.
Very fascinating! I’ve been diving into Forgotten Realms’ lore for a while now and hadn’t come across the title of Magister. I’m interested in how that title compares to Chosen. From some of the reading I started it sounded like the Magister is slightly elevated above the Chosen which is cool to think about. 🪄 🔮
He manifested sometimes through Asmodeus as shown in the last 1 or 2 Brimestone Angel's novels. He might have manifested shortly to do work before Asmodeus retood control.
@@VengefulJarl The entire Brimstone series was amazing. I miss the monthly Novel releases of the past. It seems like WotC is leaving cash on the table.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 Me too. The frequent novels, lore in Dragon magazine and other things really made the Realms seem alive and as if it was actually out there growing and changing, folk running around with their own agendas. Nowadays theres a huge disconnect as 5e is so vague or lacking in lore. Only this channel scratches that itch for me and keeps me hopeful.

So he's not a LITERAL Gunslinger cause I heard no mention of firearms. He's more aptly a "Spellslinger" is he not?

Two Ed Greenwood videos in 24 hours? 🎉🎉

"It is a gift, a gift from our enemies."
It's Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, be thankful. 😊
I mean I we went through way more would be magisters in a few hours one time. Seems fitting.
Ao has blessed us.

The fact we get access to the OG is beyond cool.

Huzzah! I am running a campaign in your Realms and this is all gold! Always a treat to see more from the man himself!
Why was a Christmas song playing in the background lmao? Comfort and joy
COMFORT AND JOY!
Because Elminister is the historical bases for Santa Clause. Duh.

I love your stories. Can we get a book about Gromph coming up in the ranks to become Tog G?
Thanks for the explanation as always!

I don't know why, but I like the cut of this mage's jib.
I remember reading the FR novels and found out that Azuth was dead during the start of the Spellplague. His godhood stolen by Asmodeus
Git extracted at the spell plague end, though

You should do a series on the forgotten realms pantheon

How did Elminster lose his title as Magister before the Spellplague? 🥺
The real mystery of magic is why the introduction of changes to the game system seem to require that Mystra is killed. Again...
Why doesn't Elminster turn to the Dark Side? all that power and now he is THE Weave Master.
Confused, thought Azuth had fallen during the Spellplague
Eaten by Asmodeus, but removed from Asmodeus (along with Asmodeus' godhood) at the end of the spellplague
Brimstone Angels Trilogy answers your question if you like reading novels

@razzelmire2008 same. I thought they were gonna a mention the paladin oath from Oerth for a min. Maybe they meant spellslinger? Idk.
Ha ha ha. Want to bet on that?
Priests of Gond had them for a while.
You can always Portal to Greyhawk; the prohibition against black powder levied against the Realms by Gond holds no sway there
Rigged up for a battle eh? Bracers of Defense of the Blinding Strike? Amway awesome to see your videos
