  • This was my first session with my brother to teach him how to play Noita. I know the audio is not the best as I don't have the best setup for multiple people but I still wanted to post this video in case it would be useful to some new Noita players out there.

    I think the starting cut scene is a reference to the Finnish mythology of how the world was created in Kalevala (the national Epic of Finland on which Tolkien based a lot of his writings too, apparently he was a big fan of Kalevala). The story goes that sotka (a kind of bird, don't know it in English) made a nest and layed 6 eggs of gold and one egg of iron on Ilmatar's (a mythical and beautiful female being) leg and when Ilmatar moved, those eggs dropped and broke into the ocean forming the ground, the sky, the stars and the sun. I'm not sure but that's what I think the cut scene is referencing as a Finn.

      Well explained! Tähän se intro minustakin viittaa :)
      Nolla did their own awesome interpretation of that Fenno-Ugric myth and others, and it even forms part of the game's alchemical system, which is really appealing to me ✨️
      Interestingly, there's also an ancient set of Finnish spells (loitsut) that are called "Voiteen sanat"; something like Words of Balm or of Soothing. A star falls from the heavens and is eaten by a mallard (sorsa) and transmuted into eggs, which it lays and brings "voiteet" into the world (ointments, salves, natural medicines; but metaphorically also salvation). There's a lot of overlap and reinterpretation in oral traditions. Kiehtovaa, joka tapauksessa :)
      Gonna play some more Noita right now! Happy springtime from Espoo ❤

    Sup bro! Its really a treat to see someone's first time.
    Ive beat the game once, just the normal way. I've tried so hard to do everything but I NEVER get good wands.
    I've even done the eye laser to get the mini gun trick a few times, but then something stupid happens like the wurms make the god angry, and even with the mini gun, Steve still f*cks me up! and thats because I can never get a good spell to use! lol
    If I do get something like the green lazer, I never get a wand that can ever use it well, so even if I sit there and slowly dig out of the holy mountain, I never get anything good and have to like force my way down, but then I dont have the money to get the good wands lol.

    • @jameseddleman6944
      @jameseddleman6944 5 місяців тому +1

      @@supermagma thats the thing, I know what to look for, but I get the worse wands, but good perks. I'll even get 2-3 Add Mana in all my games but the wands will be so slow and I never get speed ups or chainsaws. I actually have to use the Light modifier on a green laser just to speed it up.
      I'll go into the fungal biome for the extra good good, but the wands end up being trash every single time lol.
      I'm convinced that at this point, the game is just generating what I pick up all the time, and since I don't have that many wands that are good, I get crap all the time. So I try to go to the really dangerous places to get the better wands, even on the far right side of the map... but my wand is so terrible I die.

    As far as Steam Deck goes, Noita was one of the main games I wondered about playability. I eventually figured out you can set up the game as gamepad + mouse trackpad and use trackpad aiming to basically have accuracy of a mouse. I wouldn't use the trackpad for aiming in an FPS, but it works just fine in a 2D setting like Noita.

    Noita controls great on steam deck, the default setting is horrible but if you swap to mouse region mode for the right trackpad to use for aiming and setup the buttons as keyboard keys, it's a much more fluid control scheme. You can actually use the left trackpad as your hotkeys for your inventory, too. It takes some adjustment, but it's much better than trying to use the controller layout.

    • @joegibes
      @joegibes 5 місяців тому +1

      Enemies will pick up wands and shoot you!
      If you stick a wand in a ceiling, it's way less likely that someone will pick it up and ruin your day.
      You don't need to do it for every wand - but definitely good practice for strong wands.
      Plus it leaves the holy mountain a bit less cluttered once you're further in a run and swapping out more wands and spells.
