Hey, thanks so much - I appreciate it. It's a nice droid. Lots of good detail and the accessories are a nice bonus. Thanks for the sub and thank you for watching!
I was a little lad when I saw Star Wars at the cinema. I felt sad for R5 when his motivator blew. I'm glad they made a new figure for him. Even though he barely had any screen time I liked his colour scheme and different dome shape. I didn't know the middle leg rotated. Thanks for that Matt.👍
Same here - I'm glad they re-sized him. Very cool design. I had read that R5 "sacrificed" himself so R2 could go with 3P0 so he could complete his "mission." I think that's neat. And yeah, the rotating middle leg is a nice touch. I appreciate you watching as always, Jonathan!
You're quite welcome. It's a cool droid - and I'm so glad they fixed the scale on R2 and R5. They look so good on the shelf and it's nice to have some accessories to mess around with. Happy hunting! Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Tom. I've seen a lot of pictures of people finding this whole wave at Walmart. I have yet to see any at my local stores. I grabbed this one off of Amazon - I think it's still in stock. Great droid... Thanks for watching!
It definately helps a lot. I didn't pick up on that on R2, but on R5, I got a little curious and found that the head can slide off. I appreciate you checking out the review, Arthur!
@@Matt_Bryantmy Artoo it is super hard to get all the attachments in his head and to stay there and then when you slide it open 2 or 3 of them go flying all over the place so I don’t even keep them in there anymore…..no biggie personally I wish he came with his drink tray from the sail barge and Luke’s light saber hilt and a spot to put it in
R5 never had the screen time that R2 did, but isn’t it funny how we all love this little red droid? Can’t wait to get this figure, he looks pretty great. Nice review, as always 👍
True, he was on screen in ANH for just a bit. But you're right, everyone loved him. Not sure if it's the design, the colors... Who knows? I'm just happy to finally have him in the collection. Great figure! Hope you can get one soon. I appreciate you watching, PMD!
Got mine today and no circular Saw was in it 😞 the Circular Saw is awesome looking! I wish there was a way to order it or is there another figure that comes with it?
It's an error with Hasbro's promo images. It would be a cool accessory. Sadly, there isn't another figure (that I know of) that has anything like it. 😕
Solid droid and huge upgrade to the previous. I love the diversity of astromechs. As you said I think the scale is perfect. People saying he is oversized etc. seemingly don’t realize how "big" astromechs actually are in universe. Comparing it with shots from the show and you having him next to Din; the size was perfect ! I must say tho I don’t like the price policy of Hasbro, having this at the same point as normal figs. But nothing we could do about it. Else them putting that sawblade in the promo pics was pretty weird aswell 😂
Yeah, this one is great. And I agree, the different types/colors are just cool. I've also said on a few occassions that astromechs are bigger than you think. I think the scale is very good in relation to 3P0 as well as other characters. The price hurts a little... Just like Jawas for instance - they're smaller, so they should be a little cheaper. But, nope... Thanks so much for watching!
After getting hooked on grown-up lightsabers this year, I found my long subdued Star Wars fandom rekindled, getting from a flickering ember to a warm candle flame. As it grew, I started reliving some of my older feelings, watching clips (Vader was WAY more casual with how he said "I find your lack of faith disturbing." than I remembered, much scarier that way) And that led me to am upwelling of feelings for... R5-D4. Even as a child, watching SW in the theaters, I'd always kinda felt R5 had gotten a raw deal, for a time feeling like he'd been sabotaged by R2 (a sound just before the blown motivator being my smoking gun). Now, I know they've now totally retconned R5 (and I hate the coward addition just for cheap laughs) to make his motivator a heroic sacrifice for R2's mission...well, whatever. However, all this led to my NEED to have a decent R5 figure for my bench at work. Lucky for me, this need came after the release of this fig, which is undoubtedly the best R5 fig ever made. Of course, it's just not QUITE enough, so I'm in process on my full accuracy conversion of a Droid Depot bot. Eventually, I'll take him beyond the appearance upgrades, and do major internal overhaul, as my love of this terrific droid shows no sign of diminishing...
It's definitely an outstanding droid. I'm sure while on the Sandcrawler, R2 and R5 had a conversation. I'm sure your plans for R5 will turn out great. I appreciate you checking out the review!
Kenner R5 was a young Shakes top 3 figure. Maybe top 2. OK… top 1. I think. I’m kinda glad these new droids done have the functional wheels. As cool as those are, it’s too easy for them to get away from me when adjusting the neighboring shelf contents.
It's a cool design and the red and blue look so good. Yeah, the wheels are neat - but I don't see myself rolling him around. Ha! - and can totally see him rolling right off the shelf! Thanks for checking out the video, Shakes!
Good review, interesting point about the head! I'm holding out for the pipelined multi-pack with R5 and the pit droids. Hopefully they don't "dirty him up" too much and make me regret it.
Hey, thanks. Yeah, popping the head off does help I think. I am also looking forward to the one with the Pit Droids. As far as weathering - even though he kinda needs some, I will be surprised if Hasbro does it. I hope I'm wrong. We shall see... I appreciate you checking out the video!
It's a pair of pickups (forceps). I just opened them up a little wider and grabbed the leg. Getting the leg out is harder than it needs to be... I appreciate you watching!
@@Matt_Bryant Thanks! I ended up dinging the leg a little when pulling it out but since it's white it's not really noticeable. Any time I make a mistake on a figure I call it battle damage. :)
Haha yeah, the new astromech body is great. It's a good size and the 'accessories' are pretty cool. You should grab 'em - you'll be happy. Thanks for watching! :)
I just got mine in the mail awesome droid (no buzz saw) only nit pick is he is gleaming white a little weathering would of been great but I can do that myself no biggie
Nice! He does look very good. And yes, a wash would really add a lot to this figure. Glad you snagged one. I appreciate you checking out the review, George! 👊
Yeah, it's definately an error in the promo shots. Having one with R2 would have been nice. Especially for the 40th of Jedi release since (like you mentioned) he did use it in Jedi. Oh well... It's no big deal - I'm still happy with both R2 and R5. Thanks for checking out the review, Jrex!
I find the scale is still a bit off and is now too high, same as R2. R2 should be top of C3PO's wires but he is a little bit higher. A lot better than the original. He does not come with the saw blade. I have them with Chopper to make a good trio. I would like Hasbro to do a new BB-8 on his own as I think the one with Rey is also too small. The aerial on BB-8 should be up to R2's shoulders. They seem to ignore the sequel trilogy now.
I fine with the scale. I'd take a little big over absurdly small any day. And yes, The Black Series BB-8 is small. I have the model kit BB-8 and it's much better. We shall see... Thank you so much for checking out the review, Nicholas!
Not sure I'd call them 'dark grey'... Yes, they could be a little lighter, but in the show they are reflecting light (and obviously made of or made to look like metal) - plastic isn't going to do that. If you look at the screenshot I put up - it's not too far off. I definately don't think it 'soils the overall look.' But, if it's bugging you, you could always paint them silver - it wouldn't be too difficult. :) I appreciate you watching!
Yeah, it's definitely a case of Hasbro's promo images being inaccurate. It's okay... I still love the figure (droid). I appreciate you checking out the video! 👊
Great review, subbed nice channel. Buying this now for all the details.

It's nice to see R5-D4 in the Mandalorian he's one of the most memorable character in the original trilogy movie
No doubt. I've always liked this droid design. The color scheme is nice as well. Cool astromech! Thanks a bunch for watching!
Thanks for the review Matt, I was on the fence about getting R5-D4 but now I am on the hunt for one!

Great review, Matt. I really want one of these. So far, he's eluded me. I hear that Walmart regularly gets him as of late.
Thank you, Tom. I've seen a lot of pictures of people finding this whole wave at Walmart. I have yet to see any at my local stores. I grabbed this one off of Amazon - I think it's still in stock. Great droid... Thanks for watching!
Being able to remove the head will definitely help put those pieces in. Didn’t notice that before.

Is there a r4 series black series figures too, the r4 astromech has the cone head in case you didn't know.
Yeah, there's R4-6D0 from The Mandalorian. I did a review on that one a while back. It looks good. Thanks for watching!

What tool are you using? It took me forever to get the "leg" out!
