I knew this song from Chinese tiktok, Douyin. When I searched up the lyrics, the line, "Never let anyone change who you are" struck my heart. When I was little, my mom was the type of traditional Asian parent who prioritized my grades first and got my sister and I a lot of afterschool lessons. It was like a mission to complete the homework for what we didn't like and our marks were in the 70's range. I tried to retort and tell my mom it was quite useless, but because my sis and I took them together, she wanted both our ideas into count. This resulted in my sister's ideas to be too limited and it was as if she was used to being chained. It bumped up after a year of less afterschool lessons and we both were happier. My sis finally had her own idea for things and said "No" to certain things my mom wanted us to do. I definitely cried hearing the Taiwanese band Mayday cover this song. The chorus was like an explosion of the feelings locked in long enough. There's also a story to this song; it's called the Yeh Yung Chih incident. I felt sad for him, too. This song came to be my favourite song and I also confirmed my bisexuality after listening it for several days. Be who you truly want to be, and don't let anyone change you!
