I have an X GSR, the AYC is unspeakably awesome on twisty snowy roads, Scandinavian flicks are as easy as rolling your wrist. When it conked out, I noticed it, big time.
The Evo 9 has SAYC which allows the car to transfer power between FRONT wheels as well as rear wheels, whereas the previous Evos only had AYC which transfers power only between the rear wheels. Depending on the speed and corner etc, SAYC can shift the power to just one wheel, the Evo 9 can essentially be one wheel drive, lol
Yeah I'll agree about noticing the S-AWC and AYC on a daily basis. I have an Evo X and I have to absolutely RIP IT through a corner to get the S-AWC gauge to even register the weight on the wheels 😂
I was always under the impression that the AYC was removed for emissions reasons. If you look at your fuel tank it has emmisions equipment where the AYC used to be housed. I believe it's a fuel tank pressure release valve and an Evap canister. The non US models dont have them
What i really want, is a video of an usdm evo 8 vs jdm 8 and see hoe much faster they are and like if it actually makes thst much difference, i have an 8 and X and yes the X is substantially more controllable around corners but its also a totally different car all together. So idk 🤷🏻♂️
I beg to differ I think you could tell the difference between AYC and S-AWC especially when you're out in the mountains in the snow you'll be able to tell the difference but if you don't happen to live close to mountains with snow then I know you get to experience rain and then you will definitely feel the difference especially when it just started to rain and it's the most slipperiest with the oil coming out from the pavement and you're taking that tight right corner and you happen to notice that your butt sticks out and then you accelerate and the and then the claws come out from the S-AYC to put you back in line definitely a difference game changer for racing as well as safety.
Haven't seen your videos in a long time. Good to see you stil rocking. AYC got one huge downside even though. The AYC diff is not built for a lot of power beyond 500 hp. In europe a lot of ppl broke their rear diff because of that. All US models have the solid RS rear diff which most people here pay a lot of money to upgrade to.
I think it was a money thing, why would they not get power folding mirrors, s-ayc, automatic climate control, (GTA had satnav option), and acd for the first couple years? Keeping cost low to see if it would flop. With the success of the evo in wrc, being in 2f2f and Gran Turismo. North America drove up the sales the first few years which allowed mitsubishi to implement acd for late model 8's and 9's. Just look at Euro vs US e36 as an example of how US cars get murdered, and how the Euro mustang is a stripped US mustang.
@@willsanders187 yeah, no blind spot info system indicators, no performance packages and fewer wheel choices, no tri bar day light running just some reflectors and no air vents on the hood. Funny thing is they started adding them once they saw there was a market and demand for those things.
Yes you are correct, the evo 4 was the first evo to come with AYC back in 96
Thanks

The power transferring from left to right (AYC) is only on the rear tires.
Yeah that’s how I understand it anyway.
AYC is the engineering of gods!
Haha

That stupid gauge... just asking to cause distracted driving haha

You could be right...
I had heard the same thing that it was for the evap. But that was probably in 06 or 07 after I got my MR. Who knows.
my research in the past. i think from evonet yielded the same, almost sure its an emissions related thing.
This was the reason Mitsubishi gave back in 03. I remember reading it in sport compact car.

Side by side in snow yes. Daily driving to work... not so much
lol at 6:22
Haha I forgot about that

I have kinda heard this. Having owned a 10 though I’m still jealous. 10 handling with CTA9 weight = go cart.
Appreciate he support!

Moneys always a factor ha. Didn’t know mustangs got stripped

weird... they sometimes do that on purpose too. Here look at these new (old) parts we will sell you now ha
Hayne's manual says evo 4. So yea that must be it, meaning AYC is out htere since summer 1996 !!!!!!
ACD didn’t transfer power; ACD just locked or free differential for more or less time
Correct... except this is about the AYC
My AYC light went on yesterday 😂
Reminds me of the donut media evo vid where he's all like, "but you can't see my active yaw control" 😂
So wait does Evo 9 have AYC
No the usdm’s don’t
nah but the 9s and 05 8’s have ACD
Well sence I’m a broke bastard im gonna put 20 dollar each day on saving account and wait till their 25 years old in japan
The jdm ones had AYC and ACD
FWIW my EU spec IX does have ACD/AYC. You can always visually check if an Evo has the AYC fluid reservoir/panel in the side of the trunk.
Something about ayc especially in the evo 4. Its slow, really slow
The previous owner of the my evo remove the ayc and acd.... replace it with cusco rear lsd 😶😶😶....
I've heard that recently the 25yr rule has been overturned and now it just has to pass safety and other inspections. I hope it's true
That would be awesome but I haven’t heard that.
Yeah that’s not true.
boring😒
Lol
