What you said at 18:21 about generational relations in Hungary is so strong! As an American-Hungarian I felt this theme strongly in this book. I definitely saw similarities from my family who grew up in the communist era in Hungary. Great review on a great book!

Wow! It's amazing how literature can do that, sometimes better than a history book.

Great catch! This is actually a nickname. In Hungarian we add this "ka" sound to end of names (depending on the name) to make it sound cuter. You can add it to any name. In the book Emerence refers to her with the nick name for Magda. So the narrator's name is Magda, like the author. Basically this is sort of lost in the English translation because in the Hungarian its like Emerence refers to Magda as a child. If you read the book, you can get why this is significant.
