No. Gamers ruined gaming. Companies aren't forcing people to buy microtransactions. Gamers are throwing money at them and companies follow the market.
Game sales are down 20% compared to a decade ago, microtransactions are up 176%. At some point you have to stop blaming 'greedy companies' and start blaming 'stupid gamers'.
@@spazco8669 I am 50% agree with u, bc u have a lot of specialists, psychologists, psychiatrists who work to get u addicted to micro transactions like u see in social media, in a large portion ppl r manipulated, even without realizing it. Do u know that the most profitable country in micro transactions is India ?
Consumers don’t run the market, demand does
Yes Microsoft has 3 years to gain 70 million subs or their out of gaming and we lose all those games they bought forever. But for some reason destin always give Microsoft a pass they literally created a monetization platform with gamepass almost every game they've made has microtransactions.
@@DestinL where the hell is my comment ?
The trend is "80% is good enough, we'll just patch it later". No, 80% is not good enough; either give players a 20% discount or release a complete product.
you know you will stil buy those 80% , $120 games pre order a year out
@@The_Gent well we HAVE to stop it. We need to stop pre ordering and only buy games with good reviews that are complete
Well he did say "in the long run". So maybe in ten years it will be a complete game...
Ubi doesn’t make games. They make monetization platforms
And woke propaganda machines also
UbiSoft?
Lmao Microsoft made the wokest game ever hypocrites its called tell me why and it's about a post op trans twin. So before you spread your hate give it to Microsoft since it's literally wokest game ever. And spread the monetization hate towards gamepass since every gdam game has microtransactions Microsoft has made on it
@@thefirst48gaming2 and guess what I don't play their bullshit either...I mostly just play ff xiv nowadays
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is better than any Xbox first party game in the last ten years.
Everyone needs to speak with their wallets. Don't pre-order. Don't buy skins. Don't buy micro transactions/DLC.
It used to be that bean-counters (accountants) running the company was a sign of its inevitable downfall. I'm starting to think that those increase-share-value-by-microtransactions executives are the new bean-counters.
I’m 42 and have grown up with the game industry. The last good few years have been shit because of the money men. Gaming used to be for proper gamers and geeks back in the day now it’s gone main stream it’s attracted the money men who have come in and ruined the industry.
yes.. the gen where we could get 3 uncharted and a last of us in 1 genn seems crazzy now..
This can be applied to everything, for example: Greed has ruined America.
Destin said it right. it use to be u make games for the craft now its about money
This is capitalism. Trust me, I don't like this as much as the next person, but it's allowed because capitalism and our government.
Boeing
Remember the Nintendo seal of quality, if all the big hardware names came together and made a seal that only properly tested games get awarded for launch, imagine what quality we could have at release again?
Greed has and always will be there. The problem is private equity firms, who don’t give a damn about a game, studio or a games legacy it all about profit at any cost
There’s an article over 10 years old called Ubisoft Game: The Review and all it does is say things like “in Ubisoft game, your job is to climb to high points to reveal things on map and do those things 50 times to the point you forget what the actual story is about”
The sad fact is, if that formula can last 10 years, it’s an unbeatable formula. Most gamers play from 8 -18 so if it can work that entire time on one generation, it’ll work on the next and so on.
Sonic Frontiers was 🔥. I hope they build off it and make a sequel.
Yeah I thought it was an odd example
@@DestinL I think the example was that it was copying/inspired by Zelda at the time, but games copying other games is another discussion.
Hey it's Gabby. I love her videos. I hate to say it, but I think the gaming industry needs government oversight to a degree.
From a monetization perspective, something like Fort Night or similar EXPECT you to "live within the game world" which makes their monetization acceptable. Games as a Service, Live Service is KILLING gaming slowly, and killing innovation, and originality as well as creativity.
First, thanks for introducing me to another UA-camr (she seems pretty funny). Also, on the case of Bungie (and Petey Parsons), although microtransactions were a part of management's greed factor, the fact that they started to produce new IPs instead of fine-tuning their current money-making product, Destiny 2, added to the negative spending and other poor management decisions which brought Bungie down to the sad state it is in now.
damn she missed the game pass...
So you're saying that having a bunch of entitled, uninspired, uncreative, greedy, suits that have never played a game, being in charge of a game studio is a problem in the industry? No way...never saw that coming... corporate is the Cancer that's killing creativity in games
I have mix feelings about that. I would say it’s half true. Publishers are, some studios are still struggling for their creative vision and succeeding and while are blatantly greeting in their monetization schemes. Many senior of the industry are turning to indie as a way to cater to their old love for gaming and innovation.
12:50 Love Destin for it, man. He is the only gaming journalist who doesn't shit talk CDPR after the cyberpunk launch. It's the only blemish on their record.
Gabi Belle is such a good content creator! Looking forward to this reaction
ahhh excellent. was looking for something to watch. ya da man Destin.
Shareholders ruined gaming
The problem is when all the devs went public to the market. Once you go public to the stock market, you don’t care about the product anymore, you care about how much money you can make for you board and shareholders while increasing the stock price.
Developers who are funded by publicly traded publishers should require some form of unionization. When there is a Board with shareholders deciding the fate of these studios and games, the developers need representation.
One of our local supermarkets is already throwing out Skull & Bones at about 60% off. Even at that price they don’t seem to be flying off the shelves!
The odd thing is though, knowing Ubisoft, they’ll probably fix the game in about 2 years and it will be rated a classic 😂
Remember Anthem?
Avatar that came out last December not even a year ago gold edition is 50% off. So at worst be Christmas next year I’ll be able to grab ac shadows and Star Wars and hopefully by then the season pass dlc would be out so I’d able to play the whole story.
This kinda reminds me of what Patrick Mahomes said about QBs. QBs that get paid less play better cuz they're trying to prove themselves, but as soon as they start making the hundreds of millions there's no point in trying anymore. Play like trash and still get paid
Companies realized that the customers dont have any self control 😐 all the people complaining on the Internet cant compare to the REAL WORLD people that will buy a product.
Ubisoft have forgotten how to make good, original games. But they have become quite proficient at turning out, as another poster accurately described as monetization platforms ALONG with a well developed skill at creating original art and homogenizing it across as many genre of game they or affiliated studios do under their banner. They have successfully created a branding that when you SEE a game, you can INSTANTLY say THAT is an Ubisoft game!! Good for Ubisoft, bad for the game player, because there is no getting away from Ubisoft and getting just into the game you are playing.
And to follow up the rousing success of 'Skull and Bone', Ubisoft will be releasing the world's first quintuple A game, with 'Stars Wars: Outlaws' 😂
Suits don't belong in gaming!!!
Yo Gabi belle makes really good content and shes incredible! Glad you watched that one!
@ 6:11 that's OG MapleStory the GOAT
Maplescape 2: The Runes
Enjoy the Indie Scene while it lasts, because it too will fall into the Corporate trap of monetization.
The fox game is Tunic and it was my Indy GOTY that year.
Microsoft wont allow other devs to release unfinished on gamepass unless its a early access. But they allow themselves to release unfinished this is kinda why google store got sued you should talk about this fact.
I like this girl she’s smart and she talksgood
Strange how pretty much ALL indie game proponents seem to forget that the vast vast majority of indie games are UTTER DROSS.
When people use ps plus as an example instead of gamepass I don’t take them seriously. It’s like using a retail store as an example and utilizing Journeys rather than Walmart.
If u had playstation and tried ps plus you would see it's the exact shit as gamepass bro... no difference what so ever... in fact in some ways it's better than game pass... I think your comment is ridiculous and your clearly just being a fanboy stuck on one side. If you had both consoles you would definitely see that your picking between paying for multiplayer and a library of poop or paying for multiplayer and library of shit... pick your favorite. Poop or shit. It's all from the same batch of diarrhea
Call it “Destin Reacts” you should react to more videos. Appreciate your thoughts and opinions, AND especially sticking to your takes.
This is why I never wanted my favorite hobby to become popular to the masses. I saw this coming years ago.
Yep me too. Our hobby has been hijacked by the masses and the money men. Pisses me off! Used to get called a geek because of my hobby back in the day now those same people want in. So frustrating
@@Captain-Chats heck many still do call geeks losers and are trying to gatekeep them out.
Wait? Didnt Destin work for IGN?
Yes he did but Woke killed IGN, not greed.
Lower costs by lowering graphics fidelity, emphasize quality initial release and premium expansions and maybe even a full priced final version of the game with current gen visual fidelity and all expansions.
completely disagree on your PC take for Cyberpunnk2077. That game is THE reason why I no longer pre-order. It was riddled with obvious bugs and I experienced one in particular in the prelude mission where for some reason I didn't have a gun in my hands, when the expectation was for me to shoot some drones out a car window. It was NOWHERE near ready for PC and it shouldn't have been released when it was.
Never had one game breaking bug on PS5 on day one of Cyberpunk,
These companies are trying to make these "everything-and-forever" games.
18:04 same insomniac that gave us spider-box and forever slingshot.
Cyberpunk 2077 is not fixed but it did impress me
To make games that are 'done' means rejecting the Agile methodology of software dev. And that's not happening. Devs don't want waterfall any more. And today's AAA games they've made too complex and companies won't invest in comprehensive QA anymore. Its way deeper than games.
thats what happens when the hobby we enjoy becomes too mainstream.
Lmao I was gonna bust on you for saying Rooon, but then SHE did it too!
If I go to the shop to buy a game. I want a full game on a disk or four, which will work from start to end without major flaws. So no I am not a fan of Day 1 patches or download codes instead of a disk. Bring this mentality back.
Nintendo also added some crazy patches on SSBU for buffing and nerfing the character payer list.
Too many developers in the AAA space. Chasing trends and live service dollars. The industry is cannibalizing itself. There needs to be failures, it needs to thin out a bit.
I honestly feel like there should be something in place to protect us consumers from purchasing BS like Skull & Bones and so on. This has gotten ridiculous.
Tinykin was really fun and was available on gamepass for a brief time.
I watch your channel more than I watch IGN's channel. Much more.
Destin complaining about being demonetized due to music when his video is just him watching a video someone else made…
That's why I haven't payed for a game in ten years
Most of these companies don't deserve my hard earned money
Cut taxes to the rich they said. Trickle-down economy they said.
When profit isn't taxed, maximizing it becomes a no-brainer.
Think before you speak little bro. Your logic doesnt flow. Maximizing profit is always a no brainer. Nothing to do with trickle down economics.
@@mr.wilder796 It wasn't the case before the 1980s and the neoliberalist fiscal reforms. Yes profit was incentivized, but not its maximization at all costs.
Think before you speak, big bro.
@@ParadoxalDream Well at least we are brothers. As long as we remember that the future looks bright no matter our disagreements.
"Im destin and THIS is a good take"
Personally speaking as a HUGE Star Wars fan I hope Outlaws doesnt sell well, UBISOFT is the absolute worst and I don't use Twitter/Reddit to form opinions on things as I don't have accounts on either, but the thing that made me completely boycott UBI was their launcher as my last experience with it was with Star Trek Bridge commander in VR and trying to play it with 3 of my friends, it took us and no lie 5 hours to get it to work due to all the launcher issues and then it crashed 10 mins into the mission, we all dropped UBI that day.
With UBI saying Outlaws will only be available through their launcher means I wont be purchasing the game at all sadly.
Ive stopped buying games at release for a while.
U need to wait at least 3 months these days and even then it still has issues.
This girl is literally non cringe chad chad
i like the gen z personality but its a little strange that they all seem to have the same one lol. at least the ones making youtube videos.
A lot of gen. Z people kind of have a hive mind. Sadly, it's very rare that you see other zoomers think differently. It's kind of their own way of bullying. The outsiders by exile
" You don't think the same as me?! You must be a misogynist or fascist or x-phobic"
I cant understand why there arent consumer rights regulating video games. Here in the UK we have consumer rights for nearly everything like clothes to toasters. Not too sure if video games are counted and Id be uncertain what the rules are like in other countries where video games are made.
I don't know that they will be fine Destin. Ubi has been bleeding money since Jan 2021. Their stock at the time was $20.78 USD. Now? They have lost over 85% in value with their stock price closing at $3.71 USD. I don't believe they make back any of the money they spend on the games they've made over the years and I honestly think they are screwed. They didn't reveal their AC: Shadows or SW: Outlaws preorder numbers during their last earnings call and that can only mean one thing: they aren't doing well. Skull & Bones, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, AC: Mirage all haven't done very well either. Ubi is in trouble.
I could get into a whole long argument why that BG3 rant video had a alot of backlash from devs
In short, today's Devs don't like being told they ain't on the same level as the past dev team
Old dev team had less tools & less problems devs face today, but it doesn't mean they didn't go the extra mile to be extra creative and........I don't want to get into this I said lol
Today's dev community has a clear problem
I’ve always sided with your opinions Destin. For years. You’re awesome
I’ve always sided with your opinions Destin. For years. You’re awesome dude.
I’ve been loving all the videos lately
What about the company he works for IGN, that is buying companies and laying off workers?
@@StarTraffic-z1o Im not going to defend the dude’s employer. It’s none of my business. I’ve always liked Destin. Since the Fireteam chat!
Nah Cyberpunk Ps5 was horrible at launch
not greed, capitalism. It's a systematic problem that needs systematic solutions.
She is 100% right.
TBH Factor is actually good as long as it fits your budget. 😅
so is it the hardware, developers or CEO's that we get unfinished games? please don't say money lol
Didn’t BG3 have 2 years of early access? That’s also not normal.
The fights lost. People like microtransactions
More like. How Sony PlayStation Greed ruined gaming..
Consumers are not as considerate with there money and have been taught by main stream companies thats products can be fixed over time and when people call out that shady business strategy they get attacked by other consumers that have ridiculous brand loyalty, companies have the perfect market this last 7 or more years a subservient consumer base that will defend shit practices and buy next product. You yourself defends cyberpunk then complain later why there not held accountable ITS because people defend them period
i dont think phil spencer cares about making good games or the studios xbox ownes. otherwise they wouldnt have closed tango shortly after releasing a hit game like hifi rush
Everybody hated you when it comes down to that video I think you're wrong you should say most people because I watched that video and I agreed with you
She reminds me of a female version of Datto.
When I think of N 64 I think of my friends coming over and playing conkers bad fur day good times
Greed has ruin gaming sense around 2010... You're a bit late to the party.
Sea of Stars was day 1 on PS Plus
This girl is trying to give off some strange NakeyJakey vibes.
What might be the next step in innovation? It might be something along the lines of voxel based world destructibility (perhaps that actually runs well), and Valve might be the one with the breakthrough if the leaks are true. We should wait and see what they're cooking up.
I miss the days of Nintendo Seal of Quality.
Recently dumped my Xbox and went back to Nintendo. SO glad I did. I am finally enjoying video games again.
Imagine if Games As A Service. GAAS never came about. Imagine if Mobile Games were not Freemium?
Thing is GAAS is not the issue. There are plenty of GAAS a service that people love and are genuinely great. The problem is that those become a vehicle for publicly traded companies to milk money from for their investors.
If a GAAS came out and it's goal was to be a living, breathing world that evolves over time but had no microtransactions, no pay to win tactics, no weird money stuff, people would be totally okay with that.
I just want a fight night and a skate 4
Sea of Stars was day 1 on ps+ extra also not just gamepass
Yo me GOW Ragnarok was meh. Never finished it. Indy games have been way more entertaining.
Cyber Punk had more than just technical issues. They failed to deliver the game they sold most of us on still. It's not a bad game at all but to me it wasn't witcher 3 levels
16:50 well said Destin.
When you say everybody you mean everybody and that's just not true I think games should be complete to not a boogie mess not problems on launch or we're going to patch it after its out no or once in awhile it doesn't even get patches or the game is so broken that they can't even patch it in the first place so yes I did agree with you so you're wrong when you say everybody
Is the game Spirit of the North?
Imo all reaction videos should be demonitized (half of them are copyright lawsuits that somehow don't happen anyway). C'mon Destin, you usually act very professionally, this 'demonitization' rant should be below you.
ok
With a industry promised 2 b a 300 billions dollars, sharks coming around.
I do you 1 better. How the bias game media ruined gaming
Talking about controversy let's be real you really want a game has a little bit of controversy it actually sells better just look at Hogwarts
Okay. I get what she's saying, but imagine if people did the same thing for movie theaters, you don't own any movie that you go watch in a movie theater. But for some reason we're games, people blood, it blows their mind when you say they may not open the game if they buy it a certain way
