Ive been dry brushing like a bloody pilgrim this whole time. Excellent tutorial and ill be picking up this set as soon as i can. Love the S series and cant bring my self to use anything else right now. Really nice flow and with those brushes I feel like I’ve just experienced how painting is really supposed to feel.
@@ArtisOpus I ended up getting the set. I have to say I was dubious about these brushes for ages, I just thought they were over priced makeup brushes. BOY was I wrong. They're everything they're cracked up to be. These brushes are so good I'm seriously considering giving the standard ones a go, and I've been a Rosmary&co user for quite a while now.

3:22 its struff like that. You put it on brush add water etc then test then reapply with just paint... so how does it come off the same? what ahhepns when i do do that is i get two different finishes.
I have tested it, so I know it will, the water helps dilute/reawaken the paint, so with a little you can extend the paint behaving similarly, without just adding more and more paint. Check out some of our recent videos for more info :)

Just a question: after you apply brush to dampening pad, and then texture palette, I notice sometimes you don’t brush it off on the texture palette but sometimes do. Is the main objective just to get it to buff stage (smooth colour but light vs heavy streaky) before applying to miniature surface ?
Not at all, I wouldn't recommend using their paints for this technique either, several people have asked this in the past and it's just not a good medium for it, you'll have a very hard/impossible time. They're amazing through airbrush, though :)
Very nice demo, but how much hair can be reasonably expected to be lost? The longevity of drybrushes tends to be short and seeing all those hairs coming off, doesn't exactly fills me a ton of confidence.
Brushes, especially those associated with physical techniques like dry-brushing tend to lose a higher proportion of the hairs they'll lose over a lifetime in their first few uses (as seen above). Our brushes will paint 3/4-1.5 2000point Games Workshop armies in our experience, if you check out the Kickstarter you'll see some more information on their wearing process, they are extremely resilient.
Keep it to the side that makes sense (right handed: right), and just next to your water-pot, it's just a 1 second process to 'dab' in a top up, make it convenient, don't have stuff in the way. Think race-car, they always put the gear stick close to the wheel :)

Ok even after trying multiple times its not a 1 second process. Mostly because its either too much water or too little so take sme time to get it just right. By the time i;ve done that teh paint has dried. Even following your instructions here i can't get good results. i kinda assumed i'd get better at it but i'm not so either I'm doign it very wrong or something else is not working.
Absolutely brilliant!! If I hadn’t watched the artist in this video, I’d swear the model had been airbrushed. Does Artis Opus offer dry brushing master classes? If we’re ever allowed to gather in groups again, I’d love to sit, learn and practice at the elbow of a master drybrusher, such as this fellow. Keep up the great work, absolutely LOVE your products!
Haa, we were accused of lying about this for that reason in the past when we shared pictures :). We had some amazing plans which got C19'd this year, along with the show calendar... We'll 100% be doing this when it's possible!
Does the dampening pad not get contaminated when you change colour and will that not effect the colour that you’ve changed to? Is there ways to avoid it or is the colour mixing minimal? Thank you!!!!!😅
Hey dude, nope, it's just not something you need to worry about, you can always flip it over mid session if you are concerned. Check out our recent videos from some in depth use, without issue (magic blends is a good example)
I've been really struggling with this system and I'm starting to wonder if it is my PAINTS. I have been using Army Painter Paints which have a very high level of flow improver?? I seem to be getting very thick applications and can't seem to mimic the effect youre getting when applying it to the back of your hand. Instead mine is very much like Overbrushing and when I hit the moisture pad it just seems to speckle out and not be smooth. I've seen you use some very highly pigmented paints like Citadel and Scale 75, is this the part I'm struggling with?? using a low pigment count paint with too much flow improver in their mix????
Good question dude, it could well be down to that, you'll notice a lot of the paints we pick to use are high quality, and highly pigmented, even the Fluos that aren't we 'beef up' with colours that are. I don't think flow improver will help at all. If the paints are very 'wet' (feel like airbrush ready paints) then leaving them for a little while on a texture pallet or similar may allow a little drying/thickening time, this could help, too!

@@ArtisOpus I just finished using Vallejo Game Color ghost grey,black and Sombrer Grey. Wow like night and day compared to army painter paints. I shared in a post ..to artis opus Facebook page if you want to see the side by side of my results. Not perfect but I was able to quickly get a OSL effect coming from the white lights on the bunker door.

Army Painter paints in my experience are bad for dry brushing. They stay "greasy" until they completely dry, meaning that even when you wipe most of the paint off the bristles what remains stays greasy. I've never seen any other brand of hobby paint behave that way.

@@ArynCrinn yeah the ones I have are either white or black goat hair. I'm not sure what the difference is beyond colour tbh though. I have a black one I just got today, but not used it yet.
Quick Question about that the Brush has to be bit wet. Does this also count for Sponge Chipping Technique? Just wondering, cause results also looking kinda dry, chalky most of the time.

Great spot! Must be! If you look closer you will notice that while he is doing movement with his right hand "his" left hand is completely still - quite hard to do if they are attached to the same body.
Owner involved with Siege Studios. I ordered every set and now sorry I did. A month later and still no brushes. Not to mention there’s no tracking on the shipping so you basically get to just pray they actually bothered. I get shipping is slowed, but I get packages from the U.K. constantly and NONE of them have taken a month.
Great video But I have an honest question, not trying to troll or whatever I just checked out the brushes..they definitely look very nice but.. People like sam lenz paint award winning minis with dollar store paintbrushes.. Sell me on why I should spend 80+ dollars on that set of 4 with soap and a pad.
Hey dude, unfurtunately we can't all be Painting-Jesus! With that much talent he could be finger painting and still do something incredible. On the flip side Andy Wardle, Angel Giraldez, Neil Hollis, Caleb, Rich Gray and David Soper are all incredible award winners, and all use our brushes, so there's some milage there. I'd recommend picking up one and giving it a go, the quality and pleasure in use will speak for itself :)

Honest answer, and not meant to be rude, but: You're not Sam Lenz. You're not nearly that good. Until your skill is high enough to offset sub-standard equipment, it's wise to use the best tools you can get. And Angel Giraldez doesn't just "think" he's decent - if you've never heard of him you should have a look. I'm sure Same Lenz thinks highly of him too.

Will the dampening pad work for paints such as tamiya? I believe tamiya acrylics are alcohol based and i cant use water to thin

I'm finding my dampening pad is drying out very quickly, meaning I spend almost as long re-dampening it as using it... Any tips? 😅

Awesome that they make cool stuff for hobby but i feel that some dollar store make up brush would work nicely also if u were on a budget.

In theory, absolutely, the paint is just thicker, and drier :)
Isn't the dampening pad one of those things for sticking stamps?
The dampening pad is for adding moisture to the brush before, during and after the painting process😊

These two paints came out fairly thin, so only a tiny bit in the white, for stippling thinning definitely makes sense though!

What paint are you using? It looks like oil paint or something, not usually used in miniature painting...
