Not only bloody loves their hockey, but the Vancouver @ Edmonton series will actually pit the two remaining Canadian teams still in contention for the Stanley Cup, with one of them featuring the league's current superstar (Connor McDavid) and the other a vary stacked and hungry roster who did a complete 180 this season.
The AEW fans are probably not going to show because they're going to go see Ric Flair's last match at the with the restaurant manager.

This is why a lot of concerts and shows don't book the hockey arena in Canadian cities during the playoff months - in this case too the Edmonton Oilers were playing strong at the end of the season and got close to securing home ice advantage. If they had then the game would be in Edmonton tonight and the AEW show would have been bumped.

As a Canadian I can confirm AEW is gonna be missing a number of fans. For example I worked as security for a boxing event, and people were leaving midway through to catch a Boston Bruins Game.
Edit: also the ones who stayed there was a handful on their phones to keep track of the same game.

As someone who is from Edmonton, YES, a lot of us DO care about hockey. Especially since the oilers haven't been in the playoffs for years. BUT NOT EVERYBODY DOES! I'll be going tonight, at the very least.

The series between Edmonton and Vancouver is going to draw huge numbers, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a really small crowd tonight.
If AEW dub was smart they should announce the hockey score in between matches and commercial breaks to at least let the fans know if their team is winning.

Correction: The building in Edmonton easily holds 16,000 for a wrestling setup. It is nowhere remotely close to sold out.
They say "sold out" in the sense that the seats available for purchase are almost all sold out.
Though granted that the ring has four sides and they only made some of the lower bowl on two sides of the ring available for sale (what would be seen by the hard cam and the entrance way).
And some of the seats are expensive, but there are lots of cheap ones - if somebody paid $300-400 for a ticket to AEW I would think they would go... but if you have a $30-40 ticket and are a hockey fan it might be more interesting to go just go to a bar or watch party with your buddies

It's not a matter of not allowed... it's a matter of unwise.
Even moreso than other Canadian cities - Edmonton is a hockey town. It's where Gretzky played. It's where the best player in the league (and I'm enviously saying this as a Montrealer) plays.
My city and its surrounding area is about 4 million people. It's a big hockey town....... More Stanley Cups than anyone by almost 20 and also the most recent Canadian city with a cup..... But though Edmonton may only have about a million and a half people -- They're almost all hockey fans, and almost all Edmonton Oiler fans. Even as a Montrealer.... I have to admit that being in Edmonton for hockey is a different breed of mania. More than us. More than Toronto.
When dealing with Canadian cities and booking during hockey playoffs, it's just reasonable caution the way NHL playoffs are designed to plan as if the city is in the playoffs.

I think that's why wwe rarely go to Canada for a tv show or a ppv in Canada during the NHL playoffs (they do it before or after the playoffs/Stanley cup)

I don't think Clash at the Castle in scotland is paid for by the tourist board either considering there is no tourist board logo on the graphic/posters the same with Backlash and MITB in London last year. EC in perth, Saudi shows, Clash in Cardiff, and Backlash in Puerto Rico do had clear Logos from their respective government bodies paying for the show
4000 seats sold is no where near capacity for the Rogers Center in Edmonton. It has a capacity of 18,000 for hockey and over 20,000 for concerts and other center stage events

Hockey game was going to go on Tuesday but got switched to Wednesday. Bad timing for AEW, they have a show in Vancouver on the 11th too and hopefully they don't run into similar challenge.

Eight matches on Raw breaking a record is crazy, especially when you have THREE HOURS. TNA use to get eight matches in an hour back in 2006.
To be fair there was a 10 minute time limit on matches.

Its one of those "sold out" in the sense of almost selling out available seats... but not all seats were available.
Like the ring has four sides and they only made seats available on two of the four sides (the entrance way and what'd be shown on the hard cam). They'll likely move people who had seats back a bit to fill the front rows on the two sides they didn't sell.

If somebody paid $300-400 for a ticket I would think they would probably go to the AEW show, but if they paid only $30-50 for a cheap seat and are given the choice of going to a wrestling show or going with a bunch of buddies to a bar or a watch party to see your team play in the second round of the playoffs... I can see a few people opting for the latter.

As a Canadian you are reaching here. First off we have this new technology called cell phones...as well as something called dvr s...we are also frugal. If we bought tickets we will go and while comingin take pics at the watch party to post to show our dedication to both "sports" we love..this is an excuse. You would think the Ric Flair story would lead. Its fact not speculation
Wrestling starts at 4pm (ROH) so Dynamite will be done by the time the hockey game starts. No one will leave early because they won’t beat the watch party as they will be arriving during dynamite and the game goes til 10pm. If anything people may bleed from the early watch party shenanigans and come to Dynamite tapings after seeing everyone there
